#183759 What will you do if the Wii U is Nintendo's last ever console?

NO MORE GAMING

#183519 I think the PS4 specs are a lie

Posted by GAMER1984 on 17 March 2013 - 12:16 AM

another thing to note is Xbox 720 is gonna almost mirrior Wii U in its design. that could be very good thing for Wii U in developers having no excuse for giving us next gen ports.

#183518 Why the graphical difference of Wii U to PS4/720 isn't even close to 7th gen

Posted by GAMER1984 on 17 March 2013 - 12:14 AM

No it won't.

Regardless of what third parties do, the Wii U is technically capable of putting up a great fight.

The Wii wasn't even in the same time zone compared to the PS3 and 360.  Even when Nintendo put together the absolute best graphical game for the Wii, it looked like a joke compared to what the 360 or PS3 could put out.  that's because the Wii was basically an overclocked GameCube.  It really wasn't technically competitive at all.  The PS3 and 360 stomped all over the Wii like the Incredible Hulk versus a newborn Smurf baby.

The Wii U comes out swinging.  It is technically very capable and will be playing in the same ballpark as the PS4, though the PS4 is more powerful.  Many games will look very similar.

There will inevitably be some PS4 games that outshine the Wii U, while other games will look similar if not identical on both systems.

It's more like Godzilla versus Mechagodzilla this time with the Wii U instead of Bambi versus Godzilla like it was with the Wii last time around.

Gotta love analogies...

I think there is a pretty major difference from that game and the PS3 games. Not only are the textures absolutely superb and the lighting splendid, but the polygon amount on the character is staggering.  On PS3 models, I can literally count the polygons in a rendered character.  But on this character, they really poured on the geometry.  The only places on the character where the geometry is more familiar is on the buttons/clips the character has on his sleeves and also where the straps curve. Then there is the low poly broken rebar behind him. Everything else is pretty seriously amazing.

I do really hate the mask. It is pretty stupid looking.  Like you almost want to laugh looking at it.  But I imagine that's something they have to do anyway, since it would take a lot more polygons to render a realistic looking face.  this game may be pushing the geometry as it is. Remember, this is a game with a lot going on at once.  Plenty of characters to render and some decent environments too.

but that screenshot is also a bit of a farce.

...considering it is in 4k resolution - something we know the PS4 cannot render games at.

More than a little misleading...

Not only is it part of a cutscene and not gameplay, but it has its resolution artificially bumped up quite a bit.

Sure, they may be able to get that resolution on a development station...

but let's not pass those sony press shots off as actual PS4 screens.

they're not.

yeah its funny you go on sites like Neogaf and everyone is like look they have HUDs they have to be offical. those are PC's giving us those visuals the same way the AMD 4850 gave us the visuals of the zelda 2011 HD demo and the japanese garden demo for the Wii U. but from what i understand the PS4 isnt customized at all. they are straight off the shelf PC parts where the Wii U are HIGHLY custom parts. im really excited to see what the Wii U is gonna be able to pull off in 2014 and beyond. it really is gamecube part 2... as in its going to drastically outperform what it should do. thats why nintendo could care less about releasing specs.

FU@K EA!!!!!

#179328 What are your impressions on the OS so far?

Posted by GAMER1984 on 05 March 2013 - 03:05 AM

Yes the "SLOW OS" thing has been WAY overexaggerated.  i havent been frustrated by the os not once. i believe nintendo has a plan for the OS and functionality of the console that we will have to wait and see. obviously the OS isnt in its final stage and with more optimization we will see a better result but as of right now i love the Wii U OS all together.

#178132 Ubisoft, Watchdogs, and the Wii U....

Posted by GAMER1984 on 02 March 2013 - 03:33 AM

ok to my knowledge this is one (if not) the first next gen game confimred to be coming this year. I believe Ubisoft has a chance to help sell what the Wii U could and should be this upcoming generation. this is the first game we know is using a new game engine (for next gen) and will be running on everything from the ps4 to the xbox 360. this could be the PERFECT chance for them to show what the Wii U is capable of. so here is what i think they should shoot for and if they achieve it this could be the first breakout next gen game for Wii U.

