Sooo i wake up and learn that the Wii Street U is avaliable to download. i go and download it to my hard drive i start it up and my hard drive apparently turned off. so i had to do a hard reset (unplug my wii u and replug it)

i turn it back one and the games that were in the hardrive are gone, and the usb icon is gone and now whenever i try to open up any other thing like system settings or New Super Mario Bros. U. it freezes while loading it.  and i cant turn it off by pushing the power button i have to once again do a hard reset.

maybe the Wii U is not picking up the HD for some reason ?

all i can suggest is to try connecting the HD when the Wii U is running & also try turning on the HD first & then the Wii U & see if anything works that way, other than that i think you will have to phone Nintendo.

hope you get this sorted out, keep us posted on how you get on, i will keep my eye out though to see if i see anyone else with a similar issue.

is the conflict i speak many times... Ur hdd is self powered? or it takes power from the usb?

if the hdd tried to drain more power from the usb and freezed... the hard reset and unplug from the power, freaked out the hdd with wii U....

u should unplug the the hdd usb instead.. not the wii u power

If the hdd conflicts and freezes its because of the power drain. Then hdd restarts on its own, after a few seconds.

If the hdd was running through usb then it would definitely have enough power so that won't be the issue

no u didnt understand... I asked if the usb hdd, is draining also its power from the USB, or if its selfpowered.

if the hdd drain power from the USB also, then there is the conflict.

The hdd would be designed to run off usb and usb ports have a maximum current output the hdd would never need more than that.

You are aware that the Wii U USB ports do not provide enough power to run all hard drives that run off USB. Nintendo themselves have stated they cannot guarantee that all self powered hard drives will work with the Wii U and that people are better off using hard drives that use a separate power supply.

Exactly but the bloke already said it worked perfectly fine. All I'm saying is the hdd would not just all of a sudden try to draw 10x more power from the console.

Even if it worked fine though that doesn't mean there won't be problems down the road. It could just be temperamental.

True. But generally it won't randomly try to draw more power, would most likely just die from being under powered.
