#236424 BBC Uk - Nintendo flogging a dead horse

Posted by alan123 on 01 August 2013 - 02:05 PM

Can't do the link due to phone, it seems the BBC have spoken to IGN and that was the outcome. However seeing as the UK is a.dead area for the WIIU could this news artical help spread the word?

what that the console is dead ?

all it will do is ut people off who were considering getting a WiiU.

here in the UK there is zero advertising for the WiiU or it's games, i have seen the odd Pikmin 3 advert on the TV, the only other adverts i have seen/heard is one on Talk Sport where the WiiU sponsored the Tour de France bulletins.

in that recent publication of WiiU sales the whole of the EU & Australia sold 10,000 WiiU's, so the EU was less than 10,000 & the UK was what lets just say 20% that would be only 2,000 WiiU's.

people keep going on about how the games will help at xmas, but i doubt any shops will be selling WiiU's by xmas, they will use the shelf space for the X1 & PS4, because they will continue with the space they have for the X360 & PS3.

the third party ports the WiiU is getting are inferior to the X360 & PS3 versions, they are either poor ports of older games or they are new games but with bits missing, like multiplayer or longterm DLC like map packs for CoD etc.

i'll never buy a Nintendo console again at launch, my trust in Nintendo has evaporated.

i don;t think anything Nintendo do will help either, a price cut will upset current owners but even if the console is cheaper there are very few games available, the amount of the cut i think to help could maybe maybe kill the console anyway but, i think the price would have to be £99 for the premium version to give the WiiU any chance against the X1 & PS4, but again without games it's a mute point.

Nintendo have no choice but to continue to support the WiiU for at least the next four to five years, any new console would not come on sale for two years at least & in that short time, people will be that annoyed at buying a WiiU that lasted such a short time i doubt anyone would buy on day one, which would make things even worse.

i don't think there is any real solution to how Nintendo can help the WiiU,

#232929 I need some positivity to curb my WiiU disappointment :(

Posted by alan123 on 18 July 2013 - 02:49 PM

I got a WiiU premium at launch (im in the UK) i got NSMBU, ZombiU, NintendoLand & Sports Connection, i had Sports on a offer where i could get a full refund within seven days if i didn't like/want it, i took it back before the seven days were up, i traded NintendoLand in around xmas, since then i have got Black Ops 2 & NFS-MW U & Luigi U, as full games, i have also got Trine 2, however i cancelled all my WiiU games i had on order, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 & Bayonetta 2.

I regret buying a WiiU now because it is just gathering dust, i have a Gaming PC, X360 & PS3, i also have a 3DS.

Developers & Publishers are deserting the WiiU, Nintendo have said they had problems with the transition to HD gaming, i find this shocking really coming from a huge gaming company like Nintendo, they cannot get to grips with their own hardware ?

I think that the power of the X1 & PS4 will just swamp the WiiU when they are launched, the WiiU's games are simply too few & far between, then there is the power & RAM issues & also the issues with developing for the WiiU with it's CPUGPU, eDRAM, small RAM & limited storage (dev's have no idea how much HD space owners have, some may not have any other than the internal, which is tiny).

I just don't buy this, the WiiU will be fine once "these" games come out, if people haven't already got a WiiU, i cannot see them buying one now especially when the PS4 is only £50 more than a WiiU (RRP), if i didn't have a WiiU already i wouldn't buy one now.

I have had most of the Nintendo consoles, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii & WiiU, but i think the WiiU will be my last, Nintendo learnt nothing from the 3DS launch, they also said that there would be lots of third party support because they knew the problems they had in the past, yet the support is the worst of any console ever, people keep on about the indie games, but i haven't spent £300 to play some indie game that i could of played on the X360 or PS3 via the online stores they have, or even my PC, you have had Nintendo coming out, well one of the main guys saying that the Youtube feature is very good but nobody is using it, why would they though when they have PC's & Phones to watch YT on, the playing the full game on the gamepad is also pretty pointless in my view, i would think that 90% of people play games on a separate TV to their main one.

