So I read something recently that seriously altered my decision to buy the 8gb Wii U.

"The Wii U operating system, the account data, etc., will take up 4.2 GB of internal storage space. Each Wii U is preloaded with this data, which means that the 8 GB Wii U version will only have about 3 GB left for save games, downloads, and such. This is because when the 8 GB is formatted, it ends up with 7.2 GB of usable storage. Then 4.2 GB is taken up by the console itself."

This means that the 8gb Wii U won't even be able to have Nintendo Land as a download, so don't buy the 8gb thinking you'll be able to download around 4 games (roughly 2 GB per game?)

"The Wii U Deluxe version will ship with 32 GB of storage. When it’s formatted, it will have about 29 GB. Minus the 4.2 GB of system data, this means that the Deluxe version will have about 25 GB to store games, save games, downloads, and more."

Definitely, definitely, definitely going to get the 32GB now.
Smooth marketing Nintendo, smooth.

Well... it was kinda expected. Everyone here knows that you never get the full extent of a hard drive, and that they have to store the account data somewhere. Although I wasn't expecting it to be 4gb worth. o_o

Did you actually read my post? haha.
It wasn't a question, I stated what you said exactly.

Oh, I am dyslectic, so I read the big letters.. which are the title of the topic.. hahahahahaha

It was well known that u need an hdd, but whats the point of paying 100 euro extra for the 32 gigs? so if you buy the deluxe, the extra 24, will be useless.. except if the OS and updates exceed the 8 gigs (i doubt), so its very much needed. The way it is, it should be 16gigs-120gigs (both packets)

You're not even getting one. Your argument is invalid.

Also, it's pretty obvious that it would be only little storage left. It's basically the Wii U version of the 4GB Xbox and 12GB PS3.

It's there so that it's cheaper, and you can use your own HDD.

I have sold my Wii U, so if I deleted you from NN before I sold it, or haven't accepted your friend request since, this is why.

I am not arguing... as for the 16 and 120.... My idea came from the 360 with 16 gigs of hdd, years ago... I had that packet with the 16 and it was very much needed (Except the extra hdd)... 8 gigs sounds very little.. But if the updates and the OS are ok, for the whole lifespan of wii U, then not a problem though...

Don't excuse him. He had no trouble arguing back with people in his own thread before.

No, I meant 4. The account and other info takes up 4GB worth.

You're just using it as an excuse to read what you want to read, and what you don't want to read.

I sense hostilityyyyy...

Anyways, I've already been planning to purchase the deluxe 32GB Wii U, so this shouldn't be a problem for me. ;x

I have a question though regarding the type of external hard drive you have to use. I read this excerpt from Kotaku...

But there are some sticklers in the details: if it's a plug-in hard drive, you can connect it to the Wii U. If it's a portable hard disk drive that is supposed to be powered by the console, you will need to get a Y-cable to use it

...and I was wondering if this hard drive would still work. I'm not sure I know about the difference between plug and play and the latter.
