How good is the camera on the controller? Today I was thinking ALOT of stuff for could be on the console and was hopping to create some games. One game idea is like a Just dance but online and using the camera as way to show off your moves(wont go any deeper into that idea cuz its MINE! XP), one flight simulator and using the touchscreen as a way to scroll through weapons and background would be the cockpit view, and last one is a race car game with the touchscreen showing rear view and/or streaming camera images of players. Again, don't steal my ideas! >:D

What do you guys think?
What's a good cheap(or free) way to learn and create games?
And how do you get a dev kit?
I'm Nub Cakes! :D and I approve this signature... Kinda! :D
R.I.P. Nub Cakes! :D

Console dev kits are expensive, only Microsoft offer a cheap alternative and even then you need to pay an annual fee to run the games on the real console. (but can play them on PC for free)

Good topic.

I've been wondering this myself. It really needs to be better than the 3DS camera.

Unlike the 3DS the Wii U will be in a fixed position, you can move your 3DS to a lighter spot or go outside for better quality picture but we might not be able to do this with the Wii U controller and definitely not able to do this while gaming on.

My 3DS can't register the AR card unless I'm standing next to the window, the picture quality is average to terrible if I'm not outside.

Not sure about your other questions, it might be easier to make a game for digital download/eshop etc not sure about a full game title.

I'm guessing that the camera will be at least 2 megapixels, which will be plenty!

This is an aspect of the new controller we have heard almost nothing about yet.

I have no idea how good it might be, but 2MP would be pretty good. Nintendo only showed the video chat using the camera, but nothing else. I am intrigued...

I think the camera should be better than the 3DS's, but I don't think it needs to be more than 1MP. It's a console controller after all, so it's going going to be used to take pictures. I hope it works better in low light conditions than the 3DS camera, as it's going to be used inside 99% of the time.

I like how everyone in this thread thinks that the quality of cameras is directly inherent to the number of megapixels used.

Yeah, i'm going to go with 2MP camera as well. Definitely not anything more than 4 MP.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same MP, as the 3DS. The MP can't be too good or else the console will cost even more because of the better quality camera. So at the very least, I think it should be 1 MP.

My $90 phone has a 2 MP camera. CMOS sensors are quite cheap, so there really isn't much of an excuse to give us a crappy 0.3 MP camera yet again. At the very least, I'd like to see a resolution just over 2 MP, which will not need to be stretched to fill up a 1920x1080 TV (1080p is 2.073 MP). They're already saving heaps of money on the controller by not including any processing hardware whatsoever in it, and I think it's logical to assume that they'll put some of the savings into making the controller's components higher quality.
