Resident Evil: Revelations was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS, and because of fan support, Capcom is developing the game for the HD platform, breathing new life into the game on the Wii U, Playstation 3, and XBox 360.
Or are they?
Well, Capcom is indeed developing the game for those systems, but is it truly because of the reason they’ve given us? Tsukasa Takenaka, the producer of Resident Evil: Revelations HD, responded to Joystiq at a Capcom event, saying:
When we worked on the 3DS version, we were completely targeting the 3DS. We didn’t start in HD, scale down, and now we’re scaling up – we worked to the exact 3DS specs.
Development was also going on Mercenaries so the team wouldn’t have had the capacity to be working on anything above the resolution of the 3DS screen, just to have the assets. At the time there was no plan for consoles – the console version was only decided after the 3DS launch and after we received fan and critic feedback on the game.
Although the game is being build from scratch, it may still feels like this is simply a port of a game which was released not too long ago to fans of the original release. Perhaps the game is being developed simply for owners of other systems, rather than giving us an HD version, and if that’s the case then it may be because of fan support of the original release. From fan support of the original game, they possibly found that releasing the game to a larger market would appease even more fans.
The game is set to be released in May for the Wii U, which can play the game solely on the GamePad if desired, but will it be worth the purchase? If you already own the game for the Nintendo 3DS, will you be purchasing this version as well?
