Michael Pachter, an industry analyst, has claimed that, with regards to the Wii U:
…there isn’t really anything that will get hardware moving other than a price cut. I think they got it wrong with this console, it just doesn’t capture the imagination the way that the Wii did.
Of course, Satoru Iwata made it clear there will not be a price cut for the Wii U. If we can trust Pachter’s judgment though — and based on his previous statements, flipping a coin would be about as useful — then “the Wii U is not going to be very competitive if Sony and Microsoft launch comparable consoles at comparable prices”.
But at the same time, this is based on the assumption that Microsoft and Sony have something amazing in the works. I think people are giving too much credit to these non-existent pieces of hardware.