1.Take advantage of the more efficient CPU, more advanced GPU, and extra RAM to make the game look NOTICEABLY better than the ps360 version.

2. Lock the game at NATIVE 720p 60fps.

3. take advantage of the gamepad and make interesting touch controls(seriously the guy uses his phone to hack stuff) shouldn't be that hard to do.

4. gives us the OPTION of off-tv gameplay

5. Actually market the Wii U version and dont talk down about it like is a red headed step child compared to the ps4 and nextbox version.

so i dont think this is too much to ask for... is it guys? i believe if they can accomplish this it could show 3rd party developers how to treat a Wii U port and that the system is more than capable. so am i a crazy man or what? can this be accomplished?

#173750 Ps4=Wii U in graphics IMO

Posted by GAMER1984 on 20 February 2013 - 05:45 PM

Well yes in the long run ps3 is gonna show what it's capable off and so will Wii U. Today I didn't see anything mind blowing but I'm sure the fanboys will say otherwise

#171795 Watchdogs, possibly going to Wii U?

Already posted in this thread.

Not the same thing. Anyway this will be Interesting as this could be the first 3rd party title for all console. Gonna be interesting to see the visual differences. If Wii U version looks like 360 version and not like next box and ps4.... I haters are gonna be in full force.

#154006 How the Wii U will handle against the new Consoles?

Posted by GAMER1984 on 30 December 2012 - 12:15 PM

The wii u gpu is 550mhz and is on a 40 or 45Nm process, while a later architecture which may reduce load by 30% over the 360 gpu we don't know if the polygon performance is actually more, the same or less than 360. Some forum posters on neogaf claim it is less. The main advantage seems to be the 32Mb of high speed video memory which is 3x that of the 360 and makes it far easier for the wii u to do 1080p without compromise but then 1080p also requires more cpu power that the wii u doesn't have.

Some wii u games have had inferior graphics and inferior frame rates compared to current gen. Not by much admittedly.

It's pretty clear the wii u is performing at the same level as current gen consoles overall. if the wii u was significantly more powerful then multiformat games would have been superior on it, better graphics, better frame rates but the opposite appears to be true. Realistic expectations are that it performs at the same level approx as current gen models.

There is absolutely no indication at all that it can compete with the next generation of sony and microsoft consoles. It is struggling to compete with the current gen. Ok actually struggling is to strong a term but once developers are more comfortable with wii u we can expect to see games that are going to be current gen standard I guess without compromise where as currently some compromises have been done.

All I'm asking for is for logic to be applied to the situation. Wii U will easily outclass ps360. Seriously there were designed on 2005ish hardware. Now the thing I think people are getting wrong is that people defending the Wii U are saying it gonna be this monster 15x what ps360 is which we aren't. 2xish power plus modern architecture.there is a video on youtube that has the side by side of the Wii version of Modern Warefare 4 rewflex vs the xbox 360 version. Same exact game except the Wii version was FUGLY(outdate GPU architecture) it was just missing all the graphical effects of the xbox 360 version. So I laugh when people try and put down the Wii U CPU without looking at the evidence. If its so underpowered its able to run same games as xbox 360 with less development time on unfinished dev kits. Let's be serious here Wii U should be able to run anything ps4 and 720 run with optimization and a dev that wants it to run. The Wii U will be powerful enough the question is will and dev give a damn about getting the best out the system. In 2010 devs and gamers alike was saying xbox360 was done and couldn't squeeze anything better out of it. Now 2012 we get Halo4 which most have agreed Is one of if not the best looking games this generation. All about optimization and a dev who gives a damn. Also money games like Halo4 the last of us and uncharted cost between 50-100 million to make. But we see smaller dev studios like frozenbyte pull of Trine 2 which is only a fraction of the cost of those game listed. The two best technical standout titles for Wii U are Trine 2 and Nano Assault. Devs that give a damn and have an open engine that hasnt been built from ground up for xbox360.

#152734 An eye opening week with the Wii U

Posted by GAMER1984 on 27 December 2012 - 04:46 PM

I have to disagree with a couple of those points.

