#150004 Wii U Pro Controller disapointment, needs a fix!

Posted by BobbyRiddle on 20 December 2012 - 10:45 AM

Wiimotes are like $20 now. Pro Controllers are closer to $50.

What was the logic train here again?

I'll give you my logic on this one.  I was planning on selling my Wii with several games and two Wiimotes/nunchuks as a package.  Well guess what?  I get home with my Wii U bundle which included a pro controller, pop in Mario and expect to play some co-op with my GF with my pro controller and gamepad, and then realize that Nintendo's NEW peripherals are not compatible with their NEW version of Mario.  Now I must keep my Wiimotes in order to play my favorite mode in Mario.  You can sugar coat it all you want, but that is beyond dumb on Nintendo's part.

Nano Assault Neo is not terrible.

I mean just give me a break.  The gamepad is what distinguishes the WiiU, but that doesn't mean the game cannot still be played using the gamepad or pro controller.  This is pretty much a diss.

I'm not even going to attempt to read that wall of text. If you had taken the time and made the effort to present your post so that it was actually readable I would have. Suffice to say I still stand by what I posted earlier. There are way to many people out their who don't realise that reviews are just personal opinions. You don't have to agree with them but that doesn't mean you make such ridiculous statements that lack any credibility.

The game was given a 6.3 which is defined as "mediocre."  However, after building the game up in previews, and then giving it that score that is in fact a "trashing."  I'm not really sure how that is a statement lacking credibility.  It is one person's opinion, but that person represents a powerful video game review site.  Btw man there is really no need to be so damned smug.  I'm not sure how you would have had me write my post, and I wasn't aware that I was being graded on it.  Next time I'll change the fonts to big block letters so that you are able to read it better

They didn't thrash anything. It was one persons opinion on the game. What makes you think everyone out there should have the same opinion and/or like every single game. Do you expect everyone to agree with you. also if i remember correctly the previews were done by a different editor. Not to mention that most if not all the other IGN editors liked the game. If you don't agree then fine but that doesn't mean you have to say they thrashed it in the review.

Oh no there were several things that stand out about that situation, and I could care less if IGN has the same opinion as me about that game.  First, IGN does have a very bad habit of pumping games up and even going as far as to call them killer apps....then their review contradicts the excitement of their previews.  I get that other IGN editors besides Greg enjoyed the game, but my response is then why give the game to Greg to review.  I don't think that Greg can be taken seriously anymore as an unbiased reviewer, and that is exactly what a game like ZombiU deserved.  Greg is the same guy that gave Uncharted 3 a straight up 10, and I think it was clear in his review that ZombiU is not his type of game.  He wanted to be able to run and gun like Left for Dead and that is simply not how that game is played.  I also got the distinct impression that Greg never finished the game from the wording of his review.  Lastly, I also get that this is one man's review, but that one man is representing a game site that has a ton of pull in the industry.  It is pretty bad when your reviewer gives a game a 6.3, and from that day forward your site is continuing to give a game that you define as "totally mediocre" a ton of coverage.  Sorry but when you see the incredible amount of love that the Miiverse community gives this game sites like IGN, Gamespot, and EGM should be embarrassed.  At the least I think the game deserves "second opinion" reviews from those sites.

#147540 Zombie U Two, What would you add/change to the Game ?

Posted by BobbyRiddle on 13 December 2012 - 09:12 AM

I would like to see more variety in the way different survivors perform based on their walk of life.  For instance the cop should be a much better shot than the accountant.  There should be a fat slob that doesn't excel at anything or an athlete that can run faster and has better endurance than the others.  They could get really creative with their characters and we would be more invested in them.  Also, there should be more weapons, but not necessarily traditional ones.  You should be able to pick up things like screwdrivers or garden tools and use them as melee weapons if you want.

#144547 Just sold my Wii U!

Posted by BobbyRiddle on 06 December 2012 - 10:24 AM

I cancelled my preorder just for this reason. No one here will agree with you, all you are going to hear is "Wow, you sold it, you'll regret it.", but I understand exactly why, just like you the only reason I bought my 3DS is for Animal Crossing, where is it? Oh yeah, 2 years about and still nothing. Wii U at this point is a waste, I'd rather wait to MAYBE get it later once solid games come out.

Nah I think most people here don't understand why he bought it in the first place or why he would post it here.

I think Far Cry 3 is the overall best game of the year.

