#309884 Wii U Zelda Map Analysis

Posted by grahamf on 01 March 2015 - 09:28 AM

Yeah it will be incredibly interesting to see if they implement large towns/hamlets in the game.   I'm hoping for a very large castle town and then a few hylian villages, a few human villages, and then a large town for each of the other races such as the gerudo, zora, and goron.  Also, I can't wait to see what the lost woods looks like in this game!

I think the Gorons and the Zora will be in more of cave complexes than villages.

And it would be horsing awesome if the lost woods was procedurally generated, so if you even turn around you find yourself in a different area.

#309639 Playtonic working on Banjo Kazooie spiritual successor (mentions Wii U)

Posted by NintendoReport on 25 February 2015 - 01:15 PM

If you’ve been following the news lately, you know that PlayTonic Games is a studio made up of former Rare developers that worked on some of the biggest franchises in the game industry, including Donkey Kong and Banjo-Kazooie. For a few weeks now the team has been teasing the rebirth of the 3D platformer and a successor to the Banjo-Kazooie franchise. Now the team will finally unveil what they’ve been working on at EGX Rezzed on March 12.

Creative director Gavin Prince had this to say about the upcoming reveal:

“It was the fans of our past work who inspired the creation of Playtonic, so we’re delighted to be able to showcase our vision to them in person at EGX Rezzed – as well as a few cheeky details of our game!â€

The Famicom version of the original Legend of Zelda actually had better sound quality than on the NES, due to the Famicom having an extra sound channel.

#309457 Haldo

(For the 0.5% percent of you that understand what "haldo" references, you rule)

Hey folks. I randomly decided to try and find some kind of community to join, and happened to stumble upon this one. It's been a long time since I have used a message board like this, but hopefully I'll get back in the swing of things!

Anywho, if you want to know a little about me, I'm a fan of Zelda, Donkey Kong Country, and really just platformers in general. I actually grew up with the PS1/PS2, but in recent years I've become more of a Nintendo guy after getting the Wii. Unfortunately, I missed out on a lot of the 64 and GameCube stuff, but I've been slowly going back and checking them out.

Outside of games, I'm also an animator currently working toward getting into art school. I'd post some of my work, but I'm pretty sure that's against the rules so I'll play it safe.

I've gone on long enough now, excited to get going here.  :)

I would never have noticed they changed it with wind waker. You got any comparison shots or anything that demonstrate the difference?

Good points.

But honestly, I feel Nintendo can eliminate a ton of this crap by simply marketing their games effectively. putting out high quality screenshots and videos all over the web (YouTube, create and send to ign etc...).

With X especially, unless you already own a wii u it was nigh impossible to see a good look at the footage.

If you see the YouTube videos, the "screenshots" all over the web, etc., they all look incredibly muddy, washed out, etc.

Then... You see the "direct" that moment Monolith put out and it's like "what the ohmygoshijustvomitedthewheatiesiateforbreakfastbevausethislookssofreakingamazing!"

It looks nearly like a different game because the difference between conpressed, decompressed, and decompressed again by the time it shows up anywhere. Then that crappy conpressed video gets a screen grab taken and compressed again into an even more crappy conpressed JPEG.

It actually makes me a little angry as this would be so freaking easy to fix by sending press kits with high quality screens and videos to the major players. And it would cost nearly nothing.

And the stinking media sites KNOW THIS. and they choose to use junk screens of junk videos.

When I show people the latest gameplay and tutorial video they unanimously freak out and have to have it.

Before then, they've heard of it a bit and weren't impressed.

It's all in the presentation.

Come on Nintendo.

Yes, we appreciate that you are focused on the GAME, not on swindling people out of their hard earned money.

But dadburnit, get with the program and have one or two people focus on marketing it right and leaving the industry with a proper high impression of the game.

Of course the media knows what they are doing to this game. They arent covering this game, because they are paid pr mouthpeices for AAAAAAA publishers. Nintendo refuses to play their reindeer games, so they give them gimped coverage, and the anti nintendo 'nintendo is backwards' narrative, because AAAAAAAA publishers want to make sure you know games that work the way they are advertised, work the moment you buy them and put in the disc, come complete for the buying price, instead of half a game for full price with a season pass sold seperately to get the whole game, is backwards because it doesnt have arbritrary feature that is nowhere near the big deal people have been brainwashed into thinking it is.

Voice chat is a nice feature. It is NOT a necessity for a game to not be worthless crap. The game actually WORKING when you put the disc in the machine, IS. But dont tell that to the media, thats not the picture their AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA retainers want to paint.

. There is no longer an enthusiest press for videogames, only extended pr mouthpeices.

Besides, there is no amount of advertising than cut through an entire generation of publisher media brainwashing.

People who are saying this:

Does more, and looks better, than this:

Are beyond the ability to objectively assess reality.

Don't know. Trailers all been 60FPS. However in RPG's like this doesn't matter as much.

Have to be honest. The trailers look way too smooth for that kind of detail in s game.

I'm expecting 30fps which itself will be great. If somehow 60 then they will literally have outdone themselves manifold times.

I love Darksiders too. Heavily underappreciated series. Look at the Darksiders 2 sales on Wii U, they're abysmal.

WWHD didn't make a lot of sense when announced or when released other than Nintendo going into the remaster phase everyone else is. WW is easy to call a port and while done quick was sorta a remake. Kinda. The game made a lot more sense when Zelda U was revealed for Wii U.  From the cel shading style to where he explains in E3 that every point in the world has a defined entrance and exit in WW but tried to convey a open world. Zelda U has no defined entrance. You can approach a problem or area many different ways. WWHD sorta test run, rehearsal developing on Wii U.
