#205605 13 Yearold attemps to rape then murders mother over taking away his videogame

Anyway, I don't think I'm going to listen to the views of gun control from someone who was in the armed forces. Obviously you are going to be pro-guns.

In other words, you're not going to listen to anyone who has a diferent opinion from yours?

"Self defence" is the usual explanation behind owning a gun, but what does the actually mean? Defence from who? My brother lives in an area where there have been several stabbings, yet he doesn't carry a knife around or have a knife ready in his house to defend himself. As for a "hobby" enjoying shooting things is basically an enjoyment of violence, sure shooting targets isn't going to hurt anyone, but the whole point of shooting targets is to improve your shooting skills so you will be able to shoot that guy who breaks into your house to steal your TV.

There really is no need to own a gun. That's the way I see it anyway.

We're not really talking about terrorism here. Obviously bombs could do a lot more damage but it is difficult to control home made bombs and much easier to control guns.

There are 40 times more intentional homicides committed with a firearm in the US than the UK. The US has an intentional homicide rate of 4.8, compared to the UK's 1.2.

No, banning guns would never work, but it's clear something has to be done.

Defense from who? Odds are in America, the crook you will have to face will more than likely have a gun. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather have gun than a knife or baseball bat to face him.

Enjoying violence, you say? I've practiced shooting. It's more of a rush of excitement. It's neat holding power in your hands like that. I'm not shooting to enjoy violence. That's merely an assumption you're making on all gun owners.

Guns can certainly be controlled more than bombs, for law abiding citizens. Like I mentioned before, the black market will rise. That way, you won't have a registered gun and the Government can't track you down for it.

I'd like you to back up your statement with links to articles with information about the subject "40 times more intentional homicides committed with a firearm in the US than the UK"

"Clearly something has to be done" Hmm.... Gun laws are already being proposed and all it's doing is affecting law abiding citizens.

I'm glad this is a civilized argument. I've been in many horrible ones. :P

Wait. What? I wasn't talking about parenting. I was talking about the point of owning a gun.

Anyway, I don't think I'm going to listen to the views of gun control from someone who was in the armed forces. Obviously you are going to be pro-guns.

He understands and has experience with guns. Why not listen to him and his views?

#204395 Becoming a Nintendo loner...

Posted by Kokirii on 06 May 2013 - 08:21 AM

It was sarcasm :P

I'm just a high school student. I don't let gaming over rule my life or anything, and the truth is I actually don't play games THAT often.

Well just consider it free advice for when you get older then. :)

I'm not. There are just too many other good games on other platforms. I can't handle not being able to play a good game just because I don't own the console.

Same here. I am and will always be a multi platform gamer for this reason. I'm fortunate I can afford to own all the consoles which is great as there will always be exclusives I want to play like The Last Of Us and Beyond Two Souls on the PS3.

its stupid considering more than 1 console... Just think about all these people who say:  OH I WILL GET 720 AND WII u.. OR... PS4 AND wii U.. or all of them... hahaha

now just calculate that money  300 for wii U + 200-400 for accessories and games  and a ps4 for 400-500+400-600 in games... overall an extreme pc with loads of games and for more years than the actual console can live!.

u normally get 1 platform that has the best exclusives and a pc... I never like the idea of 2 consoles, or 3...  Today consoles cost alot of money! In the other hand people say.. PC IS EXPENSIIIIVE.. yeah right, let me ask you a question... how much money you gave the last 5 years in consoles... PC can last much longer and u play much better quality games.

Rubbish. Its not stupid in the least. Just because you can't afford all the consoles doesn't mean others who can shouldn't buy all or a combination of some oe them. You may be happy sticking with one console and missing out on quality exclusives or multi platform games which are better on other consoles but not everyone is. Gaming is my one and only hobby and I don't really spend a lot of money on other things so can and will buy more then one console.

#202892 Mountain Dew pulls racist TV AD.

If it were all white people, there would be people out there that still will find some offense to it.

No, I'm pretty certain no one would care.  It's okay in pop culture to represent Caucasians in a negative way, any one else and the ACLU gets involved.

When you do a police lineup, all of the people in the lineup roughly match the description of the perpetrator.  If all of them were white would that have been less racist?  It doesn't matter what color they are in the commercial, and the goat is just part of the humor.

The real racists are the people who jumped all over this because all they saw when they watched the commercial were black men in a police lineup, which obviously in their minds never happens.  Rather than watching the commercial and noticing the context of what was going on, they see one thing and immediately think about the race of the people involved.

#203388 New York City elementary school cafeteria first in the US to go completely veget

Posted by routerbad on 03 May 2013 - 08:52 AM

You lost meat "USDA at standards". If this isn't done properly so many of these kids are going to have B vitamin deficiency's. Also like the note that animal protein is easier for the body to adsorb than plant protein, and  without saturated fat they wont be able to absorb calcium properly. Also the soy products they are feeding them will cause these kids to have hormonal imbalances.

