Ok so I've had my Wii U for a week now and I'm impressed but I went to show it to friends last night and I put Nintendo land in for the first time and it said "updating" it took 20 mins to come on. Am I to expect this with every new game I buy? and what exactly is it updating?

You can skip it if you want.
If I'm correct it adds miiverse into the game.

Thanks for the replies guys. It was the cause of a slight annoyance last night but as long as it only happens the first time a game is loaded I can live with it.

First time and if a game dev wants to update the game. Not all games will have it first time though.
You can skip it and have it download in the background, but it will still need to be installed (installing is pretty quick though).

All my games took me like 5 mins each, I'm curious as to how the update times are so different between people.

Internet speeds. Everyone has different speeds. My downloads took less than a minute.

Does it tell you the size of the update before you download the update?

Seems kind of annoying that you cancel the update entirely.

It's not just disk games either, I bought two games off the e-store yesterday and after they downloaded and installed I sat down to play them only to be greeted with the update which then took 5 - 10 mins to download and install. How about updating them in the cloud before I download them!

There is no way you downloaded any of the system or game updates in less then a minute no matter how fast your Internet connection is. That's just impossible.
