#188474 Wii U OS future capabilities

Posted by Penguin101 on 31 March 2013 - 02:19 AM

As I keep saying, I can't wait to see what the OS looks like in 5 years time, just look at how the 360's OS changed over the years.

This is why we invent time travel....Not to save the world, to see Wii U's OS in 5 years :P

I honestly thing the next Nintendo console will probably just continue using the Wii U's OS, saves time and effort redesigning something that by the time the Wii U gets to retiring age will be pretty much perfect.

Zelda, because he's an Italian Plumber who flaunts it around Shadow Moses Island in the Batmobile

#188188 I'd like to say something If I may

Nintendofan, Sonyfan, Microfan, PC fan, Android Fan, iFan

It doesn't matter. Each platform has some wonderful games, don't be shy of other platforms because you grew up with a certain one. Each has something wonderful to bring to the table. None should be shunning each other about who's got the best platform, each in their own way are amazing and bring us joy in different and unique ways.

No-one should want to see any of these platforms die out, even in competition they aid each other into reaching excellence, some by taking risks, others by improving on other's ideas. For the industry to survive we must support our brother's and sisters uniting under one gaming flag, go forth and enjoy ourselves!

Ok that felt good saying all that....Phew.

#188083 Wii U OS future capabilities

Posted by Penguin101 on 30 March 2013 - 03:34 AM

So everyone is worrying that the Wii U wont be able to do any extra cool stuff as far as multi tasking etc. But let us remember there's a whole gig dedicated to this OS.

Now it's my belief that the OS itself is a maximum of 250MB of RAM with a whole 750MB left over. My reasoning is that Windows 7 on my machine only has 250MB reserved for the OS and that's a far beefier system.

I'm still convinced that 750MB is  reserved so more things for the OS including second gamepad usage (remember when the devs were talking about 500mb when second gamepad usage wasn't on the cards?)

I'm almost convinced that there will be some really cool upgrades to the OS further down the line including the ability to browse the web/load Nintendo Tvii/Access (it's streaming video how hard can that be?). Launch eShop and download a game (if the game being played is via optical disc think it'd be harder to do when playing a game off the HDD, but who knows), and access Notifications all on the second gamepad. I honestly think that a sleep mode could be implemented, as even the 3DS has the ability of a sleep mode. We're already seeing leaps in Miiverse, so my outlook for the Nintendo OS is really bright, and one day Nintendo may even launch its own cloud servers for backup, or even one day cloud gaming (which I hate but it seems to be going that way by 2020), I even adding eye-tracking software and hardware peripherals in the future would be amazing, and I'm sure fully possible with 1GB of RAM and some R&D

How much RAM do you think the OS actually takes up? how much RAM do you think is left over? What cool features do you want to see apart from Achievements and Crosschat (because that's a no brainer, why else would you put a damn microphone and a chat app on there if cross chat couldn't be run as standard from there?!)

#187724 Wii U won't be getting Unreal Engine 4

Posted by Penguin101 on 29 March 2013 - 11:05 AM

Considering the art talent they have at Retro and other studios, it would probably look better, not technically, but artistically.

I can imagine the last game at E3 *silence on the floor, the lights dim down*

......

*Bass hum as the Nintendo logo comes up followed by Retro's then Unreal 4's Logo*

Gasps fill the room.

*The bass hum turns into the rumble of Samus' ship in beautiful Unreal 4 detail......*

Epic CEO's face goes bright red

I really hope a third party uses Unreal 4 on Wii U just to shut Epic's faces up.

#186757 Battlefield 4 confirmed not coming to Wii U.

Posted by Penguin101 on 27 March 2013 - 05:40 AM

I love when someone cannot refute facts, they act like a 5 year old and call someone a troll.

The point is... 3rd party developers skipping the Wii U is going to happen much more as they start to cater to more powerful systems. This wouldn't be shocking a year or 2 from now when the 720 / PS4 are out, but what IS shocking is how DICE is developing Battlefield 4 for the 360/PS3 and NOT Wii U.

