#155369 2013 Wii U Games

I wish Zelda was in this list... So I don't have to wait for it to come in 2014!!!

#155200 Wii U could more than double power consumption?

Posted by Kokirii on 02 January 2013 - 09:08 AM

I would be more than happy if the wii u only ends up pushing out games/graphics like top end ps3 games, seeing mario, donkey kong, zelda and metroid all with this type of graphics would be AMAZING and would be next gen for nintendo, just enjoy the console for what it is :) if it does surprise after that its a bonus

This is a refreshing post!

Generally speaking, it's probably just not a good idea to buy a Nintendo as a sole console if you want to play  all the big 3rd party multiplatform titles.   I personally am happy that I'll get all the classic and new Nintendo franchises with the Wii U power, and I have my PC and Xbox 360 for other games.

#154826 Capcom: Wii U support not focused on late ports

Posted by Desert Punk on 01 January 2013 - 11:39 AM

I don't mind ports I just want properly enhanced ports making good use of the gamepad, the extra memory and full use of the optical disc so more content than 360 games. The PS3 rarely got enhanced games because it was using the same resources as the 360 version so much of the blu-ray disc was wasted. I hope now we see some games that make more use of the extra storage. Also the ps3 and wii u support full quality multi-channel lpcm audio which the 360 doesn't. Support for that would be nice too. A bit annoyed with the 360 dictating poor audio and game engine movie sequences etc all the time. I'd prefer pre-rendered movie sequences if they are done in stunning 1080p quality with a high quality soundtrack.  Its especially annoying as pre-rendered playback on ps3 often happens immediately without having to load additional assets, its more seamless where as movie sequences using the game engine have to be loaded in and played then the level data loaded back in again to play the game.

The wii u has strengths and weaknesses and just want to see games properly optimised for wii u and not lazy ports.

#153893 Wii U - A massive disappointment?

Posted by Nollog on 30 December 2012 - 07:31 AM

Where do I start? the interface is poor and confusing and very very slow. Super Mario looked unfinished, unimaginative  and lacked polish compared to something like New Super Mario bros Wii and certainly Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Thank heavens for Skylanders or I would have a very disappointed little boy this Christmas, he loves this game and it feels like the only properly developed and finished Wii U product we have. I am sure it is just as good on other platforms though.

There has been a lot of talk about this being Nintendo's last console and that the future for them will be as a software house for iPad, PS4 and Xbox and this seems inevitable to me at this point in time. Trouble is, if they do not pull up their socks with the quality of their output then I do not see a big future for them in that market either.

Before the flaming starts, remember I have always been a Nintendo fan boy and I really hope the next wave of games bring the magic back.

Mario is finished, what makes you think otherwise?
Unimaginative how? Because it follows the 20 million selling formula?

I dunno, skylanders is an activision published title, you sure that feels finished and complete?
How many of the characters have you, and dlc?

Only apple fangirls believe Nintendo will stop producing consoles after the wii, wii u, or any of their consoles.
They want Nintendo's games on iOS for $1, which is never going to happen.

Why would we flame you?

I had to stop reading right there for a bit....... Is this really a bad thing? wii sports is a bad game..........

Wii Sports is not a bad game.
It's a simple, friendly, fun game.
It has no story, graphics are very very dated.
It's still one of the best games in the past few years from anyone.

Wii Sports was the most inclusive video game I have ever played and was perfect for a pack in game. That is what sold the Wii, Uncles, Aunts and Grannies could play and the whole family could play Bowling and Golf together.

Good point, however most games are set for target audience so you wouldn't really expect Gen Y to be its target and I must say Wii Sports is mediocore in a sense of lasting appeal, overall gameplay despite it's immense originality which spurred other spin-offs, but everyone has their opinion and Nintendoland is a much better game as a bundle pack because of the amount of mini-games available to play - also knowing that Wii U is still at it's sprouting stage.

I didn't find Zombi U to be that great as the hype encouraged it to be, definitely overrated and find it strange Nintendo would allow this to be in its first wave of launch titles.

New Super Mario Bros U is a great game and has many traits just like it's predecessors; gameplay, lasting appeal, game quality, sound... I'm not sure on how to fault this game and since you have stated that it seems unpolished, unfinished and unimaginative can you clarify this further?

My biggest downfall with the Wii U, apart from the menu lags, is that I was so hoping they would bring in a gamer logging system that would include achievements or trophies...

the only reason the gamecube didnt sell is because it couldnt play dvds

I loved the GameCube, just to add onto that... it didn't sell much because of the lack OF variety/great games despite having many Nintendo-only games which weren't shared across multiple platforms inc. Xbox and Playstation 2, multiplayer wasn't that great, graphics were always blurry on games... so many faults but I still enjoyed my GameCube.