I know i have upset & riled a few on here with my negative views, & i apologize but i am looking at the state of the WiiU with more or a realistic view, what if sales don't pick up & the WiiU fails this xmas ?

So i am asking for some positivity, because i know i am not the only one who is disappointed & has expensive device gathering dust.

So here is your chance to help us disappointed WiiU owners, just one thing though, don't just put a list of games because that doesn't add anything, at least comment about the games in some way, also the hardware.

Please help :(

#231741 So now that we pretty much know all the consoles' specs, let's talk a...

Posted by 3Dude on 15 July 2013 - 09:07 AM

uWhat's the score with ESram and EDram? one faster than the other?

sram is much much much faster than dram in terms of latency, its why the cube and wii use it. Bacl then it was pretty clear cut sram>>>>>dram, if it wasnt for the fact sram was so big ypu couldnt embed it, they would have used it and paid through the nose to get it.

However its expensive, power hogging, and not dense, meaning it takes up a lot of space for very little ram.

Dram is cheap, doesnt take a lot of power, and is very dense so you can put WAY more mb dram in the same space as sram. But, since it needs to refresh every cycle, its latency (how long you uave to wait to use it) is much higher... er, was, much higher.

Recent advances in edram technology (2008-2010) use the space cleared up by having such tiny ram cells to make larger bit interfaces for each cell, with each cell bussed six ways to sunday, bandwidth skyrockets, and acording to ibm 'Has double the bandwidth of sram of the same capacity, and the latency is only slightly worse than sram'

However, sram tech hasnt stood still either. Its heen shrunk enough for ms to embed it onto their die! Unfortunately I simply dont have much of any material on esram used like this, 32Mb is pretty huge 32kb sure ok, 256 kb, yeah... but 32 Mb? Not common place. But Im sure the latency is psychotically fast, and the bandwidth is definately boosted being on die as opposed to a daughter die, and i very much look forward to getting my hands on the material as info becomes available.

#231247 Wii U's price went down again in Asda

This can't be good. To think I spent £350.....

That's the price you pay for being an early adopter.

#221213 Do you think x looks as good as ps4/xb1 games?

Posted by 3Dude on 13 June 2013 - 01:15 PM

So if 'X' is a massive open world detailed game i assume it does not have load times for each section like Lego city? Guess we need to wait for release to find out?

As for looking as good as PS4,no but it's far far better than PS360 and looks like it will give Xbone a hard time.

Ooh, sorry I missed this.

Iwata confirmed X is going to be a completely seamless open world game.

No loading screens, ever.

I think they should adverd with games like COD og Need for speed. Show them.

I think that 97% off ''hardcore'' gamers dont care about a Mario og donkey kong game.

Noticing diminishing returns are hitting normal consumers pretty hard.

I only saw a laggy, blurry low-res live stream of it to be honest. Can't say that impressed me, maybe I need some HD gameplay.

Get on your wii u, get on the shop, click the e3 trailers tab, watch the x trailer, make sure the video is set to high quality.

Its the best quality feed of the trailer anywhere. Nothing else comes close.

#219489 Nintendo, the innovator of yesteryear

Posted by Lupaie on 11 June 2013 - 08:53 AM

they cant make any major changes. they added new characters and stages. unless you want all the characters to have shotguns and run around shooting players off the stage.

If adding a few characters and a hd shine is all you'd expect, you're an easy customer.

New moves, other systems, maybe 3d, ....and maybe a lot is possible. But to be honest maybe it's in there but wasnt showed.

#219410 Nintendo, the innovator of yesteryear

Posted by Lupaie on 11 June 2013 - 08:18 AM

Now, I'm lost. Sure Nintendo is the innovator. Every generation they use the same IP but do innovative things with the IP as well as the hardware. This time around I'm scratching my head.