This is a slap in the face of Nintendo that bascially says "You are not worth the time and effort"

Sad.

When you've done nothing but post topics which have nothing to contribute to the conversation apart from spit out repeated non-researched points you kinda do sound liek a troll. When you start posting nothing but negative comments with such a low post count, yes that sounds like a troll.

The Wii U has outsold previous HD consoles when they were released and that's with the universe's worst marketing campaign at hand. Its specs are able to pump out PC spec textures and effects which the 360 couldn't dream of, analysys on the CPU and GPU reveal it to be very powerful for the clock speeds involved, especially the GPU, which by the architecture can deal with Next Gen visuals at least at 720p, again something that a few next gen games will be using namely Battlefield 4 for PS4/720 for one, and yes I do appreciate the irony that Wii U wont be getting it. The install base is huge for a console that didn't have the best of launches as far as software titles, and piss poor marketing

Sony and Microsoft have both already copied Nintendo's ideas on both a touch screen input and social gaming. So I don't think THEY think kit's a stupid idea.

Most if not all of the games you've mentioned were in development before the Wii U dev kits were finished, therefore there was no point in slowing down development. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. EA are also causing trouble to to a deal gone sour, something which in all honesty was EA's greed being the problem, not Nintendo.

#186733 Battlefield 4 confirmed not coming to Wii U.

Posted by Penguin101 on 27 March 2013 - 05:05 AM

I think business wise it's safe to say that it is a risk.

15% of people play COD BLOPS2 on the 360. It's actually a ridiculously low amount. 5% of Wii U owners played COD BLOPS2. With such a small install base so far it'd be much more better to get 5% - 15% of 10 million+ rather than 4 million.

However if they had faith like Ubisoft they'd actually see that they'd help increase and solidify the install-base to get more money for future titles

#186730 Battlefield 4 confirmed not coming to Wii U.

Posted by Penguin101 on 27 March 2013 - 05:01 AM

Large console games are already skipping the Wii U in favor of LAST gen systems? Haha... wow. I thought the Wii U was going to attract 3rd party titles? If the Wii U is getting passed over now, imagine what will happen when the 720 / PS4 hit their strides next year.

The Nintendolts can blame "Lazy developers" all you want... but the facts are this:

Poor install base

Poor CPU/GPU specs

Gimmicky controller that deters from enjoyment instead of adding to it.

RIP Nintendo.

Poor troll can't troll properly

I never really felt itchy once I grew it all out, now it just feels like Bruce Lee-Lumberjack-Unicorns are hugging my face, keeping it protected and warm

#184450 Will PS4 be 1080p only?

Posted by Penguin101 on 20 March 2013 - 03:02 AM

It should mostly be 720p and 1080p, it would be rather stupid if it was 1080p only I think.

I think it'll support 720p, but Sony will probably want all of their titles to be 1080p it's natural for Sony to want to have their next gen games to be 1080p. I myself personally don't give a **** but hey, I understand when they're trying to show off that their console is more powerful that they expect all the games that come out to be 1080p only

#184440 iwata seriously needs to step down

Posted by Penguin101 on 20 March 2013 - 02:35 AM

Kingdomcode, I've briefly looked through your posts and usually it's nothing but bashing the system and the company, something tells me you're either 1) A Troll, or (2) Paid by Sony or Microsoft to post in forums professionally. If you're being paid, you're not doing a good job. I've was paid during my Uni days by Eidos to monitor forums and get market research on what gamers wanted as well as bash other rival games, and you're not being subtle enough. It's an art I tell you.

#184124 Your favorite Nintendo RPG?

Posted by Penguin101 on 19 March 2013 - 07:04 AM

NOT gonna vote until you put up The Legend of Zelda

I always thought Zelda was an RPG, until a Zelda fanboy almost strangled me to death crying out it was an adventure game. So to protect myself and all i hold dear I'm going to say it's an Adventure game with RPG elements, or springing from the classic tabletop RPG :P
