Nintendo have still not released a HDMI FULL RGB option for WIi U. Does that mean component cables at the same 720p/108p would look better? I have my WIi U set up with the HDMI so would it be worth changing over?

Not that I care much for Digital Foundry's opinions they do mention it here.

"However, there is some unwelcome news - specifically that the HDMI output is locked to limited-range RGB only, with footage from all games we've captured thus far revealing absolutely no information in the 0-16 or 235-255 areas. Many digital displays - PC monitors in particular - don't operate correctly with limited-range RGB, giving washed out colours principally defined by blacks being more grey-like in nature. This is something Nintendo really needs to address as a matter of urgency - it's the most basic of omissions, something that Sony and Microsoft resolved to everyone's satisfaction many, many years ago.
Bizarrely, for a console launching when digital video standards are established and mature, many users may well find that they get a more vibrant picture by using the legacy component outputs."

Really? I might try that. I wondered why the included HDMI cable wasn't gold plated.

It doesn't make a difference, I can assure you of that. When HDMI has signal loss it results in seemingly random pixels being the wrong colour, usually VERY different from the pixels nearby, so you would have noticed it immediately.

In shorter cables, the only reason for gold connectors is to prevent oxidisation in the socket, but that only works if the socket in your TV is gold plated too. If it isn't then using a gold plated connector will be worse.

Its telling that the cheapest HDMI cables on eBay are ALL gold plated, because its meaningless but looks good.

Component on the other hand is MUCH worse than HDMI, but might look better on some TVs if they do not handle the Limited RGB output properly (although they all should).

Stick with your HDMI as it is the better connection for picture clarity. As Alex said, it doesn't matter about gold connectors, HDMI is a digital signal so quality of cable or connectors doesn't matter, it still arrives as intended. If you start to have blocky chunks of pixels or the picture keeps going off then you need another cheap lead but you already have the best connection so stick with that Dude ;-)

Component will never out perform HDMI. if you have the option always go with HDMI.
