#147070 Atheism.

Posted by PedanticGamer on 12 December 2012 - 01:09 PM

I have no way of proving scientifically that there is a God... but responding to everything I say with "well you dont have an answer either" just shows you have no clue what so ever  about what your talking about...

All I can say is that it takes faith to believe in God, but it also takes faith to believe in  atheism as you also have no way of proving it... so to claim it as "scientific" is absurd

I responded to one point you made with the fact that you or anyone else doesn't have an answer regarding the origins of the universe, as you questioned another about not giving answers yet provided only questions yourself. My point is the only answers religions has is faith, that is it.As for the earth being flat that is a good point and actually shows how knowledge is always being improved (and how ridiculous it is to believe that some men tending animals thousands of years ago know more about the origins of the world etc then we do), so when science moved on and discovered truth which at this point is based on an overwhelming amount of evidence in areas such as evolution, most major religions have not.

Faith requires the suspension of critical thinking as it requires you to simply believe. Not believing in god by definition does not require faith, in fact it actually can't involve faith as faith specifically is a belief in a god or gods or the belief in the doctrine of a religion.

I know your just trying to stir controversy but when you saying things like "being an atheist requires faith", you are just being absurd (to put it nicely).

#146946 Atheism.

I found out that I was an atheist quite young, I never prayed or went to church. I just never felt a thing such as "God" could exist, it just didn't seem possible to me. Evolution makes much more sense and seems logical, in my opinion of course. None of my family members know, I keep it to myself in order to not make myself seem like an "outcast".

There is no question about evolution and no area of opinion is required, it exists and you will struggle to find a single scientist who does not agree with me there. Not accepting that evolution is real is the equivalent of not accepting that it isn't a Stork that brings baby's into the world (like in Dumbo).

More importantly in the scope of this thread though is if you are an atheist you shouldn't have to be afraid of stating as much (at least not in any western society).

You seem to missed the original purpose of this thread. The purpose of this thread was to discuss your views on atheism.  Nowhere in this thread did I state that people of different religions beliefs weren't welcome. Obviously you aren't mature enough to handle a thread such as this, because it seems the whole subject offended you. You're the only who seems to one want to get into an argument, and before you arrived nobody was fighting.

You're the source of the controversy in this thread and I wish a moderator would respect my wishes and ban you from participating here until you do a little growing up. Stop being so egotistical. Your original post came off as very arrogant and rude.

Most people who believe in a religion fall back on it's my faith as an argument and answer questions with questions as they have no answer. Which of course isn't an argument at all, rather it is a statement saying one can't logically justify there own beliefs.

Well if you at least say there is some form of god (any religion god )then that eliminates the "where did he come from", "where did we come from", "how did that god get here" questions because he is a god so he would be all powerful and have existed forever and created everything, The god isnt held to the same standards as the atoms that magically popped out of thin air and crashed into each other.

No it doesn't answer anything, it just asks another question that cannot be answered.

Also not all religions have a god that is considered to be all powerful.

Nothing like being the stereotypical atheist who avoids all the questions because he simply cannot answer them ;)

Pity you gave no answers. Just more questions.

Well, I believe when we die it's like when we're sleeping, nothing but external darkness. I respect all religion, I just don't like when it's forced down my throat.

I do not respect all religions and the very notion of respecting all religions is absurd. I however do respect peoples beliefs as one is free to believe in whatever they want to, be it God, the Spaghetti Monster or anything else.

I don't believe there is any logical way that one can be a believer of any major religion, rather a lack of logic or indoctrination is what leads to beliefs in nearly all cases. Which is the crux of faith and how the church etc justifies not having to respond to all the evidence that points to the bible etc being nothing more then a story (and one that is largely immoral, in fact to a degree that is actually sickening in many parts).

As for the above, I surely hope you don't follow most of the rules as whilst the ten commandments is mostly all well and good (albeit unnecessary), quite a large portion of the bible (I specify bible as you say you are christian) is as I stated above, immoral.

As a side note (meaning not target at anyone here) I am endlessly amused at how so many claim to be of a certain religion yet know little to nothing about that religion.

^ The above is trolling (and if you don't intend it to be I suggest writing in a different manner), and this is coming from someone who thinks both bf3 and mohw are much better games (I have yet to try out the new ghost recon and am waiting for steams summer [or winter depending on where you live] sale).

BO2 has a lot going for it, it campaign does collapse on itself around half way through. But the coop and competitive multiplayer more then make up for it (at least on pc).

with my thigh haha. i used to play gears of war semi-competively at like local tournaments and stuff

That is rather amazing. As for zombiU I don't think you will be able to play it as there is much more to it then aiming and shooting (it is more about picking your fights and inventory management which I don't think would be fun to do with one hand as the game doesn't pause when you go into your inventory).

If you don't want to be talked out of leaving then I don't think you would have posted.