No one ever thinks about what humans are designed to ingest before they force these ridiculous diets.  They tried this in California, and what ended up happening was several students were taken to the hospital for undernourishment after a while, not because the food wasn't good, but because no one wanted to eat it, so they started a junk food black market in the school, so everyone was eating potato chips and other junk rather than a decent lunch.  My kids will go to school with bagged lunches, I will dictate what my child eats, not some moron at the school district that's looking for a kickback from the organic food grower unions.

#203368 Why do you hate english dub?

Posted by Azure-Edge on 03 May 2013 - 08:02 AM

Honestly, I think all the hate for English dubs is pretty stupid, and I'm both a long time anime fan and someone who knows Japanese to the point where I can almost go without subs (depending on the content of course). There was a time when a LOT of dubbing was pretty awful, mostly I'd say in the 90s when they were trying to edit a lot of anime to make it more G rated for kids. And I don't mean editing as in just changing meanings around, but as in they would actually cut up and doctor up episodes. Some shows had entire episodes that would never be shown, some had orders changed around, some were combined, etc. If you knew this was going on, it was pretty easy to hate any anime done in English. Bad voice acting was just the cherry on the cake.

Nowadays though English dubs have come a LONG way. Funimation's series have consistently put out VERY good dubs throughout the past several years and there are a lot of English voice overs that have gone on to surpass the Japanese originals. So really, I think there are a lot of people who hate on the dubs just for hating on the dubs. Now, if you just prefer the Japanese voices, then that's your thing. But to act as if most dubs are still crap is pretty shallow. Oh, and to the people who mention that there are sometimes things lost in translation, that happens regardless. You can't blame them for changing references when translating for a culture that would never understand the references in the first place. A straight copy/paste translation is NOT a good translation. In fact that is where you will have the most meaning lost. A really good translation comes when you have people who not only understand the cultural references/subtexts but also are able to figure something comparable in the language they're going to. That's a good dub job.

As for me personally, it really depends on both the show's content/context, AND the quality of the voice work. Things that are meant to take place in the west with western characters and names. Those are the ones that I DEFINITELY want to watch in English. It's not that the Japanese voice overs are bad, but it just doesn't fit well with the context, and unfortunately the Japanese butcher our language just as badly as we do theirs. I hate hearing them try to struggle to say a western name right and there are vowel sounds that shouldn't be there. It's not their fault, it's just that there are so many sounds in the English language that aren't in Japanese, so they just do their best.

Hellsing Ultimate is a perfect example. This show is not only about vampires, but it literally takes place in England and everyone in the show is European. I mean hell, they have Nazis! In Japanese, not only do I have to listen to them try to use English names and phrases accurately, but now they've thrown German in to the mix. It just pulls me out of the show. The dub on the other hand is well done. It flows better, the English fits in the context and they're even able to have accurate accents (well most). A few other notable mentions that I think are better in English would be Panty and Stocking, Fullmetal Alchemist (either one), and Code Geass. On the other hand, I think shows like Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, and Sailor Moon are more fun in Japanese. Then there are those that I can go either way on such as Baka and Test.

#203060 What Videogame should become an anime?

For me, Metal Gear Solid would be quite fitting. any of the eras, Naked Snake era, Solid Snake era, the Old Snake era.

It get a kick out of hearing Ottacon saying "This is like one of my Japanese Animes!"

I don't really see the point of you asking questions in a thread only to criticize nintendo fans for giving you answers.

#201323 10 questions about Nintendo i need answered

This is why i hate Nintendo fans

It's a silly thread.  Some of the questions, like "What can Iwata do once he realize interest western games and western 3rd party developers?" don't even make sense.  I have no idea what you're asking there.

It's also an arrogant thread.  Questions that you need answered?  Why do you need them answered?  And why should we scramble to try to answer them for you?  You may not have meant it to be that way, but it comes across like you are demanding that we all scramble about to make sure "Blade of Dyna" is satisfied with Nintendo's business operations.  We're here because we like Nintendo games, and from your profile it seems like you do, too.  So why are you so worried?  You're going to get your Zelda and your Kirby.  Nintendo is not on the verge of going out of business, even if the Wii U turns out like another Gamecube, which it doesn't look like it will.

People have been posting doom and gloom threads about Nintendo every day.  If you want to know what people have in response to pretty much every question you've asked (except maybe the ones that don't make any sense), you should look through those other threads instead of starting yet another one, in which you pose 10 questions that you need answered and expect other forum users to take you seriously.

I have my own question. Why are you so impatient? Is it really hard to wait until E3? It's several weeks away. If Nintendo fails to impress you by then, then sell your Wii U and get a PS4. Problem solved.
