I pre-orderd my wii u at game stop and i'm going to pick it up the first day. but i don't know if they would run out of wii u or if they have one set aside for me if not the i would have to go and wait in line.

Best bet is to ask your store rep or manager. I've seen many different answers to this question. Some say that the store will set one aside for all preorders regardless of the line if potential buyers, but I know my GS rep said that still it's first come first serve.

But what if 200 others thought of the same thing, lined up at midnight, even though there's no midnight opening, and they don't have that many Wii U's, and none of them preordered?

spent a very wet all night queueing for the original wii.All pre orders are usually held in uk/ireland.By 8am there were maybe 60 people waiting to hear the staff say that 4 were available for first come first served

If they didn't hold onto it for you what would be the point in pre ordering, it means you are garunteed one on day one. Usually they hold for 48 hours, after that they might give it to someone else.

Just to be safe, you might want to line up early. That's why I'm getting to my GameStop around 5:30PM, just to secure my Wii U if my store uses a first come first serve rule.

A preorder is a preorder. It means its yours. They will hold them for 48hrs so 2days before selling them to the public and giving you store credit.
So if you have a pre-order wii u then dont worry. They have to take care of you first before they can sell to the other people who didnt preorder.

But i am having a feeling that they will be sold out so only preorder people will be able to get one.

I remember that i went to a midnight once and they said the game was sold out so if you didnt preorder it you could not buy it untill they got another shipment in. I dont remember which game it was but it was a big one.

So yea final word on that is if you preorder one it will be put aside with your name on it.

Game will be opening early in the morning, about six i think, i did ask if they would be doing a midnight opening & they said no because of security issues with lots of people with lots of expensive consoles, they only open on midnight for game launches.

I have already asked at my local Game store & this is what they told me, Game are also the official launch partner in the UK, the best thing to do is to go into the store in the week before & ask them what time they will be opening, i will be going in to work late as i will pick mine up as soon as i can, i might even have the day off work

Nice same here, I live in the south west, Not far from Bankstown/ Hurstville etc.
