#77065 Wii U can do crazy insane 3D engines- Tyrone Rodriguez, Nicalis

Posted by Matt on 05 May 2012 - 08:10 AM in Wii U Hardware

Sarcasm doesn't work on the Internet.

There are tons of games that could benefit from technology like this. It's better, more immersive 3D than the 3DS and has a lot more potential. I'm sure there's a reason nobody's used this technology yet, but I expect to see it during the Wii U generation. Failing that, I expect the Google Glasses to do something similar.

#77063 Miyamoto: We Will Introduce New Nintendo Characters Soon

Posted by Matt on 05 May 2012 - 07:58 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Honestly, it's about time they got some new IP going. Here's hoping for a franchise that makes use of the Wii U controller. Like, say, a game with art as a central mechanic? Not only would it use the Wii U to (arguably) its fullest, it would also help players develop a new skill. They'd have to make it fun for non-artists or people who can't draw well, but how cool would it be to see your art skills progress every day, just by playing a game? Protagonist could be an art student or a mage who fights with his paintbrush? Or something?

I'm much more interested in seeing what new characters Nintendo will include. Like, Wii U new. Not Ridley/Geno/other older characters new.

#63183 Valve considering joining console race

Posted by Matt on 23 February 2012 - 11:56 AM in General Gaming

Definitely an interesting idea, but I think the next gen consoles should be good enough on their own.

I, for one, still like the idea of one standardized console format, so there would be no need for cross-platform software.

INTP, architect. I don't think I have to post the additional information, as two people before me had it.

#43413 What games would you like to see make an HD remake or revived on the Wii U

Posted by Matt on 23 November 2011 - 03:51 PM in Wii U Games and Software

If a game gets HD, you may as well rip the .iso and play it on Dolphin (I've been playing 720p Melee for awhile now). HD remakes should never just be upscaled versions of their predecessors; there should always be new content. For example, Star Fox Assault would get controls that don't suck, damage modeling on vehicles, destructible environments, bigger levels, more guns, more vehicles, etc.

So what kind of HD remake do I want? For starters, that Assault thing and maybe a pack of all the console Zelda games in HD since I missed out on all but Twilight Princess due to not being old enough to even play games during the Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker days.

#39430 what you know you will buy

Smash Bros 4 is the only one I'm getting for sure. Then I'll wait and see whatever comes out.

#39411 Your favorite game that no one plays

Posted by Matt on 29 October 2011 - 04:15 PM in General Gaming

Overgrowth. Parkour + fighting, both elements done better than the majority of games that've tried it in the past. Yes, Overgrowth has one of the best combat systems I've ever seen. And the parkour works kinda like Infamous 2's, but seems to flow better--like, it actually feels like parkour, not just madly tapping X to get to the top of a building (that's coming from someone who loved Infamous 2).

#39395 What games would you like to see make an HD remake or revived on the Wii U

Okami seems like a perfect candidate. I can see where rapidly switching between the touch screen for drawing and the buttons for regular gameplay would get annoying, but that's a small concern with an easy fix: a small delay with configurable length between the drawing and the playing, allowing you time to put your stylus away. Or some other creative solution.

Also, I'd like to see an amped up Fire Emblem, but I'm guessing they'll do that anyway without the need for an HD remake.

#39392 Super Smash Bros. 4 - Character Wishlist

Posted by Matt on 29 October 2011 - 03:45 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I'd like any female Fire Emblem character, especially Caeda/Sheeda. I think she's got the most possibilities as a Smash Bros. character out of the recent Fire Emblem lineup. She'd be the first spear fighter, and there's her Pegasus available for a final smash.

I wouldn't mind seeing Phoenix Wright, either. Or Isaac from Golden Sun. I'm thinking Phoenix has a better chance at a spot than Isaac, and I wouldn't end up playing Isaac much anyway (assuming I got my Caeda/Mia/Lyn/etc).

More Phoenix Wright for me. The Wii U controller is perfect for crime scene investigations (though admittedly, those were my least favorite parts of the games).

And, of course, Smash Bros 4.

#26177 If you could make a new game from any 1st Party Franchise what would it be a...

If I had the choice of how the next Fire Emblem would turn out:

-Updated graphics (obviously)
-Improved battles (like, something that actually looks like an intense duel--like, cinematic CG movie-level fights)
-An injury system, where units with less HP would be less effective in battle. Also, some visual depiction of injury would be cool, but this IS Ninty we're talking about, and a T-rated game.
-Voiced dialogue
-The player plays as the strategist for more immersion (doesn't have to be a custom-named character--like, if you assumed the role of Soren in Path of Radience).
-Maybe, MAYBE some sort of active combat. Like, as an option, since FE is essentially a strategy game.

I'd also make a Wii U version of Golden Sun because Golden Sun was amazing.

A Fire Emblem fighter, like SSB, but with Fire Emblem characters since there's a ton of them, maybe slightly different mechanics.

A new Paper Mario/Mario RPG with lots of touch-screeny goodness.

That reminds me: is the screen on the controller pressure-sensitive? If so, then I've got a whole bunch of other ideas that I'll work on if I have any connection with Nintendo of America when I get out of college.

#26019 Known facts

This is a bit late, but to the people who only have 1080i TVs: you can all run 720p, right? My TV runs the entire range, and I find 720p and 1080p to be almost indistinguishable from each other. GTA 4 doesn't even support 1080p on consoles, but yet it looks beautiful on 720p.

Also, I was kinda hoping for backward compatibility with Gamecube controllers for playing SSB4. I suppose I could just go get a Wii classic controller, since I don't really like the nunchuck/Wiimote combination.

I'm interested to see how the higher processing power will benefit old series. Here's hoping for some convincing battle scenes in Fire Emblem. Possibly some ragdoll or Euphoria engine deaths? Yes, please.

#26015 E3 2012... im a little worries.

Posted by Matt on 04 September 2011 - 07:47 PM in Wii U Hardware

How much more powerful can a gaming console get while still being practical to play and develop for? In my opinion, until someone figures out how to make point-cloud graphics work well with games, we're pretty much set on graphics. The more polygons in a model, the more time and money it takes to develop. Skyrim looks amazing, but ultimately, isn't it running on hardware from half a decade ago? You really have to look hard to notice the difference in graphics between games from 2007 and games from 2011, even on the PC.

So, no, Nintendo's not gonna get the console one-up. It's gonna come down to games in 2012 at the rate we're going now.

There's one character I want more than any for SSB4:

Caeda.

She seems to be set up perfectly for a Smash Bros game. She's got a spear, so her fighting style would be unique to the rest--we wouldn't be getting just another Fire Emblem sword fighter (though I wouldn't object to Mia or Lyn getting spots). Also, her Pegasus could be a great final smash. Like, she breaks the smash ball, then upon activation her Pegasus swoops down. She hops on and charges across the course, sort of like Marth does now, maybe with control of when to hit with her spear for extra damage. Probably a short-time smash.

It definitely doesn't hurt that all the Fire Emblem girls are beautiful.

I can see an amped-up Euphoria engine being used for the bodies in stamina mode. Not likely, but I thought I'd throw that out there.
