All,

I am looking at developing a wifi (5ghz) shield similar the the DIY wifi range extenders that people have been putting together.

I guess that most of the consoles out there are installed in the corner of a typical room and the radio signals emitted from them are absorbed by the two walls and equipment surrounding the console.

While the device will not increase the power of the radio signal the shield will, in effect, bounce back the radio signals back into the room toward the gamepad, hopefully extending the range.

The shield can be made relatively cheaply with aluminium foil / tape and formed to grip the rear of the console.

What do people think...? Is there or will there be a market for such a device....?

Happy wii ing

Mine gets through a TV cabinet and 3 walls perfectly fine. Personally I don't see a need for it. But u suppose it could benefit others.

I think there will be a lot of DIY devices like this, but I doubt there's a market who wants to pay lotsa money for it.

Do you guys think I can use the Gamepad in my bedroom, which is (nearly) straight down below my attic where all the consoles are standing?

The range is about 20 feet.

My house is rubbish for 5Ghz, probably due to the fact the internal walls are pretty dense cinder block, but there is also a chance some of the paint under the wallpaper was lead based.

Before I got the Wii U I setup a 5Ghz WiFi network and at 10 feet the speed is considerably reduced, even maintaining line of sight in the same room.

From just in the next room, through a double walled chimney, my phone simply will not load properly and the GamePad loses communication. Even though its less than 10 feet line of sight from the Wii U.

Importantly though, it works fine sat in front of the TV but I don't think I have much chance of playing it in bed.
