#91101 Guess the Specs

Posted by Penguin101 on 01 July 2012 - 08:46 AM

I hope now this multi-core processor is called the triforce CPU and each spereate core called "power" "wisdom" and "courage"

#89841 I have a fear that the Wii U won't get great third party support

Posted by Hank Hill on 25 June 2012 - 07:12 AM

The problem it only was able to hold 1.5GB of data, while the Xbox and PS2 at least 4GB. Which limited developers.

Oh, ok. I figured it was some such problem, although I was leaning towards the problem being proprietary media. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

#89876 Rumor: Nintendo Land to Feature More Than Nintendo Themed Mini Games

Posted by Blake on 25 June 2012 - 11:15 AM

Yeah, there is no way. Nintendo definitely wants (and needs) Nintendo Land to be rated E. A Resident Evil attraction would at least make it E10, if they lower the violence to a very low. Would be cool for us, but it isn't going to happen.

#84097 Sony wonderbook/E3 2012

Posted by MiSoRamen on 04 June 2012 - 06:35 PM

I really enjoyed it! It had great games and the atmosphere was nice as well. The Wonderbook concept was very interesting. Almost makes me want to pick up a PS3. Good Job Sony :D

#84132 Ubisoft announced Watch Dogs - Connection Is Power

Posted by neverwinteru on 04 June 2012 - 07:19 PM

Watching the trailer now, it looks and sounds amazing. My only worry is it sounds like what Neo said from the Matrix at the end of the movie. I don't want this awesome game to get over looked as a matrix rip off.

either way, I want this on Wii You.

thats all i kept thinking was "wtf is this, it looks like the matrix" i have to admit it does look very good even if it did confuse the hell out of everybody watching it.

#83445 New Wii U Pro Controller unveiled by Iwata

Posted by MiSoRamen on 03 June 2012 - 03:12 PM

Its similar but I am not going to say anything. With how much Nintendo has been copied over the years I think ee can forgive a design that is apparently inspired by someone else.

I love how Nintendo thinks outside the box!

#82774 Hypothetical Spec Battle: Wii U VS PS4

Posted by Blasty on 02 June 2012 - 06:31 AM

The post isn't about if Sony will make a powerful machine, but if these specs are real then compared to the Wii U rumored specs, which are better? How does the 68xx compare to the 7670? I don't think we can compare the processors, but I do think the IBM will be more powerful.

I think the PS4 will be weaker than the Wii U or just a tiny bit stronger.

#82608 WiiU CPU Revealed by Patent: "Enhanced PowerPC 750" ?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 01 June 2012 - 05:11 PM

POWER7 hasn't been around but the power brand has.

Exactly the point.

the 360 uses Power 5 at its core.  The GCN uses a different version of the "PowerPC" family.

The wii U uses the newest and most powerful - Power 7.  The point being that the Power 7 is nothing like 4 Wii CPUs overclocked and linked together...

#81758 EPIC responds

Posted by Keviin on 29 May 2012 - 11:33 PM

^good post, makes sense.

By the way. Remember NDA people? Epic is not allowed to talk about Wii U.

I really hope for Metroid Unreal 4 or something.

#81348 Will Nintendo show off next-gen graphics?

Posted by Keviin on 28 May 2012 - 12:28 PM

Well, no (though less as Sony/MS fans). Until the Wii they always had some impressive new tech... "Now you're playing with power. Super power." is a good example of what they once were all about.

#81427 Rumor: List Of New Functions Available In Latest Wii U Dev Kits

Posted by 10k on 28 May 2012 - 04:39 PM

We’ve already heard that Wii U developers have received their final development kits for the console, but what do surprises do they contain? Well according to a source over at Neogaf the latest dev kits allow for voice chat, multitasking and facial recognition. Here’s a supposed list of the latest features:

  • Video Chat is available, but must be from the main menu of the system (not while playing a game).
  • Voice Commands are available (similar to this rumor we heard about the 3DS maybe?)
  • Facial Recognition (similar to features of the Xbox Kinect)
  • Ability to suspend games, similar to 3DS.
  • Ability to share achievements with friends by sending videos or screenshots with drawings on them.
  • Watch a friend play online
  • Multitasking (example: keep a text or video walkthrough open from the site while playing the game, swap back and forth as needed)
http://mynintendonew...wii-u-dev-kits/

The bolded ones are tasks which current gen consoles cannot complete. How many times have you had to close a game on the 360 dashboard or PS3 just to go browse some guide or pause a game while answering a message on Live. Watching a friend play is a big feature as it can allow you to see how to beat a certain section of the game you struggle with, view gameplay footage of a game you might be interested in, or just see how other ppl play. It may be Wii U's killer online feature. The facial recognition was expected with the Kinect being out now. Voice commands is interesting. The rest were expected.

#79678 RUMOR: Retro's New Game to be "Star Fox – Metroid: Fusion Saga"

Zelda and Final Fantasy... Fusion Saga!

Exactly! I can't wait to see if this actually exists!

#77406 "The Intended Platforms UE 4 is aimed at have not been announced" Say...

Posted by Stewox on 08 May 2012 - 01:47 AM

Before people say no Wii U support. He says "intended platforms." Wii U might not have been the intended platform for UE4, but may run it at the lowest setting. All speculation of course

It runs or it doesn't,  either they made it run or they didin't try.

