#238276 What nintendo needs to do to make the Wii U competitive.

Nintendo the gamepad was a terrible idea from the start and should be ditched at this point as this is killing the wii u so what nintendo needs to do do is relaunch the wii u in 2014/15 and have a more powerful console that would resemble a super slim ps3 and be 10.8 inches length,10 inches width and 2 inches height would be the consoles size, replace the 8GB and 32GB models for a more powerful 300GB hard drive, update the console op to be fully be operated by the pro controller as primary control method for the console instead of the gamepad for future wii u models, have WiiU and 3DS cross game ability with off-tv play for 3DS ultimately replacing the gamepad and would be bundled with a new version of the pro controller that would include a touchscreen, headphone jack, microphone and gyroscope motion controls which the console will support up to 4 pro controllers and also support up to 4  motionplus controllers as an optional control method for certain games and would come with a DVD/Blu-ray movie player for $299.99 that will come in both black or white. nintendo should do this as it give the wii u a fresh start and would bring 3rd party developers to support it while at the same attracting hardcore and core gamers back to the console.

#227662 Wii U for next gen?

Posted by 3Dude on 30 June 2013 - 08:04 AM

You had a wii and a 360. You already know the answer to this.

The wii u is nowhere near as underpowered as wii was however, and its getting better third party support.... Just different 3rd party support.

Instead of crap crap minigames and dance garbage 70, its getting bayonetta 2 and wonderful 101.

You will want a wii u for the same reason you enjoyed a wii. There are awesome games on it you just cant get anywhere else, Like Monolith softs X.

For the cloned to hell and back homogenized aaa garbage fest thats about to finally die a hopefully excrutiating death this gen, you will want a ps4/xbox or a mid range pc (i5+ decent graphic card)

Id suggest ps4 since its smaller, cheaper, more powerful, and has Sce exclusives.

#222679 Lets analyze and compare Bayonetta 2' gameplay

Posted by 3Dude on 16 June 2013 - 09:59 AM

Okay, So I will be using IGN's video feed of the entire bayonetta 2 demo, I can embed the youtube job they did, but I would advise using IGN's page as its a much better feed of the video than the one they put on youtube.

So youtube:

And IGN's.

http://www.ign.com/v...GN Wii U Videos)

We will be going through this by the time on the video, so. Yeah, find something interesting, fast forward to  that point in the video. That being said, for the video to even start, fast forward to 1:13 of the video to skip all the annoying prattle. You may also want to turn the sound off to save your ears from the incessant yapping.

1:18-1:37

We are given an extreme closeup of bayonetta's in game high lod model, then bad guys show up and it immediately starts the gameplay.

1:40 we realize the gameplay is taking place on a jet plane zooming through a massive detailed city, each and every window reflecting the city scape. Here is where we notice the first big difference between bayonetta 2 and similar titles on ps360, like god say, god of war. Not only is the environment massive and the camera not fixed to a certain view od it (tricks used to get a more impressive scene than system power can actually allow) but is zooming through a massive city, but it also changes depending on who the player is attacking and where the player is, doing complete 180's if the player chooses to attack an enemy behind them to give a better view.

2:10 not oonly do we have a massive city scape, but we see we are being trailed by a large number of angels, who catch up to and land on the jet to fight. Hey look, theres a train.

Lets take this time to see how the 360 tries to do a scene like this. What game? Bayonetta of course, the highway level, cause its the only thing that comes close. Lets take a look at route 666.

SPOILER if you have not played the first bayonetta and do not wisht to be spoiled, dont watch this video.

Wow... Thats... Really empty. And small. And... Ugly. Those are all the same exact semi's and cars. Theres absolutely nothing in the background beyond the road. Like, its really really empty and samey. Must be because the ps360 are so much more powerful than the wii u.

2:33 We see the jets starting to take damage as the fighting on it continues.

2:45. Nice sword.

3:05 giant thing bursts through building, is ridiculously high detailed, polied, and textured.

3:10 it joins the real time gameplay along with the gigantic city, smashing buildings and stuff and sometimes attacking

4:30 fighter jet gradually takes damage the entire time, its looking pretty messed up now

5:00 Ouch, fighter jet is really messed up now.

5:05 Now the fighter jet needs a band aid, bad.

