A mac mini isn't very powerful nowadays. You can put something together that is way better with 800 bucks.
Unfortunately, bootcamp isn't very good either. Despite it being a Windows emulator with all Windows capacities, it still means your Mac Mini will have to run 2 operating systems at the same time (as it doesn't shut down the Mac OS). Which also means it has to divide the 4GB RAM it has for 2 operating systems.
Then I could go on about the Mac Mini videocard etc..
I've used an iMac for a few years, and a few of my friends have iMacs. They are amazing for application development and design, but I havn't heard a single person ever say it's good for gaming. Unless you're sticking with the mac-games category on Steam, but you already mentioned you won't!

1.
Do you know how to use a computer?
- Yes - Buy PC
- No - Buy Apple Product, use them to get accustomed to using a computer-like device, and go back to step 1 in a few years.

You can buy an actually good gaming PC with $800.
Just a note though, if you decide to get a good video card, make sure your power supply meets it's requirements. The power supply is an important part of the PC.

If you really need something portable, save up some more and buy a gaming laptop. I've had my Alienware M15X (please don't hate me) for about a year now and as long as I keep the AC adapter plugged in it can run any modern game at highest quality.

no i have personal monitors at both homesI would never recommend a mac to anyone who wants to game. If your looking for something portable then your only real option is a laptop. Unless you don't mind lugging a monitor around, but that takes away the "portability" factor.
thanks everyone for your in put.
