I know not everyone here has the same opinion as me and other Nintendo fans here. A lot of doom and gloom, Wii U is last gen, price is too high. And that is fine.

However, I want to be clear, the Wii U will sell well. Even if they are second or third this generation, I don't doubt the Wii U will sell 70m+ units in six years. But that is far cry from a failed console - the PS3, being third place, could have donr better but I don't consider the PS3 a failure. It sold well. And the same if the Wii U sells 70m+ units. I personally hope all the consoles do well - especially Sony's because they need to make profit quicker this time - because having three console makers and beyter compition will only make Nintendo better.

My main point, however, is evrn if the Wii U somehow falls flat on it's face and sells horribly, Nintendo won't "go the way of Sega" as some in the past has said/implied. Nintendo not only sold more Wii's then the others but also made a killing in profit. From game sells, royalties and hardware sells - Nintendo is sitting on a wealth of cash. Sega wasn't. The Sega Saturn and Dreamcast both wrre failures. Sega only had cash from the system and game sells, and if the console wasnt selling then they obviously weren't sitting on a big cash load. Nintendo has cash from the 3DS and games - which is successful - and all the cash from the Wii. They will be hurt if the Wii I fails, but it won't end them.

So anyway this was mainly for Nintendo fans. Have a good day!

I agree I have complete confidence in the Wii U and I know it will not fail.

I agree 100% - as a a die hard Sega fanboy I will say Nintendo is no where near the current state of Sega, and in saying they are going the same route is showing you obviously have no idea why they went out of business. Lets take a stroll down memory lane shall we?

Sega's issues started when they decided to lengthen the shelf life of the Sega Genesis by adding the Sega CD and 32x - followed by other revisions such as the JVC X'Eye and the Sega CDX. While I love the Sega CD and it held a lot of potential...it wasn't the right time. The fact they they were far over priced wasn't helping. Moving onto the Sega Saturn - there was a lot of infighting among Sega Japan and Sega America - both divisions developed their own versions of the Saturn unit and it just so happens that the American version was far cheaper, easier to develop for and more powerful. Nintendo Japan being stubborn and not willing to be shown up by Sega American complained until they got their way and this the Sega Saturn was born. In doing so Sega America actually helped Nintendo, because the hardware in their version of the Saturn is what ended up in the N64. This infighting caused many key members to leave the American branch...you need to remember this..or maybe you never knew it...but the Sega Saturn did very well in Japan and failed everywhere else...why? a lot of the key members that left were part of the marketing team and those responsible in getting 3rd party support. This destroyed most Sega cred outside Japan. The Dreamcast was a wonderful attempt to get back into it..but key failures such as lack of a dvd player and ease of piracy marked its end. Believe it or not the only reason the PS2 did so well in Japan was due to being the cheapest dvd player in the country. In fact no game stores carried the unit, you had to go to electronic stores that sold dvd players to find one.

In the end...Nintendo's situation is nothing like this...at all..and never will be. So again..to those calling Nintendo going the way of Sega...you are sorely wrong.

It's amazing how a lot of ideas and innovations that were planned for one system but thrown away get picked up on another system and turn into something great (Super Nintendo CD = Sony Playstaion; American version of the Sega Saturn = N64; wand motion control idea pitched and ditched by both Microsoft and Sony = Wii remote). Well said Tricky, I remember reading that article a while back on the history of Sega oh and I agree Nintendo has and will remain, haters will hate but I'll appreciate because nintendo has been in the console/game buisness the longest out of the other 2 current console makers, this is what they know and got the software 1st party titles to back them up.

Exactly. Nintendo alone can push there system to sell. And I believe we will get strong third party support. Which will only help Nintendo's situation.

It is nuts to show how the industry evolved - in most cases Sega and Nintendo directly lead to Sony entering the market. The ironic thing though was that it wasn't Nintendo that got Sony into the market, it was Sega. After Nintendo canned the SNES CD add-on....When the first Saturn system Sega America produced was shot down - Sega America contacted Sony about jointly building a new system in which they would split all console profits. Sony agree'd to this and worked out all the details. When it came time to bring this to the head honcho of Sega in the Japanese division...they said.."Ehhh....wrong answer hans"....and then..that was the final push for Sony to form the Playstation brand ...which was headed by Bernie Stolar...which ironically enough...ended up with Bernie leaving Sony shortly after and heading up Sega for the creation of the Dreamcast.

And even then it won't be the end. They might go out of home console, but on the mobile market no one had been able to take that cash crop from them.

I can't imagine Nintendo failing at all this generation. The 3DS is selling better than the DS and I'm pretty sure the Wii U will get 70m in sales this gen. I'm more concerned about Sony and if they can survive, not only in the gaming market, but their whole company as well.

It is a little disheartening that we're even talking about this. That does kinda tell you something. I have a Wii U and am enjoying what it offers so far...ZombiU is great and MiiVerse is a nice surprise. But I don't think the general perception from the public is something people really have to have. Makes you wonder since it came out right before Black Friday. They failed with the name...it confused the American public greatly.
