So, my family is considering upgrading our wireless router. The one we have right now is an older 2.4GHz Linksys model that runs at 54 Mbps. This is the model we're currently considering. We live in an average sized home in a rural area with decently thick walls. There's about 3 walls between my wireless router and my bedroom (where my Wii U and other game systems tend to be). Any suggestions?

Really depends on what your looking for in a router. If your looking for the utmost latest and greatest router Linksys would be the way to go. Being as Linksys is Cisco and everyone else just follows their rules.
As far as hardware goes for price the Netgear should get the job done (It can do like 40ft with decent bands). Software wise you will not find it to be as advanced and the parental controls will be way less lack luster on the Netgear. The question is what exactly are you wanting out of the router overall (and not just focusing on Wi-Fi). If you're going for the best wireless protocol though, I personally would suggest skipping N and going with the newer 802.11ac as it is not tied down to 40MHz channels, it doubles it by default and can go up to 160MHz channels. Streaming data and all that goodness will be much more sufficient. Yet as far as devices go, their not all even up to N standards so not like everything would be up to par. (Edit: Dual-band routers would also be a grand idea for compatibility issues).

We don't really care all that much about parental controls or software. All we want is something fast that will give us a good connection throughout the entire house.
