No, the GamePad gets all the content on the touchscreen from the console via streaming. The GamePad can't run games on it's own (without the console in range, or if it's off). I just don't think it's possible.

Maybe, in the future, you could use certain apps away from the console, such as the future ebook app.

i think there was a topic on this before, but what i got out of that was that the wii u has the potential to be mobile as the gamepad uses a modified internet connection to stream the video from console to gamepad screen.
In theroie the wii u could maintain a connection to the console as long as there was a hotspot nearby and the wii u was also connected to the internet.

but will this ever happen?? i doubt it.

Yes, like most things today..anythings possible.
All you need is this.. http://www.m-99.co.u...wer_invert.html
I had one in my work van for playing my PS3..that meant taking a TV aswel..but it was possible. Now the wiiU doesn't require a TV all you need to do is conjure up some carrying case...and it's portable.
Make some cool backpack for the wiiU and the inverter..gamepad in ur hand - hey presto!!

I service security alarms..so carry plenty of batteries that's why I could do this so easily, 2x12v batts or a 24v battery preferred.theyre not that heavy..

If you mean like this ....

http://kotaku.com/5963181/yes-the-wii-u-also-works-on-japanese-bullet-trains

then yes.

If you mean using the Gamepad away from the console then no.

Nintendo could re-locate the main cpu and gpu to the gamepad leaving the optical drive and main socketry in the main box. That way it could become a portable console that has a base station when you bring it home. The wii u componentry is already very low power and in the next couple of years this could be made low enough to be powered by a lithium battery. There is no reason that Nintendo could not do this technicallly.

There was talk that the Nintendo Gamecube might become a portable console due to its tiny optical discs but that never happened as Nintendo would not want to release a console that didn't require users to buy new software. Same is true of wii u they want people to buy new portable handheld systems they bring out not have the wii u competing with those.

So technically possible but commerically unlikely.
