I can't download the Day-1 Update for my new Wii U because it automatically disconnects from my wireless network while it is checking the servers.
Error Code was 506-4011

Me too. I've always had problems like this before with my router, Nintendo hates my router.
The first thing to do is to keep on trying to update (It worked for me)

If that doesn't work, You may have to manually set up the connection between your Wii U and Router.
To do this, you need to type in your router info manually, Its a pain, I know.
Nintendo doesn't have any info on this yet, But it appears that it is similar to the 3ds, Therefore, This page might help you connect.
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/3ds/en_na/ts_internet.jsp?menu=update&submenu=ctr-ts-online-error-unable-update

If it still doesn't work, You could go into your router settings and disable the firewall. To do this, you need to go on your computer, and enter 192.168.1.1 on a browser url.
If that doesn't work go to start then click start-->run-->then type cmd and click "OK". Then type In the command prompt type: ipconfig and press "Enter" on the keyboard. If there's a "gateway address" that will the the number to type after http:// in your internet browser. It should be something like 192.168.1.1

When you get to the settings, disable your firewall and retry the update.
I feel obliged to tell you that Disabling your firewall increases the risk of attacks on your PC, therefore, after the update, you should turn you firewall back on after it is complete.
I hope that wasn't too complicated. Good luck :)

My modem's firewall doesn't let me use the eshop on my 3ds, I needed to turn it off to get it to download anything.
The system is new, and I'm not sure about in America, but the European servers seem like cheap pos', might fix it soon.

if you search on google... ur the first wii U owner with this "error code" but there is plenty with connection issues..

BUT...

IT appears that this codes exist indevidually...

the error code 506 is a connection problem
the error code 4011 is a power up problem... type on google "error code 4011" then type again "error code 506" You will see it your self

so maybe your wii U conflicts between these 2 problems...

Unable to find your specific error code. Please search your Wii U error code again, making sure to enter it exactly as it appears.

You sure you got the code right?
