#248360 The Legend of Korra: Book Two

Varrick is the best character in the entire avatar universe, hands down.  Every single thing he does or says is hilarious and I hope he sticks around for the whole season.

#247172 Anyone interested in starting Monster Hunter characters from scratch?

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 20 September 2013 - 09:49 AM

If we do mix up and I'm playing with beginners, I'll just switch to some of low rank gear I have lying around.  I don't think I can bring myself to start a new character from scratch.

What do you mean by "joining a city"?  How does that work and what are the cities for?

For the online mode, you will talk to a cat on the southwest side of the village.  Choose network mode to go into the online multiplayer.  Solo port is just a room that no one else can enter and allows you to take both the AI companions you eventually get with you.  It has all the same quests as the network mode and multi ports.  Multi port is a local multiplayer mode.  A wii U player can make a room that up to 3 3ds players can join.  Unfortunately, two Wii u's cannot play locallysince they can't join local rooms, only online.  So

Once connected, it will ask you to select a world.  Each world has a capacity for 1000 people.  Most people either go to Free A, or if they're looking to hunt G rank monsters, G rank A.  You'll be starting at low rank, so basically go anywhere but the G rank and Expert Worlds.  Not that anyone really uses the expert world.

After selecting a world, it will ask you to select a lobby.  Each lobby can hold 100 people. you can go wherever you like so long as the lobby isn't full.

After that, you'll be given quite a few options:

Create a Room--Make a room and call it whatever you want for whatever you want to do.  You can even password lock it

Enter a Room--enter one of the rooms already made in that lobby.  Make sure you can do whatever their target is before entering.  You can press R to see the name and hunter rank of the room's creator

Search for a room--Enter search criteria to find a room with the same target you want.  You should usually check if there's a non full room doing what you want before making a room yourself

Move to a World--change which world you're in

Move to a Lobby--change which lobby you're in

Friend List--see if your friends are playing MH. If they're are already in a room, you can warp directly to them and send them messages from this menu

Short message--Shows the messages you've received from people during your current playsession

Chatlog--lets you scroll through the chatlog and see what people around you are saying

Exit-- End network mode

At anytime online you can press ZL to open the chat menu to type things into the chatlog.  You also have some preset things called "Shoutouts"  you can edit these to your liking so you don't have to type a favorite phrase every time.

Once you are in a room, you can also activate voice chat and speak with people.  Keep in mind that the sound output from other people will come out of the gamepad by default (this can be changed in your ingame menu) so you need to have the gamepad's sound on to hear them.

The most important thing you need to remember is that whoever creates a room is the room's "Host".  As long as they remain in the room it will remain open.  But if they leave for any reason (turn off their console, log off, get disconnected) everyone else will get booted to their individual solo ports offline.  Most people will give everyone a heads up before closing their room, but some don't.  Try to be courteous about this.  If you know you will be leaving after you get back from a quest, and there's a guy waiting in the room for you to get back to hunt, let him know so he doesn't waste his time.  And also don't lie about how long until you finish the quest.

I once went into a room where there was already two hunters in a quest.  I asked them how long before they got back.  They told me they were almost done, so 5 minutes tops.  I waited for 20 minutes for them to get back, and once they got back, the host closed the room.  I could've gotten two quests done in that time if I had gone somewhere else.  Some people are just plain inconsiderate.

Anyway, I could probably drone on for awhile but that's what you need to know before going online.  Whenever you have questions I'll be happy to answer.

#246952 Anyone interested in starting Monster Hunter characters from scratch?

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 19 September 2013 - 11:56 AM

It kinda looks like we're starting a Saturday hunt every week. Last weekend we had three people with endgame weapons (Me, Itogi, and Gaymer I believe) and one newcomer (Marcus Noer).  As a result, we were doing the easy quests Marcus had to do and were obliterating them, not really giving him much time to get used to fighting these monsters.  I think we stopped right before his urgent quest to reach high rank.

Kinda hoping if we do have a large turn out we can balance out the rooms.  Either a good mix of new and experienced or have a room for newcomers and a separate room for experienced players.  I'm good with whatever, only real targets I have these days are lucent Nargacuga and getting those last two awards.  I'm fine with helping people.

I won't be starting a new character though, put too much time into my current one to want to start from scratch.

#246360 60 Minutes of Monster Hunter 4 Gameplay

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 16 September 2013 - 03:40 PM

I like how they start you off trying to survive against Jhen's brother, Daren Mohran.  Better than having people gather mushrooms first thing.

