can the wii u pro controller be used to play wii games? or similarly, if it doesn't could you buy the wii controller and sinc it to the wii u to play wii games?

Wii U Pro Controller does not play Wii Games. You could use a Wii remote to play Wii U games. You will need Wii remotes, you use them a lot to play many games for Wii U.

Just adding it's a good idea to get the Wii Motion Plus controllers, since I assume it will become the new standard.

i've got two of the wii motion plus controllers already. just about the start Xenoblade Chronicles so I wanted something more controller-like since i have not owned a wii in the past and went from gamecube to wii u in terms of nintendo home consoles.

no, you cant use wii u pro controller to play wii games

 

but you can use the wii remote/plus control wii games,

 

goldeneye wii can use either wii remote/plus and nunchunk, wii zapper, wii classic controller, wii classic controller pro, and gamecube controller (wii only or gamecube console im afraid that wii u cant use gamecube controller devices )
