#20380 Savings check! :P

Posted by StreetPassWanter on 10 August 2011 - 02:19 PM

I have saved nothing. I am saving up for some of the Wii and 3DS games for this year and next year. Though after all the pre orders for those games are done I will start saving for the Wii U and maybe a game or two.

That's me.

Maybe because there's nothing good on TV anymore these days.

TV sucks. VG FTW.

No. To be quite honest, It's not because I'm a Nintendo Fanboy or anything, but it's because I have a friend who had to go through the crap Sony did with the PSP. he regrets the purchase not because of the lack of games, but because of Sony's failure to keep their promises from E3 2004. For roughly around the last year, the only people that supported the PSP with heavy weight titles were Square Enix and Atlas. Plus, Sony claimed back then that the PSP would have everything gamers had wanted, when at the end of it's life, the DS beat it heavily in every possible category of games that were available for both systems. I can't name a single game on the PSP that was not outclassed by any DS game in the same category.
All in All, History is looking to repeat itself.

#20100 Super Short 8 bit tune

I was attempting to make chiptune and this was the result. The rhythm of the melody was actually an accident I made on fl studio...buut I love it so much I kept it. xD  Even though this was composed on fl studio, I tried to make it as if I was working in 8 bits (like in NES and gameboy games 0= ) which means I gotta work with 3 or 4 "channels." I worked with three, which is the melody, bass, and percussion. It was pretty fun. :( Hope you enjoy it!

#20107 "Operation Moogle"

Posted by MacroManJr on 09 August 2011 - 11:38 AM

Okay, guys, I'm back from a busy round of trying to find a new apartment and some other stuff.  Unfortunately, I lost yet another apartment (this is crazy), so I'm taking a break from it and getting back to this.  I've got to find a new place by the end of this month, but I'm letting my sister help me find a place.  I've also got to look for a new car.  It's crazy--I actually have the money available, but can't seem to find jack in the nick of time!  Oh well, something will come up soon, I'm sure.

In the meanwhile, I haven't gotten very much done on the video, but I did get two things done.  I rendered a basic test animation of a power-up special effect, and I'm currently working on more particles system test animation now, which will be the sparkly and glowing magic stuff with some of the characters' attacks (you know the glowing special effects you see with special attacks and whatnot).

Here's a link to it:

special effect test render 01

And also, I just got a new addon for Blender called Bsurfaces which will increase my productivity like threefold (especially with the characters).  I was having a difficult time with retopology of the faces taking too long and being kinda a pain to deal with (for those who are familiar with the modeling process), but this new premium Add-on for Blender is big help.  I'm also working on some schematic drawings for the weapons to base the 3D modeling on.

Anyways, I'm getting back on track with the animation portion of the montage videos.  I think we'll definitely need a flashy video, because though we're still getting votes and visits to the Operation Moogle sites, it's a gradual one.  Seems like every other "Operation" out there gets more notice than ours do--and we're the one effort that was actually specifically asked for by a game company!

Operation Rainfall, Operation Moonfall, and "100,000 Strong for Bringing Back Mega Man Legends 3" have all gotten wide attention, and I think our videos will get us similar attention (if not a little more).  By the way, I personally support those efforts myself (and hope you do, too).

If you've got any ideas for videos, try them out, work on them!  We'll make as many unique videos for our cause as we can!  It doesn't have to be a flashy 3D animation--a simple little montage or skit or something like that can work.  Operation Rainfall are using some funny skits to get more attention--and it's working, with over 14,000 views of their uploaded videos.

I think if we go the extra mile in creating some creative, catchy and inspiring videos for our cause--and emphasize the fact that Square Enix actually asked for this effort, and that enough support for this cause would pretty much make this HD collection a sure thing--I think we can gain similar heavy support like our other "Operation" efforts have gained.

Any kind of support here is welcomed for Operation Moogle, however big or small.  Customized signature images, wallpapers, videos, fan art--they'll be posted on our blog site.  And anything you can do to encourage more signatures in our petitions, votes in our Poll, and even simple Likes to our Facebook fan page and Followings us on Twitter (both of which I'll update in a little while), you're help is never too small.

Anyways, sorry for the absence!  Glad to be back!

#19218 Online passes for used games

Posted by Wertville on 05 August 2011 - 08:24 PM

I'm going to completely opposite most and APPLAUD Ubisoft for doing this. With the growing cost of video game development, the amount of money made has to be higher... Which means they need more sales. However, a large chunk of those sales (Much MUCH more than Piracy) get lost to used game sales, in which the devs make no money and therefore must accommodate this through other means...

