#125642 IGN posts Wii U Impressions

Posted by Zinix on 07 November 2012 - 03:54 PM

http://www.ign.com/a...ight-with-wii-u

It seems like the press has to wait just like us for the first day update, they have no access to Miiverse, the E-Shop, or the Nintendo Network. The reviewer had positive impressions of the system, which is good.

Enjoy the article!

#124536 Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U first scores

Posted by Zinix on 04 November 2012 - 07:14 PM

Nintendo Land

- “…Luigi’s Haunted Mansion, Animal Crossing Sweet Day and Mario Chase offer up some of the most innovative, raucous and party-fueling fun we’ve ever had with a console”
- Plaza is filled with all things Nintendo
- There’s menu music for each attraction that bleeps out in NES chimes
- Monita, the floating computer, guides you around the park’s features
- Spend winnings on pachinko-esque coin game
- Win a jukebox, day/night cycle button, and more
- Miis from your console and other consoles through the Internet
- Attraction mode: set up a Nintendo Land party; choose a time limit and player count and then head to a points-based tournament of mini-games
- Multiplayer games are fun, but GamesMaster says the single-player ones are sometimes forgettable
- A few games highlight “some seemingly inherent problems”
- Ex: Takamaru’s Ninja Challenge – “constant screen misalignment”
- GamesMaster says GamePad/TV crossover usually works best when done in tandem
- “As a discerning gamer, you may not find all that Nintendo Land has to offer to your liking, but should you fork out for a Wii U, you owe it to your family, to your friends and to everyone else you know, to bag a copy of this to go with it.”
- Graphics: 90%
- Gameplay: 86%
- Accessibility: 95%
- Lifespan: 82%
- Innovation: 92%
- Overall: 86%
- “An essential purchase for party lovers that whets the Nintendo appetite. Bring friends.”

New Super Mario Bros. U

- May look the same, but there are some “incredible tweaks”
- GamesMaster feels it’s easier than NSMB Wii
- Took under seven hours to complete
- More to the game outside of the main campaign
- Most of the innovation is saved for the final levels
- “Without wishing to spoil anything, we were surprised, excited, and twinkly-eyed during an excellent finale. It’s almost as if Nintendo suddenly realised that they were in fact working with a Wii U, with a game-changing GamePad and everything.”
- Hopes Nintendo will “build on this solid, if not mind-blowing, foundation.”
- Graphics: 82%
- Gameplay: 85%
- Accessibility: 90%
- Lifespan: 80%
- Innovation: 75%
- Overall: 82%
- “A great excuse for families to gather round the TV, and an enticing glimpse of Mario’s HD future.”

Miyamoto continues to prove he's out of touch.

#124285 super smash bros 3ds/wii u canceled?

Posted by Zinix on 04 November 2012 - 11:12 AM

What?

SSBU started development in February, shortly after Kid Icarus went golden. Nintendo has always been secretive with their games, they only leak details when it's close to E3 or an important Nintendo Direct. We'll probably see a trailer next year at E3 and it'll probably be playable at E3 the following year.  That's how Smash games work, they take years to develop, Sakurai is practically a perfectionist, he wants his games to be excellent.

#124233 Wii U Web Browser Scores High In HTML5 Test

Internet Explorer and Dora are both Explorers yet it takes them twenty minutes to do a simple task.

Boo! Get this man off stage!

#124210 Miyamoto on working with hardware/software.

Posted by Zinix on 04 November 2012 - 07:36 AM

The following comes from Miyamoto...

- Miyamoto is supposed to work on software, but also works on hardware
- this happened moreso with the development of Wii and DS
- For Wii U, there was a very thin boundary between the controller and the software responsible for the hardware
- software/hardware teams worked very closely together on Wii U
- Miyamoto hopes to be still working (and alive!) at Nintendo in 10 years
- the younger teams at Nintendo are helping take some of the pressure off Miyamoto
- this helps him to focus more on the titles he's truly interested in
- right now, Miyamoto is working hard to finish Pikmin 3

I don't think Miyamoto will ever retire.

#123684 So, I E-Mailed Rockstar Support On GTA V For Wii U

Posted by Zinix on 02 November 2012 - 07:05 AM

Probably because that wasn't a real GTA game that people wanted.......

The DS couldn't handle a real GTA game, it had ancient technology.  It was hardly stronger than the GBA.

