Click on General info and then Can I Log Into My Nintendo Network Account on a Different Console?
In other words, don't set up your NN ID, until you know your console isn't bricked.
ID is locked to original console

Hmm, what's the policy on NNID transfer, in the event that your console dies and are willing to purchase a new one to replace it?
