Today, Nintendo of Canada {Not america} gave us info on the Wii Mini.
First of all, its not confirmed for US yet. So it might not come. Just hope that Regginaldinator pulls through for us.
It comes with the RED Wii Motion Plus Built Controller, RED Nunchuck, and your average AC adapter and AV cables.
The Wii Mini will cost $99.99. That is an amazing, low price.

The same reason they made a NES and SNES at the end of their life-cycles just to get the last minute adopters. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer, and sometimes you just want to get something new for your kids who are too young to really appreciate the latest and greatest -- not to mention underprivileged folks.

Also, see PSOne and PS2. And to your point that it's nothing like the PS2, which got over 150 million total systems sold, the Wii is at the brink of hitting 100 million any day now. So let's just say they're more similar than you think.

If you had a 5 year old you could throw this in their play room with a handfull of cheap games to keep them occupied for a long time. Just because it isn't for you doesn't mean there isn't a market.

Dumb and pointless. Good thing it's exclusive to Canada. That way it doesn't confuse the rest of the casual world. Nintendo should of released this like 2 - 3 years ago.

Ive taken many wiis apart. How much smaller can they really get?
And coming in a color like red can limit ots market.
Now black and white are fine, or even if it had other colors @ its release. Pink, red, blue, green etc..

Either way i dont like it. And wouldnt buy it. Got a wii that works so no point in this.

I'd imagine it's cheaper to produce. Similar to the PS2 slim or PSone. They intend to sell Wii consoles well after the Wii U launch. Playstation 2 sold for years after the playstation 3 and Reggie says he hopes to emulate that with the Wii and Wii U. Since this is only in Canada right now it's probably a test run, but I can imagine it coming out in Latin America rather soon as well.

I would say there is a market for it, my son is 4 and he loves playing the wii, if i did not already have an original wii and got him a wii u for christmas I would have bought him this.
