I just got the wii U and the gamepad does not work. It will start and when I sync the wii system and the gamepad the screen and the gamepad will show the symbols but when I try to input it on the gamepad nothing happens. Did this happen to anyone else or anyone know a fix or is it just defective?
Thanks
GamePad not working

Yup same ssue here on a brand new console. When i try to touch the symbols on the gamepad, i get no response. I cant even select the 'cancel' button on the touch screen.
Pad is not fully charged, but it is plugged in while doing this. Sensor bar plugged in or not, same issue. Touch screen just doesnt respond.
If i jiggle the gamepad it sounds like bits of plastic floating around in there. Maybe someone broke it while it was in the box?? Such a bummer.
Will try taking out the battery if i can locate a small enough tool.
Alright. Got the battery out and put back in. During this time i also had the wii u power unplugged. Still no dice.
First time ive ever had to return a game console...and chirstmas gift.
Exchanged the console at the retailer. Everything works now!
