Is it normal to have a constant high pitched noise coming from the disc drive when a disc is spinning?

I uploaded this video where you can hear the noise:

It's most obvious 9 seconds into the clip - you'll need to crank up the volume since the quality is poor. The noise is constant, the variation you hear is simple due to the movement of the camera when trying to capture the noise.

dont be confused....

When a high piched noise comes out the machine, its almost a dead capacitor!!!

here is some examples of, how about the noise sounds like..

https://www.youtube....h?v=CIF_5kcWpSA

be warned, they are disturbing sounds hehehehehe ... That means, they are nearly dead and need to be replaced. Also it has to do with electromagnetic things, thats why this sound comes out.

here is another sound sample (this is the best of the other videos, its very clear how it sounds like)... the capacitors are about 8-11 KHZ nearly to the end of the video... https://www.youtube....h?v=fSfc21RDkbw

ps: I wonder, Japanese capacitors are the best... so cheap? hahaha Let us know whats your problem.

well thats a good thing.. because if ur problem was the "high piched sound" then you should turn it in. So your problem is not the "high pitched sound" but the continues spin of your cd rom...

so this is your problem?

here is another topic with the same problem... http://thewiiu.com/t...isy-disc-drive/ you can fomort your self in there, ask them how they fixed it.

That's the fan - not the disc drive.

Anyone with a Wii U who could let me know if their disc drive makes the same noise? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

TBH I can't really hear the sound from your video. Hard to distinguish it from just background static. All I can say is that mine doesn't make any sound out of the ordinary you'd expect from a disc drive. It makes one high pitched sound as it starts spinning the disc, then there's a constant hum of it being read. You couldn't mean that, right?

It's just like the high pitched sound as it starts spinning the disc but not quite as loud - it becomes less prominent once the disc is at full speed but it's the same kind of noise ("weeeeee") that continues along with the "hum".

Mine definitely stops the sound after one or two seconds. I don't know what to tell you though. Try seeing if laying it flat is less noisy? Mine is vertical but I dunno.

Thanks for your help Ixchel.

If someone else reading this topic hears this whining noise from their disc drives I'd really appreciate you making a comment.

I've heard the noise can get much louder if you have certain game in the disk drive. One that comes to mind is Zombi U.
