#248133 EA: Miyamoto "falling down" and gaming "taken over by a dead guy...

Posted by Zinix on 26 September 2013 - 06:50 AM

EA's Richard Hilleman has said that the console industry has demanded too much from the consumer, with players turning to innovation in the mobile space for their gaming entertainment.

Where once young players learned from video games designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, they now pick up lessons in play from the touch screens of iOS devices.

"I thank Miyamoto for that," he said of the Nintendo designers historical contribution to games. "But he's falling down on the job. And for the past five years that job has been taken over by a dead guy from Cupertino."

"We've asked for too much time, too much skill, and too much money, sometimes all at once," he told the audience at D.I.C.E. Europe today.

"Customers today... are generally looking for a single fabric of play. They want their game where they want it, when they want it, and at a price they can defend to other people."

He suggested that the next generation of consoles can get gamers back if it learns from new trends, where players have become content creators and the focus in development has shifted from hardware to software. According to EA research, mobile games hold the attention for 90 seconds and PC games for 90 minutes, but consoles can keep engagement for two hours at a time.

"Once I get your butt on a couch, I can get two hours for sure. That granularity means I cannot build the same game on every platform. I cannot build Battlefield on every platform."

Next generation games consoles will be more focused on updates to software and services rather than hardware specs, which will scale back the reliance on physical sales and mean the systems will be in a constant state of evolution rather than staggered over time.

"We are no longer in step function; we are in evolution," he said. "We are not changing every four years; we are in continuous change."

"Gen 4 will increasingly become a surrogate to the development of the platform overall, to the point where the hardware doesn't even matter any more."

He also highlighted the importance of user generated content and artwork in the new gaming ecosystem, suggesting that users will be just as important, if not more so, than staff employed in-house.

"Maybe these guys are the new software artists, and that means they will be the key strategic resource for the future... And they know it."

Miyamoto's worst game is better than anything EA puts out.

#247309 What if Nintendo was to re-release classics in HD?

Posted by Gaymer on 20 September 2013 - 09:59 PM

I want new games. Sick of these HD "remakes"/ports. I didn't buy a Wii U for nostalgia purposes. This goes for HD collections in general. The 360/PS3 are littered with them.

#247626 Wii U Summer/Fall Update

Posted by Eye_Of-Core on 23 September 2013 - 07:27 AM

I did some research, released it this forum and will most likely make a new thread with updated information's.

Evidence points out that Nintendo is going to allow/unlock shaders on the Wii U that were detectable in Wii mode via hacks, eg currently 3rd party developers can access 320 SPU's that has 352Gflops performance while the September/October update should give full usage to 960 SPU's and 1056Gflops or 1.05Tflops of performance and maybe push Wii U's power consumption higher eg from 40 watts to 70 watts if 40 watts power consumption was w/ shaders that were all active or inactive if inactive then we can expect higher power consumption.

About Wii U's storage, it has flash based that is twice to two and a half times faster than USB 2.0 or HDD's inside Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

At least with Wii U you can have good old school way of playing your games, put a dvd in and play without installs. :)

#246949 IGN List their Top 25 Wii U Games

Seems a bit too early to make a Top 25 list for a console that isn't even a year old.

I liked the ZombiU bonuses. Extra multiplayer mode and custom bats were both pretty cool.

#244968 Possibly all of the Mega Evolutuion Pokemon.

Posted by Chrop on 08 September 2013 - 12:57 PM

Maybe this is not the right place to ask, but will EVERY one Pokemon ever released be in this game?

EVERY POKEMON can be placed into the game, but you cannot CATCH every single pokemon in the game, only trade/transfer them from past game or other peoples games.

Onto the topic at hand, If this is legit, then I CAN NOT WAIT to see Mega-Lapras, Lapras is my favorite pokemon out of them all, I would have HATED if they made a second evolution for Lapras, but I would be completely Hyped for a Mega-Lapras. Also there's quite a lot of OU pokemon there, they kinda don't even need a mega-evolution, but hey! If it stops them from using items then i'm fine with it.

Every pokemon will at least have data in the game. You may not be able to catch them, but you could transfer all of your Gen 3 and Gen 1 (via Firered/Leafgreen) pokemon to Gen 4, transfer all of those plus Gen 2 (from Heartgold/Soulsilver) to Gen 5, and then use the Pokebank and Poke-Transporter to bring them into Gen 6. This means that someone has every Pokemon from every Gen and is ready to bring them into Gen 6.

#244551 United States Xbox One getting free game

True. Thats dictated by the quality, logic, and context of their assertion.

Yes, I am.  What's your point?  I'm saying that it's arrogant to assert that if someone gets the other console they just aren't thinking correctly.

you're both American.

Imagine this:
x1 costs 200$ more than it does now, that's 800 USD
It's less powerful.
It costs $3 more each month for the online, that's what? $8? $9?
It's been confirmed to launch late in many Canada, New York, Washington, Florida, and a few other states you may live in.
It's been confirmed that Europe is getting a free game while you as an American are not.
It's not getting any TV features.
The movie and music lineup is much smaller.

Meanwhile the PS4 is only 100$ more than it currently is in the US at around 700 USD
more powerful.
costs only $5 a month for online, with subsidised game monthly.
launches on time.
everyone getting the same items in the box.
same tv features as currently available on ps3 in your region.
larger movie and music library than xbox.

#243821 Rayman Legends is missing 28 Levels on the Playstation Vita.

Posted by TheUltimateWaddleDee on 03 September 2013 - 06:24 AM

Kind of late but yes, 85 Teensies are missing.

So i'm guessing so far,Wii U> PS360/PC > PSVita

Fixed. The Wii U has 5 player co-op, Murphy makes multilayer even better, and waiting for Murphy to br able to interact with something slows the Murphy stages even more than having an AI go through the levels.

#241386 Rayman Legends Review ONM- 92/100- Source GAF

Posted by Gaymer on 25 August 2013 - 08:54 AM

I'm buying it. It's not the developer's fault that it was delayed and I've gotten over the fact that it was delayed. It's going to be a good game regardless and made even better by the delay.