5:12 and now we are on the train we saw earlier

5:27 lets take a good look at belief, He is incredibly high poly, and very detailed, covered in ornamental golden armor and tapestry like.. loin cloths, and a big creepy face, and sickly skin... Remember all these details, they weill get beaten off peice by peice during this fight.

5:30 belief decides to try and smash the train. The entire bridge begins falling apart.

Nows a good time to compare what a collapsing bridge on the wii u looks like compared to on last gen systems.

DISCLAIMER  If you havent finished god of war ascension and dont wish to be spoiled, DONT WATCH THIS VIDEO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHhEQob2XJE

FIrst thing well notice. Wow, there is nothing in this place and nothing going on. Bayonetta 2 is on a speeding train over a lake and through a massive city. Ascension shows nothing but the bridge inside a non detailed cave. Wow. Ascensions bridge breaks into really large blocky chunks and the whole things happening really slow compared to bayo2. Bayo 2's bridge is breaking up into way more peices and they are a lot smaller and its happening a lot faster. Oh wait, that was slow mo witch time. Now its all happening EVEN faster. Oh, and theres a huge fight happening too.

5:35 bayonetta begins wailing on belief, the first subtle damages to his armor and skin on his.... tentacle arm begin taking place.

5:50 ha ha, thats pretty cool, now we are running off the train onto belief to do some damage.

6:05 We see bayonetta's lock on indicator, as you can see by how many times it switches targets, each individual part of belief has its own individual hitbox, and as you will see, they all have their own individual hp and status tracked seperately as well. That takes power.

6:21 Okay, thats gross. Also, the train has been taking damage during the fight.

6:23 Bayonetta smashes some gold armor off of beliefs model.

6:50 after taking a beating, parts of belief are now pretty bloody and messed up. In particular his big creepy cherub face.

7:00 Belief is missing armor, and parts of his sickly pale skin have been ripped off exposing muscle tendons and veins. ANd yeah, there is still a massive city in the background.

7:10 oh noes!

7:27 Belief is pretty messed up now.

7:30 We are now fighting on peices of debris hurtling through the city all crazy upside down and stuff. Oh yeah, we also have an AI controlled partner now.

8:11 almost all of Belief's golden arm and skin has been ripped off him, its just bone muscle tendons and stuff. This is a much, much, MUCH more subtle process than it was in the original bayonetta, which only had perfectly fine, and then switched to skinless models during torture attacks.

As you can see, its a huge improvement over what the ps360 could do.

SPOILER this video shows boyonettas torture and punish attacks from bayonetta 1.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbgTYm_DuM0

8;34 Oh no, half his loin cloth has been ripped off. The horror.

9:00 Its bayonetta's pet Gomorrah! We saw him in the first Boyonetta. Except all we ever got to see of him was his head. He was actually the creature against the black screen everyone thought was just cg in the first trailer. Nobody recognized him because he was just such such a massive improvement over the first gomorrah model.

This one.

bayonetta-20090923081327523-3002694.jpg

Except, he was only shown in cutscene finishers in the first bayonetta, and only his head. Now his full body comes out, is ridiculously better looking, and is a boss fight in real time. Oh yeah, and it takes place in the middle of a massive city and not a tiny little arena. Must be because the ps360 is so much stronger than the wii u.

10:14 and seamless transition between in engine cutscene and realtime gameplay. At this point I want people to realize, that despite finishing several chapters, at no point has a single loading screen popped up.

10:25 Notice how Gomorrah is tearing the building up everywhere he touches?

11:00 Bayonetta punches his head into the building, making a massive hole.

11:30 The sky scrapers around the city break up and are sucked into the portal atop the building you are fighting on.

11:40, that is a massive view of the city.... as Large cgunks of it fly up into the portal.

13:00 going from the tops of the skyscrapers.... to the streets, no cut, no load. Oh and while we are doing it, how are we going to take out a massive demon the 360 could only handle rendering the head of? Why were going to summon ANOTHER bigger meaner one to take it out of course!

Its pretty clear the ps360 just arent capable of whats being shown here. Its just too much for them.

But, anyone think they have a video of a ps360 game that can match this. Please, post it. Lets analyze it.

#189288 Wii U won't be getting Unreal Engine 4

It's like if Sony released a handheld that had the same specs as the 3DS 5 years from now. Nintendo are cheap bastards and that is what is going to kill the Wii U.

