In case it wasn’t clear from Satoru Iwata’s description of the Wii U’s account system, Nintendo is doing away with friend codes. Here’s the official word from a spokesperson:
Our plan is to replace Friend Codes with a much more user-friendly Account ID system, which employs user-created account names.