Three methods so far:
1)The infamous DLC. ("What's that? You want to buy the game cheaper, simply because someone else has played it? WELL FINE, then we'll only INCLUDE half the game MUHAHAHHA")
2)The misinterpreted (But potentially valid) Save locking. ("Hmph, you want to buy a game used? Fine. We'll make SURE that it's used, though.")
3)The newest, Forcing Full Price. ("You want to buy the game $10 cheaper? Ok, but we're going to knock off $10 worth of content until you decide to go full."

Now, out of those 3, which is the most fair? The third one only really affects used gamers and gives much better support to the companies, while the other two hurt everyone and bring bad rep.

#19023 Wii U's Rejection.

Posted by Epic Kirby on 05 August 2011 - 02:10 PM

I have the same worries as you, I was pretty picked off that such a great game like Dead or Alive barely made the top ten. Its features and graphics are amazing so it was such a shame. I'm still getting Spotpass challenges to this day. However Ocarina of Time shot straight to the top of the charts... a remake...barely using any features... I'm not saying it's not a great game but Dead or Alive deserved better sales. I don't see how people can complain about Petz and Cooking Mama if they aren't willing to buy third party titles that are done well.

Also, Batman: Arkham City (PS360), Metro: Last Light  (PS360), Darksiders  (PS360). If people can buy these games on their own console what reason do they have to buy the Wii U? The only way is if developers make these games really special by utilizing the Wii U controller in brilliant ways.

You hear that? Feld0 wants entertainment!

But before we begin, choose your weapons.
Everyone else, place your bets.

This is a fight to the death... multiple times.
(Don't worry, we've got plenty of Max Revives, Monster Reborns and Phoenix Downs. Whatever tickles your fancy).

#17332 Nintendo is not doing well???

Posted by SparktehFox on 29 July 2011 - 01:34 AM

It's all about the Benjamins, baby.  First off the price drop is Nintendo taking advantage of their ability to do so, and the loss is not a great one with Nintendo losing only about 5$ AT MAX, which could easily be offset by upcoming holiday sales and a competitive leverage against it's competition. I'm thinking of the Wii sales with this one. While there were those of us who got the Wii because we knew about the investment, others just got it because it was the cheapest thing which will easily be the 3DS this Christmas. The Vita will be selling at a loss of 70$ per console for the basic WiFi version and the extra 50$ for the 3G version is basically just your first payment toward AT&T for the service (I wouldn't mind 3G but Ninty has it right on this one. Free 3G or none at all). They do not plan on making any profit for the PSV for at least three years which is pretty humiliating especially when you take into consideration that it's still an expensive piece. And while people "accept" the price for the Vita now they will all but abandon that hype once it sells, just as the 3DS suffered. People believed that the 3DS would easily be 300-350 dollars but that was changed to 250$. Even though people were ecstatic for the price they still mother doged and moaned about it after they got it. Now people shouldn't have much to complain about with the 3DS only being 20$ more than the 3DS when it launched, and Sony wouldn't dare try to compete with that price, seeing as they already look stupid for copying the 3DS line in the first place and making it hella expensive.

Secondly Nintendo's first party titles almost always bring bank. That being said, Nintendo does not have to separate development cost with these games because they are developed in house. This easily breaks off whatever little loss the 3DS causes. Sony on the other hand ALWAYS has to share first party profits seeing as they do not actually develop games but moreso hire third parties to become exclusive for Sony effectively making them second parties. Second parties can easily walk away from a company as well as we've seen RARE get bought off Nintendo and BUNGIE fall off with M$. This gives Ninty a much larger advantage from an economic standpoint. And with Nintendo easily being able to offset their losses with huge upcoming titles such as Super Mario, Mario Kart, Luigi's Mansion, RE Revelations, whatever GRASSHOPPER has up their sleeve, and more we could easily see another price drop in a year or so. Maybe less, while Sony won't be able to make any changes until their three year drought is up IF things go well at all!

TL::DR
Nintendo is Still doing great and much better than Sony when you compare the economics of the situation.

Besides, the Vita/PS3 combo won't have all the awesome Nintendo games like Pikmin 3 and SSBU.

I won't pay for a server for the same reason I don't have the beta. I don't have a way to pay, sorry.

#17601 Would you play on a Wii U Forums Minecraft server?

Posted by Bill Cipher on 31 July 2011 - 12:13 PM

Do you know how much RAM your friend's running Minecraft with? I'm sure my server's processor, hard drives, and network connection can keep up with it, but I just don't know how many players 512 MB of RAM can take. I can give it a bit more than that, but I'll run the risk of destabilizing my websites.

I just called him to check, and he said he has the same amount of RAM that he's using to run Mine craft. I was just on his server, and he said that he had actually managed to get 24 people on there while still run mostly lag free.
