I recently have acquired a Wii U and copies of Super Smash Brother Brawl & Zelda: Skyward Sword. The problem is I did not own a Wii as the whole motion sensor thing just turned me off but the Wii U looked very interesting so I got it.

Anyway. Since I did not originally own a Wii, I do not own a Wii Remote which apparently is something I need according to the Wii menu. So my question is this..

Do I need a Wii remote to use Wii games on the Wii U?

Will I be able to use the Wii U gamepad to play SSBB and Skyward Sword without having to rely on the Wii Remote?

The Wii U emulates the Wii, So no gamepad support or anything, Original Wii remotes are required.

What about this Wii U Pro controller? Does it work with SSBB and Skyward?

No, you have to use controllers that were compatible with the original Wii (Wii Remote, Classic Controller and Classic Controller Plus, etc). Different Wii games were made to be compatible with different controllers. Some of them were compatible with multiple controller setups. Skyward Sword to my knowledge can only be played with a Wii remote + nunchuk.

Thank you.

My last question is if the Wii U is compatible with the Wii Classic controller?

Thank you.

My last question is if the Wii U is compatible with the Wii Classic controller?

Yes, the Classic Controller/Classic Controller Pro does work with some certain Wii U games, along with some games in Wii Mode. Some Wii U games that support it include Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, CoD Black Ops 2, and Skylanders Giants. While the regular Wii games it works with include Smash Bros. Brawl, every Virtual Console game, and Mario Kart Wii.
