#176738 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by routerbad on 26 February 2013 - 03:20 PM

as much as i love the wii u, this is pretty telling.

It doesn't really tell much other than that a two year old Nintendo tech demo running on an old engine designed for different hardware stands up fairly well against an in engine gameplay target render running on a very high powered PC.  The bird demo was more compelling visually.  The Zelda tech demo was intended to show off the lighting capabilities.

#176538 PS4 launch=Wii U price cut?

Posted by TheSparrow87 on 26 February 2013 - 09:33 AM

Good point, I am not counting added software into the price. ^_^  I do think their bundles are good value currently though and wish I would of held out for the zombi U with pro controller, but i dont mind since i had it at launch

Aye, they are, but as I haven't bought one yet, I hope my Retro Studio predictions/hopes come true though, for even better value ^^

#176473 New guy here

Posted by joey0480 on 26 February 2013 - 04:44 AM

hey folks,

Finally picked up a Wii U.  I got the ZombiU bundle package along with Mass Effect 3 and Super Mario of course.  Been a big advocate of Nintendo since my dad brought a NES home back in good ol' 1986 :)

Gotta say I got this one for the exclusives (even in my 30's now I still enjoy Mario and Zelda....though the wife wonders why but my son is now enjoying them as well) and do enjoy the ps3 and 360 as well.

Really hoping to see a new punchout game come to the wii u

Look forward to interacting with you all.

#176456 Predicting what happens at E3

Posted by Plutonas on 26 February 2013 - 03:22 AM

nintendo is always that predictable... I hope for some new ips also... And I bet we may see a couple of horror games... Nintendo loves horror games, but I also hope for an open world new ip for wii U.

#176424 PS4 launch=Wii U price cut?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 25 February 2013 - 11:37 PM

Price cut?

The wii u is already very cheap for the hardware it packs.

It's also the first Nintendo home console to be sold at a loss.

No price cut.

Nintendo already gave us a price cut right at the beginning.

And the wii u has high value even with the ps4 launch.

It at the very least justifies its price and will continue to do do for a couple of years.

PS4 and the 720's release will cut the wii U's price to free.

Ignorance is bliss I guess.

#176256 Aliens release now 31/5/13?

Posted by WreckinMachineX on 25 February 2013 - 03:59 PM

is this the same version released on the PS3/X360 & PC or is the WiiU better ?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Wii U version was actually being ported by Demiurge Studios. So while the 360/PS3 versions where reviewed poorly for horrible graphics (along with a ton of other reasons) the Wii U version still had hopes to be graphically superior. Gamepad support was also a big plus.

#176258 Ps4=Wii U in graphics IMO

Posted by routerbad on 25 February 2013 - 04:05 PM

I Dont know whats going on in here, or if people REALLY are trying to debate whether wii u somehow keeps up with ps4 specs (it doesnt, its outclassed 3 or 4 times).

But that guys post and explanation are complete crap, particularly on the subject hes talking about, which is wii u open world games vs ps360 open world games (a far cry from the on rails with cool backdrop ariel shot of killzone 4)

He points out one sharp corner, and calls the entire game low poly compared to 360 open world games like skyrim, and erroneously calls a cache miss (very common in alpha/beta and easily fixed) pop up. Among other dubious 'breakdowns'.

Protip: pop in is a level of detail tool used to give better details up close, while saving resources at distances considered to far to see.

Foilage pop in happens far away, at the line where there is no foilage and foilage.

Not at the very front in a random chunk, where tons of foilage is already rendered.

He wasnt comparing ps4 to wii u, he was attempting to say THIS

(Good image, its pc unmodded, so even with the slider on low settings... Its STILL superior to skyrim 360, and even all the way on high, heavily inferior to X).

is superior or equivilant.
to THIS.

Just looking at the land formation being stood upon alone is enough to know you really shouldnt be using this guys breakdown for your argument.

All its doing is spreading cracks that can be exploited by dubious arguments that would otherwise have no foothold.

I was just trying to say that what they've shown is not exactly groundbreaking, it's all been done before.  Good on them for showing any footage at all, though I have a feeling it may come back to bite them if they can't deliver that and more in game, on the actual hardware.  Sony have gone too far with target renders before and tried to sell them as in game footage.

Also, I don't think it's fair to say that just going on raw power that the PS4 "outclasses" the Wii U.  I think that it does offer more performance potential in many situations, but saying that it outclasses it 3-4x would imply 3-4X actual graphics ability, which I don't think is the case.  Then there's the issue with efficiency, I think Nintendo have a case going forward that the same level of graphics fidelity can be achieved through efficiency with lower powered hardware.

Obviously you are smarter here, and I'll continue to defer to you.  I'm thinking about the consoles and the environments holistically.  There is more to it than just raw hardware power, which has been proven in generations past as well.

#176304 How do you think Nintendo could advertise better?

Posted by Lebon14 on 25 February 2013 - 05:13 PM

Just communicatie what we have:

WiiU:
- Nintendo's next gen gaming system is right here right now with:
- Triple A Exclusives
- huge back cataloque with Virtual Console
- continue playing while TV is occupied
- eShop
- integrated social network designed for gaming
- unique experience with Gamepad
- crossplay with 3DS

And then create a video not showing people playing, but just showing some scenes of the top of the bill released and upcoming games

and say, with the most emphasis possible, that the WiiU is NOT a Wii upgrade. That it's a completely new console.

I enjoy reading your last sentence  . GREAT NEWS!

You know what that means, don't you?  It was a target render!

I think most expected this title to appear on Wii U. This seems to add more fuel to the fire.

#176168 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by mmxforever on 25 February 2013 - 02:00 PM

It won't matter what the power distance is because:

1: You aren't going to be able to tell as much generation to generation going forward.
2. Someone at BioWare just commented today that because of development costs, you aren't going to see a lot of developers pushing the machines and making them much better looking then they already are. If they did, he estimated some games would have to sell "20-30 million copies" just to break even.

As poorly as the Wii U has sold since Christmas, Sony and Microsoft are going to have a very difficult time selling machines that are in the $400-500 range. Factor in the lack of compatibility, lack of a GoW or Halo for either system, and most of the big name titles coming out on current gen machines too, and there really isn't a reason to make the jump to either without a game in your favorite series coming out that you absolutely must have. Which for me would be Halo 5 (probably 2 years off in other words).

Alright Ubisoft, convince me to buy this game for Wii U with great GamePad functionality. If you fail to do so, it's a PS4 buy for me.

I don't think Ubisoft care which platform you buy it on, so long as you buy it.  I plan on getting it for Wii U.
