It’s possible to purchase a separate GamePad for the Wii U at retailers in Japan. This, however, is not possible in North America. Or, at least not yet. Marc Franklin of Nintendo has said that, “customers that want to buy another controller (or potentially repair a broken unit) will have to contact customer support instead”.

And you might be wondering, “Why?”

A simple explanation is because no games support simultaneous GamePads. It could be confusing to consumers for the extra controller to be available when it serves no clear purpose. This is just speculation though. Nintendo didn’t provide an actual explanation.
