#318150 A Late-Night Stream of Consciousness

Posted by Tom on 13 February 2019 - 08:24 PM

Good morning, everyone!

It is currently 9:52 10:15 10:37 PM. I've got work in the morning.

Regardless, something drew me here. Something compelled me to log in, post a status update and make this very topic. Probably nostalgia.

Definitely nostalgia.

The Wii U is almost 7 years old. That's the age of the average first-grader in the US. I feel like it didn't necessarily flop, though it didn't fare too well compared to the Xbox One and the PS4.

I still have my Wii U. It's kinda collecting dust nowadays. I still have the Animal Crossing Plaza, though the service has long since been discontinued.

I'm still kinda bummed that a proper Animal Crossing title wasn't released on the Wii U.

At some point I got my hands on a Switch, but nowadays I don't have enough free time to sit down and enjoy the titles.

At the time of writing, Nintendo confirmed a mainline Animal Crossing title coming out on the Switch this year. I'm looking forward to that.

I never considered myself to be a prolific member. I wished people happy birthdays and shared positive opinions on things. I acquainted myself with the kind members here and have forgotten to make contact with people.

Oh man, it's been everyone's birthday.

I finally graduated from college with a BS in Computer Science. It turns out that I find programming to be very dull.

I've been building a lot of computers in the meantime. I find that to be pretty fun, at least.

I might just go back and get an art degree.

My degree did, however, land me a nice job that has nothing to do with programming.

I've been learning video editing on the side as a hobby. I want to use what I learned in order to make a video on the history of WUF. I'm by no means an OG member, and it's going to require me to do a whole lotta reading on topics made before I even joined the forum. But I think it would be a fun undertaking.

The target demographic might be a little niche.

I'd like to make it and have it published on the 7th anniversary of the Wii U's US release.

---

It's kinda weird seeing that I'm the only soul on this website right now, at this time. A few guests, though I suspect all of them to be web crawlers.

It's wild to think of all the fun conversations that were had on this website. A whole lotta years have gone by since this website was considered totally dead, and I can't even imagine where everyone has gone and what fun exploits they've achieved in life since then.

I've kinda disappeared of the face of the Earth. I don't use any social media, nor have I been active in any other communities. It sometimes feels like I'm getting a little too old or too jaded to be participating in gaming communities. I've been wanting to do Twitch streams, but my anxiety has stopped me short of hitting the "start streaming" button in OBS.

I've experienced quite a few rough patches in my life. Despite that, my signature holds true.

I'm kinda drunk. I love you guys. My Discord is Tom Pls#2986.

Oh hey it's me.

I mostly stuck to the side sites but this place was always that weird drunk uncle to me and I liked checking it out. Fiery's stupid shenanigans (RIP papa bless), horchata doing cool drawings, fun drama to drink coffee to.

I wasn't really that close to you all but i think you all have my steam anyway. If you want my discord pm me, i play games and piano and stuff still.

I miss Horchata's drawings too! I still love the secret Santa from 2015. (Crazy that it was 4 years ago)

It's pretty nice to see the updates here. I remember I was still in school when this was active. :wesmart:

Hope everyone is doing good hug

#318128 Oh yeah, I never made a music thread here

Posted by Waller on 24 June 2017 - 11:12 AM

These are very impressive Waller

I started out with piano when I was in middle school for about a year but then I switched over to classical guitar. I don't really play that often nowdays tho :<

I remember you said you really liked drawing, you should post some drawings here too :>

Thank you Horchata.

Haha, yeah, I know a lot of people who are in your exact same situation. For some reason everyone just loves to drop instruments in favor of guitar, I guess it's because they're more practical than most other instruments? Either way, I would love to hear what you can play!

Maybe I will if I ever sit down and actually draw again, I don't think I've drawn anything other than stupid napkin doodles since last year. I'm barely capable of forcing myself to stop playing Trails in the Sky 3/Guilty Gear Rev 2 long enough to go practice piano, drawing is completely out of the question atm :P

Wow this is good stuff, I don't really understand this kinda thing but I assume you've put a lot of work into it :)

I play the drums :)

Have done so for many many years, at this point I can play pretty much any song bar certain Led Zeppelin songs and other songs by insanely talented drummers.

