#185190 Ps4 following Wii U lead with Unity engine

Posted by Socalmuscle on 21 March 2013 - 08:50 PM

http://m.joystiq.com...home_latest_art

Unity specially optimized for ps4. Just like for wii u.

Funny. The haters used the mere availability of Unity for Wii U as a reason to deride the console.

I imagine their praise of Sony for the same tech. Lol

Meanwhile, multiplatform development just got a whole lot easier.

#183915 EA's CEO STEPS DOWN! HOORAY!

Posted by Socalmuscle on 18 March 2013 - 01:10 PM

smh are you nintendofans that ignorant?

mr. Riccitiello had nothing to do with eas business decisions nor their attitude towards nintendo

Dude.  He is the CEO. Not just some board member. He was actively heavily involved in every major decision, from boardroom concept to day to day making it happen.

He had nothing to do with those things like Steve Jobs had nothing to do with the iPhone.

#182431 [Photo] Wii U GPU Die

When average consumer buys a car, they dont ask what materials are used to make the car... They see the car, try it, buy it if they like it.

Same is with the consoles. I dont think M$ will go into details with their system too. Sony can do that and Sony's interest is to do that because of their audience, and myths about Sony's power.

The fact is, only small percentage of consumers really care about specs. What people call "core gamers" are not more that 10% of all gamers, and large percentage of core gamers are mainly PC gamers.

Wii U is one solid piece of hardware, it just needs software and marketing. I think that Wii U is more appealing to core gamers than Wii was, it is the best balanced machine to date, and have the most comfortable controller ever created... People just need some software that they can play on it.

When X, Mario, Metroid and Bayonetta 2 come out, spike in sales will be huge.

Actually, most people research the car. Engine type, number of cylinders, horsepower, torque, how many liters (cubic inch displacement), exhaust type, etc.

Same with consoles.

It's all about potential. When you buy high performance hardware, you have peace of mind knowing that your hardware won't be a limiting factor in your gaming enjoyment. With weak hardware, you may still get a fun game but it will be sub par in other areas such as graphics, that would have really changed the e perience.

But Nintendo thinks different. They don't want to focus on specs, though they obviously worked very hard in putting together a high performance machine.

They want to be the place you go to just enjoy. Like willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Without all the technical difficulties. Lol

#181522 what can Nintendo do to win EA back

Posted by Socalmuscle on 11 March 2013 - 12:12 AM

Hmm

I don't think there is anything reasonable Nintendo can do.

EA has an axe to grind for whatever reason.

Interesting the NFS was developed though. And the fact that it was developed with at least a level of care for the Wii Us hardware superiority (versus other ports).

Yet, crytek has admitted to having a Wii U version of Crysis near launch ready. That means time and money had been spent in the game specifically for Wii U.

But EA canned it. That is basically the definition of stupidity. They lost money on purpose. Just to beef with Nintendo and crap in their fans.

When you are dealing with that level of stupid, there's nothing you can do.

EA basically wants to tell Nintendo what to do. When Nintendo says "we will run our own company, thanks," EA has a hissy fit.

EA may not like being reminded that they make games for other peoples hardware, but that's the reality of it. And they just need to remember that.
They are hurting their developers, their fans, and their bottom line.

What can Nintendo do? Nothing. At least nothing within reason. Sure they could just let EA run the company. But no self respecting company would allow that. Especially a company like Nintendo which has been far more successful for far longer.

Ea just needs to eat some humble pie.

being a PC gamer as well, what EA did with SimCity was a huge slap in the face. Got my money back already and will get the game again by another means... I have a feeling eventually everything is going to catch up to them and that ship will sink.

That was actually so bad, it's shocking.

When you build core features into your game, gamers are supposed to actually be able to use them.

Ea forgot the gamers are their bosses. Gamers write their checks. When they pull crap like that, they are showing that they just don't get it.

A company that starts getting out of touch like EA is, is a company that may not be around for the long haul.

I've never understood the anti-EA sentiment that has grown over the years. I've appreciated their business acumen, the games they've published, etc.

But these days, they are getting out of hand. Like the owner died and left the company to his son in law or something...

#180728 Loving the Wii U

Posted by Socalmuscle on 08 March 2013 - 04:19 PM

I like the Wii U too. It is nifty.

In fact, I think Nintendo should use that word as the marketing tagline.

Wii U

It's Nifty.

#180356 is it true the wii u will be destroyed by ps4?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 07 March 2013 - 03:07 PM

you guys should visit the sony forums and teach the sonydrones about specs i did not know the ps4 was really that weak lol

It's not so much that the PS4 is weak.  It isn't.

But the Wii U is a lot more powerful than haters want to admit.  There are the ubiquitous anonymous indie iPhone developers saying things that cannot be sourced and then there are actual AAA console developers singing the Wii U praises.  And then there is Eurogamer misquoting and mistranslating interviews to swing against the Wii U (and barely retracting when the developers they misquote bash them in social media over it)..  Not even mentioning the whole Jonathan Blow foot-in-mouth syndrome. LOL. Plus they are all going off of info given about alpha dev kits that existed simply to make ports easy at first. People working on final hardware with an understanding of the new arcdhitecture seem extremely surprised by how easy it is to make amazing visuals in Wii U.

The Wii U has a very nice CPU with tons of cache, a GPU that seems to be greatly enhanced, and a pretty sweet RAM setup, all tightly integrated.

You may see more loading in Wii U, but the actual graphical representation on the screen will not vary much.

