Yes its weird yes its zany i have tested this without failure with the wii u and a external hard drive.

Now wait you say a external hard drive?????

yes if you connect a external hard drive to your wii u and download your games from the eshop to the external hard drive you can cut downloading time in half.

but wait theres more...

it also works on demos as well

zombie u demo took 5 hours without a external hard drive

it only took 30 minutes with a external hard drive

even my rabbids and sing party took only 40 minutes to download and install

really strange

Maybe because the external hard drive has more free space than the system's memory.
Because the system's memory is filled with Miiverse,nintendo TVii, etc...
I could be wrong.

it seems like the flash memory in the wii u might have a slower bus rate also