Favourite band to play along to is MuteMath, Darren King (their drummer) is phenomenal.

Oh, the video is just a MIDI being played back in Synthesia, it's just something I put there so as to not leave the screen completely black. Just think of it as each color representing a different instrument. It took me roughly two months to make the arrangement, but that's mostly because I'm a slow and lazy worker, I could probably get it done in less than a week if I took it like a job.

Oh yeah, I remember reading a couple of status updates that alluded to you playing the drums. That's awesome Mewbot, I've always wanted to learn drums myself but unfortunately they're too expensive for me, and I wouldn't have any idea where to start anyway since there's no music teachers here. Anyway, I've never heard of MuteMath before, do you have any particular album from them you would recommend?

This is nothing but a shameless plug.  Actually, I just wanted to see if I could make the Soundcloud embed code work for once.

Edit: I couldn't.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who still pops over to twuf every now and then for nostalgia's sake.

I loved this forum more than I loved the wii u itself.

I bought it from the eshop for the Wii U almost imediatly after relase because I couldn't wait to play it. I've really liked it so far, totally worth the wait lol.

I'll consider getting a Switch once the new Mario game relases, hopefully they can offer better deals too.

It's an amazing game :D

#318060 Pokemon Go: An Open Letter to Nintendo

Posted by Mitch on 11 July 2016 - 09:52 AM

Pokemon Go has taken the world by storm, no matter where I go I cannot escape Pokemon Go. I have dreamt of this moment my entire life, having been relatively young when the Pokemon craze took the world by storm back in the late 90's I have longed for those same Pokemon fever days to return back to the same extreme global phenomena levels of yore. No those days have seemingly begun to reappear in the form of Pokemon Go....Sadly....Pokemon Go is not the Pokemon game that should have been the Messiah of my childhood dreams. While there are spinoff games such as 'Pokemon Snap' and 'Hey You Pikachu', the core Pokemon franchise is mainly built upon the foundation of 4 core concepts: Hunting, Capturing, Grinding, and Battling, Pokemon Go manages to properly satisfy one of these concepts being the Hunting aspect of the game in that you utilize the GPS of your phone to actually track and find Pokemon in real time in the wide open world. Capturing, Grinding, and Battling is where Pokemon Go not only fails as a Pokemon game, but also sheds light on several horrifying thought of the future of Nintendo. Before I delve into how disgustingly bastardized those 3 aspects of the game are, I must remind you of all the time over the past decade that Nintendo has urged us that they would never even consider going into the mobile gaming market, that they would never release a game that was not completely finished and polished, that we must "please understand" that everything Nintendo does and has done has been the right decision for not only their customers, but for all of gaming as a whole. With all of that said they betrayed us all and released Pokemon Go where you capture Pokemon by playing a rainbowty version of Pokemon Paper Toss, where you train your Pokemon and grind to level them up by spending actual money on in game currency that levels you up, and where Battling has been replaced with a horrible awful tap your screen to fight battle mechanic. We have been betrayed and the masses are eating the pile of rainbow that Nintendo has put in front of their face to the tune of a 25% stock increase since launch. The masses have agreed that this type of product is acceptable in the horrible state that it is in.... it is completely unfinished, I wouldn't even classify it as a game, more-so the Easter egg hunt from hell. Take any other game franchise and imagine that it had the lazy battle mechanic that Pokemon Go has and then ask yourself if you would be fine with that? We deserve a much better Pokemon game than what we were given. This is no worse the fads that are the Kardashians and the Fast and the Furious movie franchise....you people are mindless sheep who follow whatever unicorn tongue craze there is and put a smile on your face and say its fun. If Nintendo is going to have no self-respect then that does not give you an excuse to also have no self-respect for yourself and waste your own precious time with this utter garbage. We dont need to accept this treatment and open the door to even more micro-transaction filled games! We can all uninstall and rally together to send a message to Nintendo to not sell their souls for the few millions that they will make from micro-transactions.

Get better at Smash. I feel like I'm lacking at it. And after watching Genesis 3 and seeing Ranai's Villager destroy a lot of people... I think my Villager needs to improve a lot.