#179989 Miyamoto ready for his retirement

Posted by Socalmuscle on 06 March 2013 - 03:06 PM

So I take it you don't want Bill to be CEO?

uh...

NO.

but, he can keep his current job and translate for the younger Japanese engineers who are telling the board "MORE POWER!" LOL

i love the man, but its about time, he has made a few bad choices the past few years, and imo, he is holding nintendo back at this point

yes.

If you think about it, he was once the young, quirky genius.  the epitome of "new school" in gaming.

He pushed the envelope with early donkey Kong, Mario and Zelda.  then on to technically ahead of its time Star Fox.  then showed the world how to make a truly 3D game with polish in Mario 64.

But New School always grows up and becomes old school.

and Miyamoto has been old school for a while now.

Time for some freshness.  And that is why he is doing what he is right now.

Time to create and push the envelope again.

#179947 Miyamoto ready for his retirement

Posted by Socalmuscle on 06 March 2013 - 01:37 PM

He isn't retiring soon.

Just being wise about the fact he is turning 61.

here is a summary based on His own quoted in that article.

“This year I’m past 60; I’m going to be turning 61 this year. So for me to not be thinking about retirement would be strange,” Miyamoto said to GameSpot. “But in fact, the number of projects I’m involved in–and the volume of my work–hasn’t changed at all.”

“And this actually has nothing to do with any kind of retirement planning or anything of that sort..."

He is just trying to groom the younger guys to be leaders and move the company on right now, so that when he is gone, it will be a natural next step.

And that kind of forward thinking is just one of the reasons Nintendo has been so successful for such an amazingly long time.

#179751 Minecraft on PS3 "possible" on Wii U "unlikely"

Posted by Socalmuscle on 05 March 2013 - 11:21 PM

I can't lie I'm disappointed, this game looked like it would have fit the Wii U pertectly.

It would.

Developers making shady back room deals are shooting themselves in the foot. Not to mention short-changing us as gamers.

Wii u is perfect for many things. This is one of them.

Games like Crysis 3 as well. And now that we know Crytek had Crysis running perfectly on wii u, we know the platform isn't the issue. It's the publishers. Agendas and back room deals.
Those things killed sets hardware. But Nintendo is a different animal.

Nintendo has bent over backward for third parties. Provided non-competitive strategic timing, extra development support, favorable licensing, the works.

If a third party does not view Nintendo favorably, there is something else happening. It's called politics.

#179314 Shenmue 3 rumored to be coming through kickstarter.

Posted by Socalmuscle on 05 March 2013 - 12:13 AM

Shenmue was the first game of its kind. And awesome as well. So long as they get rid of the QTEs, it would do well with an update.

Of course it seems dated. It's old.

But a new, modern Shenmue would be great.

Doesn't mean they decide how much effort Criterion Games is willing to put into it, which was the point I was making.

Good point.

#178465 Nintendo and Crytek... could it work?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 02 March 2013 - 10:27 PM

I think more then anything mention here, if consoles can support where crytek are heading. FTP (eg: warface) with integrated social features like gface. Will Nintendo let that be on the console (you load up gface then the game you want to play). If it was just licensing they wouldn't really be in talks, they would just agree on the licensing fees and condition's then use cryengine 3. I and anyone who can download around 1gb  can download and use the engine legally for free for example, its only costs you if you want to make sell what you make.

Sorry, the WiiU will not be able to run what Crysis 3 looks like at 1080p (or higher) at 60fps (or higher), therefore it will no look like it does on pc. If you don't believe me, thaty is what Cevat has said it is impossible  the CEO of the company who also is the director for the Crysis games.

Interesting.

I seem to remember him saying a game was running in cryengine 3 on wii u looking great back before e3 2012. Abd that game had to have started on some pretty early hardware.

As far as crysis 3 on wii u at 1080p. No problem.

Heck even last years rumors had Wii u running one level in crysis 3 at with features at ultra settings. Lol.

But they aren't sure they can justify development costs for wii u yet.

#178439 Nintendo and Crytek... could it work?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 02 March 2013 - 09:32 PM

Nintendo and crytek. It already does work.

And the wii u can make cryengine look like it does on pc, not the watered down ps3 games.

Never heard the term nevropost before. But I like it. Lol.

It's going into my permanent online vocab now.

#178314 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 02 March 2013 - 12:58 PM

1) The Wii U is not competing with pc graphics settings on low. Just because it its able to surpass current gen systems does not mean it is going to compete with this next gen.

Overall it really doesn't matter to me. 2) My Wii U will be for 1st party games and the soon to be very rare exclusive.

3) As a community we just need to realize the Wii U is going to be a niche system and not embraced by major publishers. No big deal. It fills its need and no more.

1) No it certainly is not competing with Pc textures on "low." It is competing with PC textures period. As Wii u games can be rendered in 1080P, that is what we expect.  And that is all there is to expect from PS4 as well.

2) Then you are going to miss out on the gameplay superiority the gamepad enables in third party games.  But that's your own personal desire and your own perogative.  It is a free country after all.

3) As a community, we have been wanting a Nintendo console that has the potential to be our only console if need be.  and Nintendo has finally provided that.  At this point it is up to third parties to uphold their end of the bargain.  It isn't a niche system. It is a next gen system perfect for third party games as well as Nintendo's own excellent offerings. And while it is probably a good thing you don't speak for the "community," you are, as always, free to speak for yourself.