Been reading up all I can about the game and it seems there are a lot of monsters.  Many of them are returning monsters (Gypceros, Kut Ku, Gravios) but for all the people that started with third gen MH, myself included, I say, "The more, the merrier!"  Doesn't sound like they all got a proper moveset makeover like Rathian and Rathalos did for 3rd gen, but they still don't feel as clunky as they did.  Recent word is we got Akantor, a Kirin Subspecies, and a Tigrex rare subspecies.  All of my yes.  Here's a link to the current Monster list: http://monsterhunter...i/MH4:_Monsters

The new mechanics seem to make the fights a lot more fun and dynamic.  Looks like it adds a nice layer to the combat.  I heard the longsword's midair attack is the third attack of the spirit combo.  If I can link directly into the roundslash from that, this longsword master is VERY happy.

the new Wyvern Virus mechanic sounds interesting.  Once infected, the hunter must try to deal a certain amount of damage to the monster that caused the infection before a gauge fills.  If they do, they get a critcal hit bonus.  If they don't, they lose the ability to regenerate the red portion of their health bar for who knows how long.  An infected monster will be more aggressive, as well as do and take less damage.  Unfortunately, a thought has crossed my mind: Infected Deviljho.  Nope nope nope nope.

The two new weapons look really fun.  I'm honestly not sure which one I want to try more.  The Bug staff reminds me of a longsword that can buff itself, the charge axe is a cross between an SnS and the axe mode of a switch axe.  I really want to play all this.

Based on what I've seen and heard, the monsters and most equipment look great.  The ground textures look horrendous in many cases unfortunately.  Oh well, I can't say I play MH for the graphics.  Not a deal breaker.

And of course this is a portable MH game with online and a Link armor set with Master Sword and Sacred Bow.  I need this.  I need it now.

#238412 Wonderful 101 is the reason to own a Wii U

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 10 August 2013 - 09:52 PM

I was actually rather impressed with the game and am tempted to buy it.  The trailer and the demo showed the game had far more depth than I thought it would have.

I played it on easy mode and never got less than a gold medal.  Was kind of winging it and not paying much attention, but it did feel like there were times when the game should have explained something. I didn't realize I had to have unite hand equipped to turn something, though I figured it out eventually.  Suppose it is kind of obvious in hindsight.

I do like how very stylized it is.  Kind of game where just watching it makes me smile.

#236497 What do you think Nintendo should do after that horrible news of 7-31-13

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 01 August 2013 - 07:00 PM

They really should do a price drop.  Even 50 dollars would go a long way considering the lineup the rest of this year.

If they can, they should also buy Atlus, and do a little bit of the third option.

What they absolutely must do is ADVERTISE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!  YOU'RE GONNA HAVE A LOT MORE GAMES!  LET IT BE KNOWN!

#227860 If Nintendo remade Majora's Mask with an extended timer would you play it?

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 30 June 2013 - 10:20 PM

Call me a lunatic but I don't want an extended timer, but instead want a Master Quest that has the slowing of time disabled.  I'm not sure what's wrong with me.

#224340 Sony says Vita was developed for PS4 more than PS3, not unreasonable to own both

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 19 June 2013 - 07:03 PM

Sony, you need to give people a reason to buy a Vita, not a $250+ PS4 accessory.  Why does Sony struggle with this concept?

#221853 Kamiya states he'd like to work on a Star Fox or a Takamaru's Ninja C...

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 14 June 2013 - 02:54 PM

imagine starfox in glorious 1080p 60fps with off ship combat and flight combat made by based kamiya. it's too much for my brain to handle

I WANT THIS. I want to play Star Fox. I loved Assault for the Gamecube. I know a lot of people didn't and liked SF64 more, but Assault will always be my favorite. I'm sure he could do something to make the ground battles more interesting to everyone else too

All of this.  As I said somewhere else, I'd love a game that's 1/2 SF64 and 1/2 Assault.

Also, Nintendo needs to get off their butts and add in some co-op.  Starfox has more than one member.  Do something with them.  Heck, you could do tower defense with the gamepad user spawning enemies and such while the other 4 fight them off.  Maybe have team battles with Star Fox vs Star Wolf.  And for crying out loud make the multiplayer playable online.  There's so much potential for this series now, just do something!  Please!

#221796 3DS streepass getting new web framework

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 14 June 2013 - 12:18 PM

I am so glad for this.  The only person I streetpass regularly is my friend, but we have pink pieces in the same spots.  The last time we had all the pieces was after the Zelda concert in Chicago.  Got 115 streetpasses that night.but we hardly have any pink pieces for the puzzles released in the last 6 months.

#212378 Sonic Lost Worlds Trailer released!

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 28 May 2013 - 02:47 PM

After watching the trailer and reading IGN's recent article, I'm impressed and optimistic.  From what I read, sonic team said they are focused on gameplay and controls first, everything else second.  It is currently a day one buy for me.

holy crap i am so ridiculously powerful.

I think i am WAY too good at sliming with a switch axe.

Its... its brutal.

I need g rank to come put me in my place.

Here's the thing, that one has a power phial and high raw.  The slime is just icing on the cake at that point.

I just ordered this game, you might see some posts from me around the forum saying that after I had played the demo I didn't like it and that it's an aquired taste, well I honestly think I just aquired that taste lol, I've been playing the demo over and over and I've seen a couple of reviews and tons of gameplay videos and this game not only looks and feels FUN IT'S HUGE!!!!! I really am sure I will get my moneys worth and I was wrong itis my type of game, I should be getting it about Monday or Tuesday so I'll see you online and on MiiVerse! :D
