Hello. My name is Matt, I'm from Australia and I purchased my Wii U premium pack today with New Super Mario Bros U and Zombiu -
The items are still sitting in the box and I'm anticipating opening them in the next hour or so. :)

I wrote a short review about the Wii U console out of excitement last night and would also like to know if this is a good place to post it?
I look forward to getting to know the people in this community and wish you all the best,

Thanks!

My review below!

In less then 4 hours I'm getting the New Nintendo Wii U and I'm really excited so I have written a short review which will hopefully help people who have perhaps less knowledge about this stuff. Maybe you are just too lazy to spend time to get deep in technical information. But either way here it all is, I hope this will gain more interested and like minded individuals to purchase the Wii U. I need people to talk Nintendo with me :D I would like to mention I am in no way affiliated or have anything to do with Nintendo or any other industry partner that supplies, resells or repairs anything badged by Nintendo. This is simply just my 2 Cents about the fact and information sheet for the Nintendo Wii U

BRAND NEW FEATURES AND USABILITY
So to get started the Nintendo Wii U has introduced a brand new touch screen GamePad controller which can be used as a stand alone "Handheld Console" as long as you have the Wii U Console powered on. So in other words, if somebody wants to watch TV they can simply change the channel while you just use the GamePad controller to view and play the game until they have finished watching TV or for as long as you so desire :D - You are basically getting a DS (Used up to 8 metres away from the console)

The GamePad will also allow internet browsing, video chat, drawing tablet, photo/video viewer and more. Just say for example you are viewing an image/video on the GamePad, you can aim the device towards the console and simply swipe the screen of the GamePad and it will automatically share that content to the console and TV simultaneously. If that's not already cool enough, you can also use the GamePad to act as an attachment/tool for games. For example: If you're playing a dungeon game and you want to view the full map (Not mini map) you can have it always being displayed on the GamePad while the regular game screen is on your TV, so you never have to change screens in game. There are a lot of other cool in game features utilising the GamePad so keep an eye out. You can also play stand alone mini games with friends on the GamePad without using the Console, for example Checkers and Air Hockey (Hopefully) ;)

HARDWARE AND CORE POWER
The Wii U is more powerful then the PS3 and Xbox 360 as it has a far superior High Definition Radeon graphics card which was designed by AMD. It also features 2GB of RAM which is broken up like this: 1GB for games and 1GB for System Functions which is extremely better than the 512MB that is currently in the PS3 and 256MB in the Xbox 360. Unfortunately it has a slightly "lower powered" IBM multi-core processor(CPU, Brain) then the current consoles being the Xbox 360 and PS3. After saying that, the lower spec CPU is however still a better processor because of it's structure and design. Without getting too technical I will say this, even if the Wii U shows slight signs of game lag in HD content situations the extra RAM will compensate for this regardless of chip architecture.

GAMES, MEDIA AND COMPATIBILITY
Finally Nintendo have got some awesome third party support this time. The Wii U will now have games like Assassins Creed, Batman Arkham City, Mass Effect, Tekken and many more! It will also feature brand new Nintendo only games like you could imagine. Games like Pikmin, Super Mario, 007 Legends, Rabbids, Wario.... etc. Sadly it has a proprietary "Blu-ray based" optical drive that will allow 25GB discs but will not play back Blu-ray or DVD discs. Grrrr I'm not sure why but I imagine it has something to do with licensing, pirating and maybe not wanting to pay anybody else any money! Which is a shame because I think if it had a Blu-ray drive it would have been fantastic to get the Nintendo fans, the younger generation and maybe the more conservative people to start using and purchasing Blu-ray media. This would have been better for us BD collectors :(

On a positive note, the Wii U is backwards compatible and will play Wii discs but will lack the ability to play Gamecube discs. HOWEVER! Gamecube, NES, N64, NES games will all be playable and supported via a virtual console and apparently some can already be purchased for between $5 - $15. On to controllers: If you're anything like me you have a lot of wii controllers and chucks around but sadly they are not going to be compatible with Wii U titles unless they have a motion attachment. However you can use them for earlier wii titles and the virtual console titles. (I'm still uncertain about Wavebirds, I hope they work as I have 4 of them)

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
I was going to get it launch day but thought I would wait for the price war between retailers. Luckily you can now get the deluxe Wii U which is the sexy black colour and includes 32GB storage, charging dock + playing stand for the new wii GamePad controller, a console stand, the nintendoland game, plus a few other nintendo website discounts and it is only about $70 over the Wii U standard model which is only 8GB storage and is the common white colour and doesn't have the extra game and bits and pieces mentioned above.

I am glad I waited because now you can get the deluxe model for $379 from a few retailers like Big W and K-mart (JB HIFI WILL PM) This is roughly $30 - $50 cheaper than what it was 3 days ago. I understand these will be in bundles including 2 games plus probably another $50 cheaper for xmas but I simply can't wait anymore. Nintendo runs in my veins. That's right I am a sucker for this and I am admitting it!

SUMMARY AND FINAL NOTES
To end it up I will say this, Is it classed as a next gen console? Well probably not from a hard core gamers view, but from a regular gamer and Nintendo fans it is EXCELLENT and until the PS4 and Xbox 720 come out towards the end of next year this is the superior console in terms of overall power and I dare say originality and playability and it is the the highest spec console available. Plus it is Nintendo :D Please spread the word and I hope this has at least helped 1 person have a more solid opinion about this device. I will let you guys know more in a few hours after I play the crap out of it!

This is a great summary, thanks. Did you also buy the new wii controllers and nunchuks? Are they needed for new games and are they worth buying?