Well it should, it's a feature of a next gen console and all.

Some people are naturally ugly, you can't help it.

#122281 Is the Wii U Really a Graphical Jump Over the PS3 & 360?

Posted by Zinix on 28 October 2012 - 04:53 PM

The Wii U is definitely much more powerful than the HD twins. Everything inside the Wii U is much newer technology, anybody who says otherwise doesn't have a clue. I guarantee you that first year Wii U games will look much better than any PS3/360 games.

#122125 New Miyamoto interview (Asturias) - on creations, Zelda by Retro, online, Miiver

Posted by Zinix on 28 October 2012 - 06:13 AM

http://www.gamereact...s 10 titulares/

- Premise: almost every Wii U user will already has Wiimote, Nunchuk and even WM+ - this gives freedom to devs. IR alternate pointing to both screens highly possible
- Miyamoto-san doesn't think they fell behind with online, but now is the right moment and you 'have' to be online with the Wii U.
- Retro qualified for Zelda game, but being in America would leave less-dependent games for them (story, design Japan-only)
- They'll encourage handwritten chatting with Miiverse
- 2 current goals are: own creation and creating teams which doesn't need him.
- iPad Mini screen size is another indication they took the right path with GamePad design

#121988 Iwata Investor Q&A summary pricing, Miiverse, innovation, friend codes , etc

Posted by Zinix on 27 October 2012 - 03:42 PM

http://www.gonintend...story&id=189037
- Nintendo Direct is watched between 600,000 and 1 million people
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf's special Nintendo Direct was watched over 1 million times on YouTube
- Iwata wanted to avoid consumers worrying about a 3DS-style price cut with the Wii U
- this had an influence on Wii U price
- the price they've gone with is to keep people from holding out and to meet customer expectations
- Iwata: If you criticize a lack of innovation over IP-heavy lineups, you're looking only at the titles and not their contents.
- Iwata: If Mario and Pokemon titles didn't innovate, those franchises would fall into ruin.
- Iwata: "If we can't provide overwhelming fun not possible with free or 85-yen games, Nintendo and consoles have no value."
- Iwata wants to explain the Miiverse in detail prior to the Wii U launching
- he wants to do this through a Nintendo Direct
- Iwata: You'll be able to become friends with others through Miiverse; increasing the number of friends to play with is its critical mission.
- It seems that Iwata might be saying that Nintendo has done away with the need for mutual friend code exchanges. Seems that you can become friends with someone instantly through Miiverse without the need of sharing friend codes. This isn't 100% confirmed yet.
- Iwata expects the 3rd-party share of software sales on the Wii U to increase earlier on than it did on the DS or for foreign pubs on Wii
- Iwata can't say exactly when Wii U will no longer be sold at a loss
- he believes that by the next fiscal year, software and hardware combined for Wii U will contribute a satisfactory profit
- Iwata and Nintendo weren't happy with how Nintendo-related information was being transmitted on the net before they even had a chance to post anything about it themselves. This is how Nintendo Direct came to be
- Nintendo Directs have had a positive effect on hardware sellthrough, rate of hardware usage and download numbers for demos and 3D videos
- Iwata: "I don't know when our fans will get bored with seeing a regular guy in his 50s talking about games over and over, but I'd like to continue doing it for as long as they enjoy watching and paying attention to Nintendo Directs."
- Doesn't believe Nintendo Directs are the be all/end all for marketing for them, but merely a new axis for it.
- Iwata feels the period post-holidays is of great importance for Wii U sales. They realize that they have had issues in the past with deploying too many titles at launch and then having nothing after. Luckily, they've been able to secure a very large number of games from western devs, so Nintendo have been able to shift some of their titles to post-holidays.
- Doesn't seem like there'll be paid DLC for Animal Crossing: New Leaf because it'd make the game be too costly.
- Won't have DLC for all games, really depends on the game.

#121872 No news?

Posted by Zinix on 27 October 2012 - 06:05 AM

We know plenty about the Wii U, we just don't know about the Nintendo Network. Nintendo probably will do a Wii U "Nintendo Direct" a week or a couple days before the Wii U launches.

#120872 Assassin's Creed 3 Wii U update

Posted by Zinix on 23 October 2012 - 04:54 PM

That's a shame, I thought that it will be more powerful.

Ports really don't take advantage of a new console's power.