#179448 Worry about the Wii U? Read this

Posted by BlueBlur on 05 March 2013 - 11:44 AM

I know some people here are still doubtful for the Wii U's future, so here's something i found on Forbes help cast those doubts aside  ^_^

The Wii U is far from a smash hit, but its lackluster sales have some already saying it’s going to be the system that finally tanks Nintendo. It’s a statement that seems a bit alarmist given how early in its life cycle the console is, though I have to admit to being worried myself at times.

I’ve previously written a list describing the six major challenges that the Wii U is currently facing. Today, I thought I’d play the opposite role and explain why the system, and subsequently Nintendo, shouldn’t be counted out yet.

Here are six reasons that the Wii U will likely not sink Nintendo,

1: Nintendo is Used to Lackluster Launches

We don’t have to look any further than the 3DS to know that Nintendo can have a crappy system launch, but ultimately turn things around. The 3DS debuted to lackluster sales, but a price cut and a slew of new anticipated titles ended up making it a fast-seller. It took some time, but the system has managed to save itself, and the Wii U could do the same.

No, there are no plans for a price cut right now, but it’s only six months or so after launch, and you can hardly fault Nintendo for that. Once they get costs down, hopefully a price cut will be in the equation, as it would do much to help spur sales, especially in the face of the release of pricier consoles down the road.

2: Good Games Will Come

Far and away the greatest problem the Wii U currently faces is the fact that they simply don’t have a good enough stable of games. A 2D Mario title, the collection of minigames that is Nintendoland and 3rd party ports simply aren’t enough to make hardly anyone purchase the system.

But good games are coming. We know a new Zelda title is being developed for the Wii U, as is a new Super Smash Bros, both of which could spark a huge amount of sales on their own. Of the course of its lifecycle, we will likely see new games from nearly all of Nintendo’s beloved franchises, it’s just going to take some time. Once the Wii U manages to assemble a worthwhile collection of games, it could indeed become a must-buy. It would have been nice if it had a few more sought after launch titles, but when the games do finally come, so will additional sales.

3: The System Might Be More Powerful Than We Think

Much fuss has been made about the Wii U being underpowered, with many saying it’s on par with or even below the graphical capabilities of current generation consoles. It’s true that the Wii U is certainly going to be less powerful that the PS4 and next Xbox, but if it’s powerful enough, that’s all that matters.

We need to keep in mind that what a console is capable of at the beginning of its life cycle is very different than what it can put out by the end. Look at an early Xbox 360 launch title like Perfect Dark Zero , and compare it to a game like Gears of War 3 which squeezed every last drop of power out of the system. It’s not fair to judge the Wii U’s power on a couple of ports right now, and the truth is, we don’t actually know what the system will be capable of in the future. And really, the truth is if the games are good enough, graphics shouldn’t matter all that much in the end.

4: It Could Shore Up Third Party Support

When Nintendo debuted the Wii U, they made a big deal about how 3rd party developers were on board for the system, something that isn’t always the case when it comes to Nintendo consoles. They’ve struggled so far to deliver on that promise, but that doesn’t mean hope is lost.

If Nintendo could relax their demands about developing specific gameplay for the Wii U gamepad, I think developers would be a lot more friendly toward them. A few major titles have already skipped a Wii U release because of the extra demands, but if Nintendo worked to rebuild those relationships, they could have a powerhouse on their hands. I’ve always said a Nintendo system that could play all of its beloved first party titles in conjunction with every major 3rd party release would wreck its competition. That may be a challenge to execute, but I believe it’s still possible. We’ll know more once truly “next gen” games start being released, and hopefully Nintendo will do everything in their power to ensure they do indeed come to the Wii U.

5: Pokemon Could be a Gamechanger

I’m keeping the faith that Nintendo is wise enough to eventually release a Pokemon console game. The Wii U is now powerful enough to render the vast open world that the game requires, and I truly believe that a Pokemon console game would be enough to make the Wii U a hit on its own.

Pokemon games have sold over a hundred million copies over the past decade or more, and a console title, if handled correctly, would not just be a smash hit for them, but it would be a system seller. Nintendo so far has refused to develop the game for consoles, perhaps to avoid cannibalizing its mobile sales, perhaps because they’re crazy (like a Starfox), but hopefully they will come around to realize that many fans would love a truly immersive experience with the Pokemon universe on a big screen.

