Euclideon still working on Unlimited Detail

Euclideon have just updated their site last night. It seems that this technology will be hitting consoles during the next gen, which could mean the playing field is leveled as far as visuals are concerned. Especially if Euclideon release something that works with currently available games engines that converts polygons into point cloud data rather than a completely different engine that takes time to develop to the standard of current engines.
Anyway just thought I'd let you know the Unlimited Detail Technology is still in development!

hmm, i still don't believe it. I haven't seen a demo from them where anything actually moves. It's all static. Thoughtful to update the website during an announcement of a nextgen console...
I'm not holding my breath, but if they bring out a live demo at E3 at some point with animation and everything I'm going to be very happy.

.....In regard to a games engine, we are presently focusing on industries that have lacked the quality of visuals and usability afforded to gamers for some time. The capability provided by GeoverseTM with Unlimited Detail, are profound for a range of specialist fields with unwieldy software tools.
Considering we are games developers at heart, creating something special is always on our mind, we’ll let you know in the future when we can reveal a nice surprise.

Euclideon only had 3 weeks to make the demo they used for gamescom, they simply wouldn't have had enough time to do any animation in that time.
This is where it ends

Pretty coolage
Indeed now Nintendo I don't think has lacked quality visuals they always get the most of what they have. But it may be an indication that they're working with Nintendo and Android/IOS platforms to bring higher quality visuals to these platforms

And there still hasn't been any animation shown.... and how old is that demo?

So I know their technology works on static models, I'll be interested to see if they release animated models in any future videos

You are not wrong, they have animated models, but everyone needs to keep in mind that this is a point cloud engine and not a physics engine. They aren't out to show deformable environments or slick animations, etc. That's all for another piece of game code to handle. No, what this is supposed to do is provide a way to deliver unlimited detail through point mapped atoms. What they have runs on a basic laptop CPU, in 2011 they hadn't even started getting into using GPGPU.

I asked about working on a Nintendo console this is what they had to say:
While we haven’t explored gaming consoles as yet, a full technical answers is unavailable. Overall it is an interesting topic, merging our lack of GPU requirement with consoles designed to run at peak performance delivering graphical content.
This may perhaps be a joint project at some stage in the future with a platform provider, however for now, we are concentrating on industry clients who have lacked strong visualisation solutions for years.
Being gamers, we will always be interested in this pursuit. Looking forward to surprising you and playing a UD game in the future!
So looks like consoles and PCs are far off, and it looks like maybe smartphones could get Unlimited Detail first?