The Gamepad has a lot left to be desired and isn't as great as some people make it out to be. It's too cumbersome and bulky and the battery doesn't last long enough. The display is OK but it's nothing like what people make it out to be and it certainly doesn't compare to a decent flat screen TV. By Gamepad Pro I take it you mean the Pro Controller. In my opinion its far better the Gamepad overall and whilst the Gamepad has its merits and uses its not as comfortable as the pro controller especially for long periods of play.

As for the graphics on the whole they are no better then PS3 and Xbox 360 graphics . In fact some of the later games on those consoles look far bette. That's not to say the graphics on the later Wii U games won't improve and be better as they likely will. However at the moment the graphics are far from impressive with the exception being Rayman Legends which itself is a 2D game so doesn't tax the system as much.

Well I have to disagree but that's my opinion. I have really big hands the gamepad is perfect for me. I also had other players playing and we were all fighting over who would have the gamepad. It simply is amazing. Not having to look at the split screen on tv having everything right there in your hand is awesome. As far as graphics go not one game we have seen yet is using the Wii U even a little bit. All the games have been made in 6-14 months on older dev kits. People expecting anything more than what we have now are delusional. It took 360 more than a year to get GOW to show people it was REALLY capable of things original xbox wasn't. GOW was the first title to show "HD" gaming was gonna be awesome. The finny thing is people think PS360 is such superior pieces of tech when really they aren't. It easy to surpass them in tech and tahats what Wii U has done. The only thing is this isn't SD vs HD so you aren't gonna see the effect of superior tech in the first month of the console lifecycle.

#152549 An eye opening week with the Wii U

Posted by GAMER1984 on 27 December 2012 - 10:03 AM

Glad your enjoying it, I was playing Assassin's Creed III for 12 hours the other week and when I put my hand on the back of the system (as I was getting worried about the extensive game session) and it was still freezing cold, I was amazed, truly, my 360 would have blown up after 12 hours nonstop lmao. Wii U is awesome and I think the graphics are just beautiful, I can't wait for Pikmin 3 :D

Yeah this has truly been overlooked and underappreciated feature of the console. If you are giving me a console 2x more powerful than this gen plus more modern architecture only drawing that many Watts. Nintendo has made a gem of a console no matter what the other thinks. This console is pure genius.

#152406 An eye opening week with the Wii U

Posted by GAMER1984 on 26 December 2012 - 09:32 PM

Had the Wii U since launch. This past week has been the most time I've put on it(about 15-20 hours). There have been some eye opening revelation that has come from this.

GAMEPAD- its amazing plain and simple!played a LOT of multiplayer and spent half of the time arguing with otger players about who would use the gamepad. Not having to look at the TV and the visuals are so crisp. The buttons felt better than gamepad pro to me. Nintendo hit a home run with this controller.

THE CONSOLE- a lot has been made about the console size or lack thereof. In one play session I played for about 5 straight hours. I thought to myself man the sole must be burning up. I went and felt the console and it felt like it wasn't even running. Not like a hot skillet ready for a morning breakfast.

GRAPHICS- played many different games and not once did I notice any BAD graphics. Everything looked good and crisp. For launch games made in 6-14 months on not final devkits I think nintendo made a wise choice on the hardware specs also.

So yeah this was a eye opening week with the Wii U I had a blast!

#142407 Rumored xbox 720 CPU specs... 1.6GHZ

Posted by GAMER1984 on 03 December 2012 - 01:04 AM

Here are quotes from the Iwata Ask on Wii U console regarding the CPU.

"So I myself have been happy to see how far game consoles have come. I hope people will be impressed by the types of software enabled by the CPU
It turned out to be a CPU without any strange habits—one that runs just the way you expect".

Sorry if you guys don't but I have more faith in Nintendo than random Neogaf posters. Seriously they have 30 plus years. If they say the harware will be capable of runnig powerful engines and that developers have to optimized engines for the architecture I'm fine with that. I have faith in nintendo... They don't say things about harware just for PR like a sony does. I believe when next gen is over people are gonna be praising nintendo for what they created with the Wii U... Small, efficent, powerful designed machine.