Wii U - ZombiU

Xbox 360 - Halo 4

PS3 - Far Cry 3

PS Vita - Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Yes indeed.  I ended up in Gamestop after work last night and impulse bought Far Cry 3.  After like 4 hours with it last night I can easily say that game is going to end up trumping everything on my list.  How that game was not on my radar I will never know.  I did not even get around to MP or Co-op.  it reminds me of a cross between AC 3, Dead Island, and Borderlands but better than all 3.

3DS-
Kid Icarus: Uprising

I forgot about that one.  That and Ragnarok Odyssey on Vita are my favorite handheld games of the year.

Just because the Nintendo Direct didn't reveal anything doesn't mean there aren't big games coming. Not everything gets announced early and Nintendo in particular have a tendency to keep things secret until nearer the time of release. In general they aren't typically very forthcoming about information on upcoming releases. I suspect there will be more announced in the months to come. I suspect Nintendo is giving third parties a chance to release their games without stiff completion from AAA first party titles and to try and gain as much support from as possible.

Well put and I'll add one more point.  The console has already gotten some pretty serious mature 3rd party games, and I really feel like that is gravy.  Everybody that has owned Nintendo consoles in the past knows that it is very possible that they will be playing the waiting game for all of the AAA Nintendo franchises to drop.  The only Nintendo title that really borders on cookie cutter and rushed nowadays is the New Super Mario Brothers series, and we got one for launch.  Nintendo will delay a product in order to make it epic, and if someone doesn't know that then they don't know Nintendo.

Dude posts like this just piss people off on a site like this, so I'm not sure what the point was.  As far as your decision goes to purchase one in the first place it sounds like it was beyond uninformed.  You knew what games were announced for launch, and you knew what games were announced for the launch window.  The only one to get bumped so far is Pikmin, and the fact is if you don't want to see that great game get all the polish that it needs in order to be a AAA title then you are foolish.  It's been over 10 years since Pikmin 2 came out, and the series DESERVES that extra time.  you already have two other consoles to keep you busy during the post launch wait for Wii U games, so just do what I have done.....shuddup and play ZombiU, NSMBU, BLOPS 2, Halo 4, and Far Cry 3.

#144146 12-5-12 NoA/NoE Nintendo Direct Discussion topic

Posted by BobbyRiddle on 05 December 2012 - 12:58 PM

Speaking for myself, I don't think I "hyped myself" into anything, and I'm certainly not losing sleep over the lack of an announcement concerning some solid gold Wii U or priceless game.  But I don't think there's anything wrong with being disappointed in the lack of at least something INTERESTING being announced.  Nintendo themselves hyped people into watching this announcement, through Twitter and Facebook and whatever other method they used.  I think I even got an email from them about it.  They said nothing that wasn't already known and gave no hard release dates for the games they DID mention.  As I said, nothing that couldn't have been slapped on the Nintendo homepage without so much fanfare.

I'm with you there.....a couple solid release dates would have been nice instead of this "window" BS.  I also think it would have been nice of them to at least give some more detail about the update.  So many people have complained about the speed issue within the menus and Miiverse that it would have been nice if they gave some idea of when that would be fixed.

#135518 US buddies who games have you got and so far, what would your rate them?

Posted by BobbyRiddle on 21 November 2012 - 12:58 PM

ZombiU-9/10 because it is so unique and the mood that it sets is just unprecedented in a survival horror game.

NSMBU-8.5/10 because it looks so awesome in HD and the levels are brilliantly designed.  I docked 1/2 a point because I think that it sucks that you cannot use the gamepad for Coop in the campaign.

Nano Assault Neo-9/10 because it actually rivals the best twin stick shooter of all time(Super Stardust)

BLOPS 2-8/10 because it is a great game that fails to reinvent the wheel

I also have Nintendoland and Chasing Aurora, but haven't really scratched the surface yet.

#134763 Has anyone tried any of the indie titles?

Posted by BobbyRiddle on 20 November 2012 - 01:18 PM

From watching the extensive Wii U live stream on IGN yesterday Little Inferno looks very boring and doesn't seem to have a lot of depth.

Yeah I decided against that one when I read that it was made by the World of Goo developer....I hate that game.

#129785 What do we do while waiting for the latest IGN reviews?

Posted by BobbyRiddle on 15 November 2012 - 06:02 AM

Well i have Nintendoland as a pack in so I'm stuck with that one no matter what.  I also have NSMBU, BLOPS 2, and Zombie U preordered.  You pretty much know what you are getting with Mario...gonna be an 8/10 probably.  It is the same situation with BLOPS, but it will only be a question of whether the Wii U version is the best one.  Zombie U is the only one that I will be paying close attention to the reviews before i have the chance to pop it into the console.