I expected a new innovative Mario which would once again show the world how to use the hardware and do new things with it. I was sure.

But...

Mario 3d - hd brother of 3ds version
Zelda - hd version of gc game
Kart - hd rehash of 3ds and wii version
Smash - hd version of wii game concept
Donkey - hd version of wii game concept

It's not that I didnt expect these IP's but I wanted them to feel fresh. It's like even Nintendo doesnt know what to do with the gamepad.

I'm most excited about the upgrade in miiverse drawing, and that says a lot. And yes, bayonetta, w101 and X....three external games make up for it... A bit. The 3rd party trailer was ....Damn

#214561 Is the wii u THAT underpowered?

Posted by 3Dude on 02 June 2013 - 05:08 AM

I really can't see the logic in discussing performance of consoles at the beginning of their life’s, I mean PS4 and Xbox One haven’t even been officially released yet!
I think I remember when Sony originally unleashed details on the PS3 stating all kinds of numbers which didn't quite make it to release.

But; what did we get from the last generation of consoles?
Did we get a bunch of only rubbish games and wasted memories? Pfft only if you looked for them!
Ps3, Xbox 360 and Wii all had games which proved their respective worth.
They all had games which stood out and showed that the consoles could perform above our expectations (or at least mine!)
There is no doubt in my mind that the Wii U, Ps4 and Xbox One will all deliver unique content which proves that they perform well at what they do.

Pc performance will always be potentially higher than consoles, but there is no guarantee that your machine will perform above your expectation, you know what you’re getting into and it will probably only ever preform to your expectations or eventually worse as your hardware becomes less main stream and developers begin to code on newer hardware.

I suggest you read past the first sentence or two if you intend to post a response. And you REALLY dont want to talk about the merits of this pile of steaming homogenous crap that was an excuse of a generation i had to suffer through for the past 7 years. But thats a different subject.

Anyways, you are right, power has nothing to do with game quality or fun. But thats not what this thread is about. Its about power.

and if you continued reading, youd find out punk mistakenly thought the cpu in ps4/xbone was an 8 core piledriver, amd's most powerful line of cpu's meant to compete with i7's.

When in reality, the cpu is a jaguar, amd's netbook cpu's that get spanked by low end i5's, and even some i3's.

You dont need the system to be released to understand the implications of that much of a difference in power.

#208807 What happens if we see nextgen graphics from Wii U at E3?

Posted by joiemoie on 19 May 2013 - 12:31 PM

Nintendo will be releasing Nintendiroom which projects the screen across the entire room, along with hardware that constantly gets updated through software patches. They will announce "pass the controller and controller streaming" since the wii u pad uses wifi streaming. Also, the 2 ram in the console was really just 8GB of ram folded twice, and will unfold through a software patch on the week of E3.

EA will announce that it secretly loved the Wii U the entire time and was partnered with it, and used the hatred to attract more attention to the Wii U. It went by the secret name of SEGA "EA with an S before the E and a G before the A" and has been secretly making business deals with Nintendo, along with Sonic Lost World's exclusivity, to launch the Wii U way up.

During E3, they will reveal the next Super Smash Bros game out of nowhere. But instead of just being a trailer, they will announce that it will feature a 5000 player gamemode where they have all the attendees playing on a massive stage and 500 teams at the same time.

The wii u gamepad also has a cupholder slot, which is retractable and can be purchased in the Nintendo Eshop for $5.

All this shall be announced on E3.

#202922 Getting a bit fed up with UK prices Asda £149.99 Tesco £139.99

Posted by dante👌 on 02 May 2013 - 09:41 AM

Basic, but the deluxe is at £199. Seeing as the price is spreading it does look like retailers are clearing stock that has simply not shifted.

Ah, but still that is very low, and a little saddening. and also, i gotta ask real quick, How come you chose that as your profile pic? Every time i see it i get hungry.. heh