#154436 Wii U could more than double power consumption?

Posted by 3Dude on 31 December 2012 - 09:49 AM

All in all I think Wii U will be fine. Up to the devs which is SCARY to think about.

Oh it will definately be fine. The only people who have complained have been port teams, and their complaints are stupid and all the same.

The wii u is clocked slower, the game engine relies on simd/high clock speeds.

Solution, rewrite the engine for a different solution than simd. Oh, thats right, you are a c list port team who doesnt have the knowledge, and arent given the time and resources to do it anyway.

Frozen byte optimized their engine for wii u. Then again, Frozenbyte is small, they dont have port teams, their main team does everything.

They dont need to wait on middleware that may NEVER be optimized for wii u (like unreal 3, which has been announced as finished on consoles as far as support from epic is concerned.) they arent afraid to dive in to change code because they dont understand it.

The same guys who wrote it originally brought it to wii u, and the result of that is the wii u version has the same graphical effects and superior physics as the pc version, that the ps360 just couldnt do.

Its fine. Its not a powerhouse, and in certain areas, like floating point and simd, yeah, its not as powerful as 360/ps3, but thats because it wasnt designed to specialize in that specific area like ps360 were. It offers superior performance utilizing different solutions.

If you absolutely NEED FP or simd that the cpu just cant muster, it has a blazing fast interconnect to the gigantic gpu which has plenty of simd nodes to spare. Its almost like they put them on the same substrate on purpose or something...

Gah, I hope Retro is doing metroid. The second retro/ead's big game is shown is the very second people stop complaining...

#151787 Wii U Launch More Successful Than Xbox 360 And PlayStation3

Posted by Desert Punk on 25 December 2012 - 10:43 AM

In like... 2 ways.
GPU - 360
Disc - PS3
CPU - PS3
Games - Draw (Not at launch, 360 obv. was winning then but that is unfair.)
RAM - 360
Sound - 360
Online - 360

The RAM question is a tricky one as they both have near enough the same RAM although its split on PS3 between GPU and CPU. The extra 10MEG of fast video memory of the 360 is slightly reduced by the fact the PS3 has additional cache in a few places. Also all PS3's have hard drives although admittedly the new 12GB model now depletes this somewhat but many PS3 games have a mandatory hard drive install because up to the 12GB model all PS3's have hard drives which isn't true of the 360 which gives the ps3 a virtual memory advantage.

The online bit is also suspect. I don't subscribe to xbox live so have no online functionality for 360 games but have it for my PS3 so the free online feature is a huge advantage to me of the PS3, so you can understand I would have the PS3 as superior in this regard. If I'd have had xbox live for the 7 years of 360 ownership that would have been about £200 spent that I could have used elsewhere.

The main criticism of your list is sound though. Sound is far, far better on PS3. Its huge blu-ray discs means it can often have far more space dedicated to sound and the internal hardware is superior anyway supporting superior audio formats including 7.1. This is such a huge and comprehensive win for the ps3 that I don't understand why you would have put that. The PS3 is easily the king of consoles with regard sound. The xbox 360 never moved on from the original xbox, in fact many have argued the sound hardware in the original xbox is superior as its a dedicated sound chip where as the 360 splits audio between the cpu and a sis chipset. Admittedly the ps3 also uses the power of the cell for some audio processing but then the cell is ideal for that.

#146944 Will Wii U be next gen's PS3?

Posted by Dragon on 12 December 2012 - 05:11 AM

The only reason the Wii U comes off as hard to develop for, is because these games being ported to it are running on CPU focused engines. The Wii U is heavily focused on it's GPGPU. Just wait until games properly utilize the hardware.

#125744 Up or Down How will You Wii U

Posted by cannonshane on 07 November 2012 - 06:15 PM

I usually leave my consoles horizontal, Mostly for a fact the general rule of thumb is a CD drive spins easier when horizontal thus making it easier for the laser to read it, Just an old thing my friend who use to work for IBM many years ago told me.

#147959 My Wii U has bricked, here is my story.

Posted by Hitomi on 14 December 2012 - 06:28 AM

Actually, I've heard this is common throughout hardware these days. Mainly the reason it says not to turn the system off and etc.

only when u turn a system off during installation not the download process

#147286 Devs explain lack of online multiplayer in Nintendo Land + Star Fox

Posted by Sobari on 12 December 2012 - 06:59 PM

Nintendo needs to stop living in their fantasy world and accept that a large number of people have more online friends than real life friends, often only having access to the online variety.

What if you're forever alone? That's not fair Nintendo not everyone has friends or family nearby to play with. I can't play more than half of the attractions simply for that reason I don't have anybody to play them with.
