#187827 Wii U won't be getting Unreal Engine 4

Posted by GAMER1984 on 29 March 2013 - 01:24 PM

If you go by Metacritic, Grand theft auto IV is the best game ever, which is complete hogwash, and has a user score of 7.6, more like it.

Most publications list Super Mario Brothers as the greatest game of all time, and it would be hard to argue, it was fresh, it was fun.  Uncharted series was another third person shooter with a climbing mechanic.  The only thing that made that game more entertaining than replaying tomb raider from 10 year earlier was the storytelling and the visuals.  The game itself was linear, and was supposed to be an "action/adventure" game when there was no adventure because you were told where to go the entire game.
That's understandable.  But honestly, and Nintendo knows this better than anyone else, its all about the games, and Nintendo WILL deliver their games, we can all rest assured.  3rd parties other than Ubisoft, who have been great recently, may or may not support the Wii U, but what it comes down to is will there be fun and exciting games that will come to the Wii U?  Yes.

For that reason and armed with the knowledge that Nintendo still make the best games on the planet, I will be more than satisfied with my purchase.  The hardware is there, so if developers are willing to put their games on the Wii U so much the better.

That's a problem though. How hard is it for Nintendo to invite 3rd parties to a location and say look at this. It looks good right the best way to get graphics out the Wii u is to do this. It just seems like there is no communication between Nintendo and 3rd parties. I'm a Nintendo fan but let's not put all the blame on 3rd parties like Nintendo can do no wrong.

#186439 Hybrid Downloadable Games?

Posted by Alex Atkin UK on 26 March 2013 - 08:45 AM

You obviously skipped Xbox 360 where we can already keep our profile, save games AND downloadable games on a USB stick and use them on any console, as long as you are signed into your account online.

The only difference is you are proposing a USB stick that effectively is an unlock key for the game, allowing you to sell it on later if you get bored with the game.

However that still means you have to swap them when you want to play a different game, plus it would be more expensive to manufacture.

Far cheaper to just let us put our games and saves on a standard USB stick with DRM locking them down to our profile.  Of course, Nintendo couldn't even manage to GIVE US a profile, so there isn't much chance of that.  Quite frankly, the way the Wii U handles digital content utterly sucks and there is no good reason for it.

#185123 how was the wiiu suppost to attract core gamers again ?

Posted by Mensrea on 21 March 2013 - 04:57 PM

I don't think that was their plan at all. Their plan seemed to be to make a console that would piggyback off the Wii's huge success by adding a new control feature (touch) that would appeal to non gamers. Then they would back that up with their stable of IP's that appeal to the Nintendo fanbase.

The problem is, the non gamers that ate up the Wii, don't really care about the Wii U. So Nintendo is in a pickle right now.

#184360 Does Saints Row 4 not coming to Wii U even matter?

Posted by CUD on 19 March 2013 - 06:04 PM

Not coming to Wii U: "I don't care it doesn't look good."

Coming to Wii U: "Cool more Wii U games, looks cool."

Your disinterest in the game doesn't change the fact that the Wii U isn't getting it, it may make it easier for you to convince yourself that it's not a problem that the Wii U is missing out on this game and others but it doesn't change the facts.

#183647 how was the wiiu suppost to attract core gamers again ?

With the badass IPs we grew up with and loved. Plus the fact you don't have to use damn motion controls all the time.

What I said just now above this.

what does motion controls have to do with "core" gamers?

Are you confusing "core" gamers with silly ponys who need to shut the Wii up and die so they shut the Wii up about motion controls as there's no legitimate problem with them as a control scheme?

#180370 is metroid kiddie ?

Posted by routerbad on 07 March 2013 - 03:23 PM

It doesn't apply to any Nintendo games.  "Kiddie" only refers to what kids call games that aren't rated mature, or what adults who haven't progressed emotionally enough to not have to prove their maturity through video games refer to them as.