If they are developing it for WiiU, it will run, how good will it look, we don't know, but from all the sources and what we saw, expectations are good.
If they are not developing it for WiiU, it will not run, obviously.
It's not like they're going to release it half-broken ... so these stupid assumptions of "lowest settings" are so primitive and speak of someone who has no experience with this subject.
You don't even have the comparable "high settings" to begin with talking about this ... it's so pointless and a waste of time.

You people are so silly, it's not like they take the engine from PC and plug it into a console and tick a few setting boxes and see if it runs ... horsing stupid. They are ACTIVELY DEVELOPING THE SOFTWARE to the point it is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT version of the engine and it's not one engine therefore, it's multiple versions of it and this takes time to perfect on any given platform, each platform is another version of the engine, practically there will be 4 version of the engine, PC, X720, PS4 and WiiU. Lets see a few examples, Epic even made UE3 to run on FLASH, so there's another complete separate VERSION of the engine, obviously not all of the code had to be rewritten that's why it's called a "version", most importantly it has to have proper CPU code for the CPU that the platform has as well as gpu, API calls and all that so it can run on the hardware otherwise it's good as dead. For example ID Software made RAGE (idtech5)  for PS3, X360, PC ... those are 3 version of the engine and had to be developed, he said simultaneously, that means 3 programming teams working on the engine, some of the engine code that is safe and doesn't affect low level  was shared obviously to speed up development of unnecessary rewritting(scripts ..etc), the engine was also developed in a way so the datasets (materials, models, textures) would be compatible with all 3 versions of the engine, so the PC dataset would work on any console, this is quite a pretty BIG and important thing that saves LOTS of time for the mass material production. The IDTech5 engine by it self is way more capable that the game had shown, it's way more advanced than what you seen in Rage, rage is like a samartian DEMO, it's a graphical DEMONSTRATION ON TOP OF THE ENGINE, it does not NECESSAIRLY REPRESENT the engine, EPIC is known for TECH DEMOS and Samartian is a TECH DEMO thus it's more likely to show the full potential and updates to the UE3 engine, wihile Carmack with the Rage game has not been targeting tech demos and has opted to run the game 60 FPS on all consoles which took off even more GFX and also the IDTech5 engine does not have tesselation, because it started development in 2005, and Carmack makes his engines how he thinks so he does not believe into BOLT-ONS (samartian tech stuff is an UE3 bolt-on, it's UE3.X , UE3pointWhatever ... UE3 got many updates ... these are bolt-ons he thinks are not best and not optimized enough, he thinks this needs to be developed from the beginning to take each of the low-level areas into effect down to pixel level, Crytek's  Crysis 2 DX11 update is also a BOLT-ON, it's an update, tesselation was not developed from the start of the engine development, and you can see in a tech article how crappy optimized Crytek's tesselation is ... how much GPU processing goes into WASTE ... you need these beefy PC setups to run, Im okay with that, i love hardware, but the game is so poorly optimized, not just itself, but due to PC limitations which consoles do not have... big topic, find my other posts here if you want to know more about that)

Stop mixing graphic requirements, DEMO is MADE-UP it's not the default engine, the engine has no GPU requirements to run by it self,  today's big engines are FULLY customizable you can do whatever you want, there is no fixed settings of "low, high, very high" this is plain stupid, developers (OBVIOUSLY) have much more control of what they're doing than any user ever had.

So many bullcrap discussions people waste time on, how the heck can you even take this, Im following for two months and im bored, little serious tech discussion cause all of it was already done and only now to do is to wait for e3.

And for the most part - can we please stop talking about the people talking "no wiiu support" those are irrelevant console noobs and please stop wasting time with this subject. It will support WiiU and this was clear months ago, it is more obvious than star you see in the sky every day, the only question is how much graphical fidelity would be able to show, samartian is a DEMO on TOP of the engine, it is irrelevant, and it's not up to the engine so much because these engines are very good and will push hardware to limits, it's up to the hardware what will be, we don't know that finally yet, so stop making silly comparrisions which don't make any technical sense.

#74414 [Speculation] Skype - there's is deffinetely potential.

Posted by Gameboysoadvance on 24 April 2012 - 08:42 AM

I love Skype, so do many here. I use it for all my chat needs, I never use in game PSN and Xbox 360 party chat. When Microsoft bought out Skype I was happy, because they would incorporate it into Xbox Live and I believe this could lead to people on any platform to chat with Xbox Live users. Now recently the Skype app for PS Vita was released and despite being a MS service it is fully functional and doesn't offer comprises from what I have gathered. http://www.theverge....o-a-phone-today. The article from the verge states that Skype runs in the background, and can receive calls while playing games. The game is suspended while your calling. In a previous topic I said my request would be from the Wii U apps (if the rumour is correct) to be running while playing a game or have Skype deeply integrated into the online system for the Wii U, I doubt people want a dedicated app just for video calling, I'm pretty sure we'd like to enjoy it as a service not an app. The reason behind the vita not being able to run it simulataneously while playing a game is of course the strain that would be put on the system. Hopefully this doesn't cause a performance hit if it ever comes to the Wii U in the way that I have described and wished it to be as.

Love the idea but I don't think Nintendo will be going the Sony route. They are just not into paying the competition.
