#212590 Wii U for young kids?

Posted by Lupaie on 29 May 2013 - 12:42 AM

Thanks for your input, everyone. It really is much appreciated. I think I'll go ahead and buy one. However, my conclusion, after reading your posts is that, Wii U is no different from other consoles in that it is a "passive" gameplay. It seems that, in order to get the more active gameplay I'm looking for, I will have to make use of the regular Wii part of the console. I guess that is not a problem, other than there will be no new titles in the "get-off-the -couch-if-you-wanna-play" department.

Anyway, thanks again for all your input - both with, and without "attitude". ;-)

Cheers, Cargodogs...

It is still very early in the WiiU lifecycle thus I can only imagine that more active orientated games will be announced. But indeed, you can use older Wii games too so it is a win-win situation. Looking at the other consoles....they will be more adult orientated than Nintendo.

#212565 My handheld gaming dilemma

Posted by Lupaie on 28 May 2013 - 09:55 PM

I think my kids are lucky that I'm that deep into gaming. My boy(4) played monsterhunter yesterday. I didn't even notice it. Then I logged into his WiiU profile and looked at the Diary and saw that he has played for almost 8 hours....during two weeks. The little basterd!

#210316 Why I'm happy with Nintendo

Posted by Lupaie on 23 May 2013 - 03:49 AM

Seeing the PS4 and Xbox One announcements reassured me that I made a decent choice with the Nintendo WiiU. I'm not really a loyal customer for either Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft. Switching from one console to another kept things fresh for me. I switched from Sega Megadrive to Nintendo64, N64 to PS2, from PS2 to X360 and now back to Nintendo. I had a Gamecube and Wii too but didn't use them as main station, resulting in only a handful of games.

Seeing that Nintendo will deliver some big games and already owning some really fun titles, combined with the potential back catalogue of the Virtual Console, I have no doubt that I will have to choose wisely when purchasing software.

The Xbox One has no focus and one of the selling points for me would have been backwards compatibility. Foreseeing that the 360 could die on me within years, months or days and that it still has so many games left that I haven't played would have been a selling point. Next to that it would mean less cluttering in my tv cabinet. Why would I stick with MS? I played all big titles, Mass Effect, Halo, Gears and Forza...and being awesome at first (especially since I had to miss some exclusive titles in the previous generation) they became more than dull at their 3rd iteration within 1 generation. Somehow Nintendo always seems to keep things fresher, same IP, different experience. And with all GFX focus...I'm just happy with what the WiiU can do, wasn't that impressed with the generational leap MS or Sony showcased.

The PS4 seams more creative but lacks the sheer amount of creativity the Nintendo Studios have. But all consoles, even Nintendo don't support Europe with all their TV options. When looking at that Wii TVii is so small I wouldn't even use it. But with the One, it's like their whole system is build around TV experience, and we will mis most of that.

I play a lot OffTV and only PS4 supports that....but I'll have to buy a Vita too. Add that to the price of the PS4 and it's will start to sound ridiculously next to the price of the WiiU.

The 3rd party studios like EA and Activision really have no clue. They where betting that PS4 and Xbox One would blow the fish out of the water...but they didn't. By the time either the Xbox or PS4 will be on the shelves Nintendo will have their 2nd wave of games shipping. I think that is what E3 will be about. MS and Sony will all be about trailers and maybe in game shots of games that still have to live up to the hype these trailers will create (remember Vita). But Nintendo's will be about Experiencing the games...playing them. Isn't that the reason why we loving gaming so much? I'm sure MS will show a next Halo, Sony another God of War, Epic another Gears...EA some more of the same sports games. When looking at the WiiU, I think Ubisoft will be a more creative studio than most others.

Apart from that the WiiU will have its second christmas this year and I've already seen systems being sold for 250 or less. So by december I can only imagine that being even lower. Compare that to the prices of Sony and MS, I really can't imagine them being 399,00 or less.

I'm looking forward to E3!

As dvl666 said, it is kind of love it or hate it.  Most people who give the game a chance and invest good number of hours before making their decision love it though.  I can't think of a single game with better replay value and multiplayer, while still having strong dynamic gameplay that rewards experience and preparedness.

I suppose the best way to find out if you like it would be to rent it or borrow it from a friend.  Also, should you start it, do some reading.  While the npc's tell you a lot, it won't really click til you have experience.  Looking up videos on youtube, I recommend ProJared or socialdissonance, or asking here or going to the help thread I started (http://thewiiu.com/t...te-help-thread/) as good starting points for information.  Lastly, google is your friend.  If you need to find a material, say iron ore, googling "mh3u iron ore" will give you the answer instantly.  You can also ask miiverse, there's always a number of veterans on hand there to answer questions.

On an unrelated note, I finally got around to making some sword and shields.  They were my secondary weapon back in tri, and it feels good to be using them again.

At least watch the 3 Projared Youtube Tutorials. He explains it mighty well

#203263 Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbo's Wand!

Posted by Lupaie on 03 May 2013 - 01:45 AM

Hi people,

I just have to ventilate this. I shouldn't be bothered but actually...I am. Back in 2008 I created a tribute to Rare's Banjo-Kazooie. The series was almost 10 years old and during the creation of the project Nuts and Bolts was announced. I really tried to find an original angle to the story and thought that telling the story through the eyes of Mumbo's Wand would be an original take on it.

5 years further down the line, the film still is good for asking the question if Rare's new vision on Banjo was right or not.

Last week I found out that another fangroup is creating a fan created piece of software too....and they also call it 'Mumbo's Wand"....how original is that? (link to their site)

Actually when I started digging I saw that other forumusers complained about this fact, but the creators still hold on to the name. It's such a shame because there are so many options to choose from, but hey.

I know it's only about something I was fan of, and life goes on. But I spend 6 months on that project and its originality. I got a lot of reactions from Rare and got invited to visit their studios too. But still...

Well, A friend of mine posted this story today on his website.

#198608 Cheesy Home Shopping Video Quest

Posted by Lupaie on 23 April 2013 - 04:03 AM

I need help. Seriously. My collegue is turning 50 in a few weeks and we want to punish him with a video.
He is my boss, in fact, and as Senior Marketeer he thinks he can sell anything.

I'm no fool, and can Photoshop and video edit like a pro....wait, wasn't that in my job discription?

We want to take an excisting cheesy Home Shopping movie and do a new voice over with all kind of facts about my collegue. There needs to be a PRESENTOR on screen so I can replace the faces with strange animated pictures of my collegue. If possible, pls sport or health related.

Sooooo....Is there anybody who would like to help me find an original film which would be right for this purpose?

#198114 New Wii U Ads

I can see my supplied video (see below) as the template. Change the audience to gamers with guns and uniforms....keep the dark ambience. When the hammer hits the screen, simple pop up some bright Nintendo imagery of Mario, Pikmin, Zelda.

Totally hooked on mh3, I ask myself...do you think mh4 which is announced for 3ds only...will make a port to wiiU too? Mh3 did the groundwork and Capcom could foresee a WiiU version while still in development and as such create higher polygon invironment, characters and higher tecture qualities.
