I have got my family a wii u premium with Nintendo for Christmas also zombiu and Mario.
Can someone tell me which controllers are needed to get the most out of these game.
Will I need the remote plus with nunchuk or will the remote be fine on its own?
I don't want to buy remote plus if only Nintendoland uses them.

Many thanks

The back of each games tells you what you need.

But for zombie you only need the gamepad.
Mario you can use up to 4 wiimotes.
On Nintendo land it's a mix of wiimotes and nunchucks but most games use only wiimotes and gamepad tho.

Also I would get the motion plus since some games do need them and in the future more games may use it a lot more

I think all Wii U games require motion plus. Any new controller you buy is going to come with it.

EDIT: Not that they all require the wii remote. but when you do use it I think it has to be a motion plus to be compatible.

Not all Wii U games require a Wii Motion plus, However I highly recommend getting one. Even though not many games use them, I think its worth it. You can always buy them later if your not sure.

I know they all don't require a wii remote, but don't you have to have motion plus if you use the wii remote? Or one with Motion+?

To add to that the local multiplayer in Zombi U requires the Gamepad as well as the pro controller.

They're the same thing. If a game requires Wii Motion Plus, but you have a wii remote without a Motion+ extention, you will need to buy one. If a remote has it built in, then it wouldn't matter either way.