6: Nintendo Has Always Endured

Every time I write about the struggles of the Wii U, I always repeated a phrase. “Don’t count Nintendo out.” People have been predicting that Nintendo would fade away into obscurity for years now. They’ve been saying that people will grow tired of the same franchises being recycled over and over. But they haven’t, and Nintendo has pressed on despite competitors like Atari and Sega falling before them.

They’ve survived relatively lackluster consoles before (the Gamecube, most notably), and if the Wii U turns out to be mediocre when all is said and done, I don’t think it’s the last piece of hardware they’re going to make. Yes, they need to take action to ensure they don’t fade into obscurity in the constantly changing video game landscape, but they have it in them to not only survive, but thrive. It will take a lot of work, but they’ve always been up to the challenge so far, and I believe they’ll continue to do so with the support of so many lifelong fans.

On a scale of Unicorns to Leprechauns how many good is this news?

Posted Image

This many good news.

It has a lot of, A LOT OF, custom stuff just not seen anywhere else. Im hesitant to use the term fixed function right now... But it would explain a lot about why this thing is punching so much higher than its size and power draw should allow from a more conventional design....

And it definately has programmable shader units as well, so it wont fall so easily into fixed function pitfalls....

Basically, take one of the first ground up 360 games, like say, condemned, and now compare it to one of the latest 360 games.

Now look at the gif of X i posted... And imagine the same level of improvement... But only from nintendo games, or joint nintendo/third party games.

Its a thread for the people who live in their mothers basement and jerk of over this carp. Instead of just playing the games for enjoyment they have to sit there and talk about how good the spec's are and why its so "OMFG 13333337 M473"

Protip: Leave the wii u HARDWARE forum, and go to the wii u GAMES forum.

#154550 Does anyone have an idea why the GamePad is region locked?

Posted by 3Dude on 31 December 2012 - 01:48 PM

Because Nintendo desperately wants us to hack all their systems, but they dont want us to know they know we know, they really want us to hack their system.

So they do incredibly stupid/bizarre stuff that pretty much MAKES us have to hack their systems all the while saying oh noes, please dont haxxor our systems!!!

Didn't really need an official statement from Sony to tell me what could've been taken as obvious.

Shame it's selling badly, but with everything they're doing with it, I'm not surprised in the slightest.

#93220 Where did Sony go wrong this generation?

Posted by Hank Hill on 13 July 2012 - 10:00 AM

I'll tell you.

They skipped a generation, resulting in extremely pricey consoles and higher costs to making games, therefore driving their profits down tremendously and throwing several game companies out of business all at the same time.

Did I get that right?

#92818 Wii U CPU confirmed (by respected game producer) As weak.

Posted by Bane on 10 July 2012 - 08:22 AM

*SIGH* you know guys...this isn't rocket science. Just because the clockspeed may be lower, doesn't mean the CPU is going to be weaker than the Cell or Xenon. ANd some of you sound like you think this means that the clock speed is now going to be only like 2 Ghz. As I am sure most of you know, the clockspeeds of the Xenon(360 CPU) and the Cell(PS3 CPU) is 3.2 Ghz. If the Wii U CPU clockspeed really is lower, than its probably 3.0 Ghz, a measly .2 difference. Besides, the CPU will easily make up for it in other areas, such as multithreading. The CPU is either a Tri-Core or Quad-Core Power7 based processor, which can support up to 4 threads per core. However, Nintendo is likely to lower the amount of threads per core. Even then, it will still be better. The 360 and PS3 support 6 threads of code.

Even if the CPU is a Tri-Core, it can do 3 0r 4 threads per core, meaning it can support 9-12 threads. Heck, if Nintendo is using Quad-Core and does 2 threads per core, that is 8 threads, which is still higher than what 360 and PS3 can do. SO with Wii U, you are essentially looking at 8-12 threads of code for Wii U. And its a given that Wii U will have more RAM than 360 and PS3. We are most likely taking 32 MB of eDRAM and 1.5 GB of unified RAM(although .5 will likely be reserved for OS but still.) And the GPU will have a minimum clockspeed of 600 Mhz compared to the 500 Mhz clock of the 360 and the 550 Mhz clock of the PS3, Even Crytek, a dev team who are big on specs, said Wii U is minimum as powerful as the current HD twins. So despite a lower CPU clock, its pretty clear that Wii U still has better hardware than 360 and PS3

Sorry about the first part, but this really iclockspeed thing really isn't a big deal and it certainly doesn't mean the Wii U is weak.
