#166434 Microsoft and Sony's fate

Posted by DragonChi on 03 February 2013 - 02:07 PM

I am going to be completely honest here. Which is purely MY opinion to which you are welcome to disagree if you feel so inclined. If M$ screws up enough that their Xbox market fails, for...any number of potential reasons. I will not shed ONE tear. I firmly believe they ONLY came into the market to earn a quick buck and really don't know what they are doing in terms of the gaming industry. We are talking about a company that made it's way producing Operating Systems. That's it. They really had no place in the gaming console market to begin with.

This only comes out more given the shoddy hardware that doesn't work (Kinect), very VERY few exclusives, making you pay up the ass whenever and wherever possible, in a system that really..all it is, is a watered down PC. That gives out about half the power for the same cost as a decent budget computer. In addition to all that, they release their consoles KNOWING there are serious problems with them, BUT ships them off anyway cause..well..they have $'s in their eyes. Plain an Simple. Once they have your money, they really don't care.

Now, True, Sony DOES have a bad habit of copying its competition. However, They have provided AMAZING titles (including exclusives) and services. Ever since PS1. All things considered. They are a great company that does try there best and cares about its fans. I sincerely hope their new system is successful. I really do. I never want to lose Sony. I realize that competition is a good thing. Keeps all businesses on their toes and motivates everyone to do better than the other. M$, time and time again, show that they really only care about money, not their customers. With all the other new console entries coming this year, like the Steambox, or OUYA (which is a valid competitor, whether you think so or not) There is plenty of healthy and promising competition to go around to not need M$ anymore. That is how I feel about it anyway.

If Xbox 720 succeeds and they turn a leaf and makes their fans happy, then all the power to them. I just very much doubt that it is their mindset or goal. I am welcome to be proven wrong though. That is entirely up to them. From what I hear though, If they don't want to include a disk drive, that seems like a very backward move that I would expect them to make.

One thing is for sure though, Nintendo in this generation, especially this year, is turning into the bright and shiny, heroic White Knight riding in to save the day. With flying colors no less. They have a very bright future, as always. This year will be very very interesting indeed. Who will fumble and who will flourish? Only time will tell.

Looks like the videogame industry will figure out that it's a bad idea to bite the hand that feeds them.

Here's a concept for a Wii U forums app.

For now it's iOS, but later I will create versions for Android and Windows Phone. It's stil a WIP (you can tell from the in-complete stuff like icons etc)

This is my first attempt at creating a concept for a mobile device, so please forgive me if you don't like it.

#166597 EA on Wii U: Not a next-gen console

Posted by A W Reezy on 03 February 2013 - 05:07 PM

In hardware terms when compared to other consoles, it isn't next gen, but when compared to the wii, it is definately next gen. I don't buy Nintendo for EA, I buy Nintendo for Nintendo games, and there games are going to look gorgeous on this console and will probably be on par w/ next gen games because its nintendos magic. If the can make a 480p game such as DKCR or galaxy 2 look almost as good as a 720p game than I can't wait to see what they do with the same resolution. Sure, or 3rd parties it might not be enough, but I have no doubt that Nintendo will fully utilize the wii u and make their games some of the best looking of the next gen. If you don't believe me, pick up a copy of skyward sword and xenoblade, two of the best looking games of last gen that were on the wii. Look at wind waker, which despite being made 10 years ago still is visually stunning. Nintendo will be able to utilize their hardware, and who gives a crap if other developers can't, because Nintendo did so their silly excuses are a load of butt.

This x100.  Nintendo did great things with the Wii and the WII's graphics were sub par specs wise.  Give Nintendo a little time to work on their upcoming titles (new Mario, Zelda, etc...) and I think we'll see tremendous things.  I'm really excited!

I think im going with the PS4 instead of the 720. Just depends on how E3 goes. Seems that the PS4 has more horsepower. Im tired of getting jipped.

On a scale of Unicorns to Leprechauns how many good is this news?

This many good news.

It has a lot of, A LOT OF, custom stuff just not seen anywhere else. Im hesitant to use the term fixed function right now... But it would explain a lot about why this thing is punching so much higher than its size and power draw should allow from a more conventional design....

And it definately has programmable shader units as well, so it wont fall so easily into fixed function pitfalls....

Basically, take one of the first ground up 360 games, like say, condemned, and now compare it to one of the latest 360 games.

Now look at the gif of X i posted... And imagine the same level of improvement... But only from nintendo games, or joint nintendo/third party games.

Its a thread for the people who live in their mothers basement and jerk of over this carp. Instead of just playing the games for enjoyment they have to sit there and talk about how good the spec's are and why its so "OMFG 13333337 M473"

Protip: Leave the wii u HARDWARE forum, and go to the wii u GAMES forum.

OOOOH NOOOOOOEEESSSS

Now we can't spam Miiverse every few seconds! How will we ever-

Hey, guess what, five minutes is not a lot of time to wait at all. Spam can be an issue with message boards, especially ones with the potential to be as huge as Miiverse. The decision made is a smart one, and I stand behind it.

God forbid people should have to wait for things ever again.