Real kiddie games can be found on the leapster as well as on other platforms like ios android, PC, etc.  The sole purpose of those games is to teach a child something.  Math, spelling, writing.  We all remember those games when we were in gradeschool I'm sure.

E for Everyone games are not kiddie, it just means there aren't any themes that require parental discretion before allowing children to play them.  They still take a certain amount of focus, determination, and time to complete, so wouldn't be appropriate for most children under the age of 5.  E games can be played by kids, but that doesn't preclude an adult finding those games enjoyable.  Think of kiddie as a marketing term used by publishers specifically to make kids want them, because its something they aren't supposed to play.  Similar to watching R rated films or seeing explicit material on late night tv.

#173922 Take notes Nintendo

Posted by 16-bitLink on 21 February 2013 - 02:55 AM

Nintendo botched the launch by entrusting it to third parties who delayed, cancelled, and under delivered. E3 2013 is launch 2.0

Sonys conference kinda sucked.

The single greatest thing was the unreal 4 demo. And we saw that last year.

Knack is just stupid. Kill zone looks ok. And second son looks like a wii u game.

The controller looks like something out of the Sanford and Son junkyard and... Where the heck did Sony find so many creepy people to keynote?

Nintendo shouldn't take notes here.

But I will guarantee Microsoft has a much better, more focused reveal in store.

Wii u will likely bE the fun console. Xbox will likely be the more connected console. And ps4 will be the most powerful.

But in the end the Xbox and ps4 will look very similar and the wii u will be somewhat less, but still look good next to these two.

Sony launched this reveal early and it just didn't feel fully baked.
Like maybe they aren't confident going head to head with Nintendo at e3. It's also likely they didn't feel confident competing against a 720 reveal.

Sony revealed a great hardware specification. ESP the gpu and ram. But the games were not that great. And the overrall delivery of the keynote was lame. ESP the bald guy who tried too hard to sell his game by trying to stir up real life strife over the police... Just to sell a game. Lol

Dude NONE of the games looked like Wii U, I haven't seen or heard of any Wii U game looking half as good what they showed. PS4 is like 10x more powerful than Wii U already and now on top of that they have even BETTER 3rd party support, I dont know man Nintendo is falling behind fast, Zelda and Mario isn't going to save them anymore. It seems like Nintendo is still the "little kids" console and not going after the hardcore/ more serious games. I dont know how you think it sucked it was literally a small taste of whats to come, Nintendo better get thier shi* together because as of now my wii u looks like its going to be sold to help me get a ps4..

Your reasoning makes little sense. I don't care how tired you and every other Monster Hunter fanboy (that's right, i said it, fanboy) is of hearing the same complaints on a thread. If it applies to the game, I'm going to talk about it. That being said, going back to my original point, there is NO reason why there shouldn't be a tutorial.

If anyone has a problem with me speaking my mind, then that's your problem, not mine. It's not like I'm speaking blasphemy.

A block of text was here.

When a game fails to make the player make sense of it's controls through a tutorial or through actual gameplay, that is the fault of the game. Just because the mass has gotten used a flaw doesn't mean it's not a flaw anymore... it just means the mass has looked past it. For the demo, the first look into a game new players have hands on, to ignore a newer audience base.. that's awful.

That being said, that was his opinion based off the demo as a new player being introduced to a game without guidance, giving advice to other players who may have an issue with this.  New players shouldn't have to go on a Wikipedia to learn to play the game. You're speaking through the lenses of elitism.

#168258 Nintendo I am running out of excuses for you

Posted by Nollog on 07 February 2013 - 11:12 AM

I am putting this rant here because the post is mostly game related, but it will have some hardware sprinkled in.  My increasing anger and frustration with the Big N all started last night when I was forced to restart my career in NBA 2k13 for the third time due to freezing and loss of save data.  I gave Nintendo a pass on that one because I figured that it could be an issue on the developer's side instead of a hardware issue.  After that frustration I needed to fiddle with my internet settings, at which time the Wii U froze on me twice and had to be unplugged.  The fact that this kind of stuff has still not been resolved is getting absolutely unacceptable.  It is starting to make me wonder what Nintendo was doing in the year or so leading up to the release of this rushed out product.  Which brings me to the games.

I blame Nintendo for EA making bad ports too, why can't third parties have Nintendo fix all their games for them?!?!?!
(Developers fault, not Nintendo's)

I would like to think that Nintendo was using that time wisely for the development of first party games, but the fact of the matter is that it only released two of those for launch, NSMBU2 and Nintendo Land.  Seriously folks, how long of a development cycle could those two games have taken.  Now we find out that Pikmin 3 has been pushed to a release date of "the first half of the year."  Mark my words when I say that we will not see that game until summer.  What in the hell was Nintendo doing in between the time of their last major Wii release and the release of the Wii U.  That will make a minimum of 8 months between first party releases.  That is totally ridiculous even by Nintendo standards.

NSMBU*.
NintendoLand has been in development for a long time. Believe it or not, it's an original idea and those take a while to plan and make.
Graphic-heavy games are actually less time-intensive, as you can have graphic artists working on the textures while making the game code, halving the time.
No, this is Nintendo's standards from before the Wii, they always postponed games, look it up.
This close to launch of a their new console is just bad planning. If they were any other company they would have put it out and then patched it.

I would also like to think that, perhaps, Nintendo was working on securing Eshop titles or working on their virtual console.  The Eshop has been stagnant since release date, and the virtual console is non existent.  These are things that should have been in a better state right out of the box.  Again I ask what in the hell was Nintendo doing all that time.

Yoshi, Mario3D, Mario Kart, Retro were busy, 3DS Games, X, etc.
They probably just had a skeleton team on the unimportant things like VC emulators and it's not really their fault games aren't coming to the eshop as fast as they are steam.
There's a million reasons steam, or even psn or xbl would get more games per week than the wii u.

I will say this much.  Nintendo better get around to giving us firm release dates on some of their first party games pretty soon, and better yet, give us some actual dates on games like Pikmin 3, Bayonetta, and The Wonderful 101.  If not I fear this ship is sinking like a damned stone.  Sorry for the rant folks, but I want answers from Nintendo at this point.  What was Nintendo doing for all that time???????

They were making games.

#168891 Ubisoft working on a new, exclusive Rayman Legends demo for Wii U

Posted by Crispy Bacon on 08 February 2013 - 01:56 PM

Calling it now:

1 week before the new, exclusive demo goes live on the eShop, Ubisoft will issue a press release stating that the demo has been delayed for 2 months and is also appearing on PSN & Xbox Live. All 3 consoles will receive the demo on the same day. :P

#168613 Ubisoft Says "Nintendo Will Make Necessary Changes to the Wii U"

Posted by Auzzie Wingman on 08 February 2013 - 12:30 AM

After reading the article, I don't think Yves is ever once suggesting that they are demanding a change in the Wii U. He is, however, firm in saying that these changes exist.

Nintendo clearly understand that they have some changes they need to do to the Wii U console, and Yves simply knows what these are. It may have been a case where Ubisoft said to Nintendo "Here are some things that we've noticed about the Wii U, and how it has the ability to impact it's future". More likely, other companies have come forward and had similar things to state, and Nintendo has made a move on those things.

I hope these changes are for the better. They probably are, or Yves would've never commented on the matter.

#152097 Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is coming to the Wii U

Posted by Blake on 26 December 2012 - 08:39 AM

I don't get all the hype of the Telltale game.  The story is fun, but people are hyping the game up to GoTY level along side games like Farcry 3 and Halo 4.  Without multiplayer or any kind of real replay value I just cannot see that.

The Walking Dead features a great story, fun action sequences, and believable characterization. You feel as if you're in a zombie apocalypse, you even make the decisions, and these decisions effect the story.

Also, a game doesn't have to have multiplayer to be a great game, the same goes for replay value.
