#317522 New Nintendo controller patent

Posted by Hunter on 12 December 2015 - 02:37 PM in General Gaming

I said it once, twice, thrice, etc and I'll say it again: Nintendo needs to focus on the lowest price they can pull off without compromising the experience. Games like Windwaker, Splatoon, etc prove that the Wii U as-is can push out really awesome graphics; and the older Wii proves that Nintendo can dominate by acting as a "secondary" console that people purchase alongside their Xbox or Playstation, or even as a entry console to the current generation.

but the wii wasn't successful as a "secondary" console, it was successful because they tapped into a new market, a market which has since moved to smartphones

making a console the same as xbox and ps4 is going to flop, they need something which will get those people (or non gamers again) to buy the console

#317350 Thoughts on Linkle

Posted by Hunter on 27 November 2015 - 02:27 AM in General Gaming

A game with both of them would be interesting but seems like a considerably more difficult concept to pull off so I'm not so sure they'd go that route.

Well why is Link male in LoZ games when it doesn't affect the gameplay or plot? Why not just say he's gender neutral or gender fluid elf-kin? Gender is very rarely a decision that affects gameplay and story, it's purely a design choice that the developers are free to make and that doesn't make it a novelty just because it's different. I mean, if Link being male was never a novelty then why is it suddenly a novelty when Link is a female?

I haven't played Skyward Sword which I hear there is a bit more characterisation given to Link but other than that I don't recall Link having much of a personality and since Link isn't the same character in each game the character from one game doesn't even make a difference to a new Link. So since Link doesn't have much of a character I'm not so sure that a female Link would be so different other than appearance, furthermore what difference is there really to a female Link and Linkle? Since Link changes from game to game so can the character of Linkle.

I wouldn't even say that a game with Linkle as the protagonist where she doesn't have a sword would ruin the game, definitely different but I can't see how that alone could ruin it.

Well what would changing the gender of Link achieve? He has always been male so why change him to female? This is why it comes across as nothing more than a novelty. Giving an option is different though because more choices are always better than less choices.

The difference between a female Link and Linkle is that they seem to be two separate characters.

Also Linkle with no sword would be dumb, are we gonna have the Master Crossbow?

A main-series Zelda game with Link and Linkle would be cool. You can switch between them whenever you want and have co op too.

Oh no no no, shoehorning Link's gender into the plot sounds like the most annoying thing the devs could do. It's going to affect the pacing of the story and it's going to be constantly reminding everyone else that Link's no longer a guy and that's weird. It's not worth it when the simple solution of just ignoring Link's gender is going to make everyone happier.

Personally, I'd rather they go with one or the other instead of turning Link's gender into a player choice. It gives them much more freedom to characterize the new Link.

Why does Linkle's gender need to be a big part of the plot when Link's gender never has been?

Giving people the option to choose will keep people happy but the devs should be free to make Linkle the protagonist of a game without people thinking it's somehow going to ruin the game.

They'll probably just insist that Linkle and Link are both trans until everyone accepts it and if you deny it you're a bigot.

If it isn't a part of the gameplay or plot then what's the point? It won't bring anything new to the game and is nothing more than a novelty. I think a male/female option is best for everyone since Link has always been intended as an extension of the player (although he has become more characterised in recent years). Let me be clear that I am talking more about a female version of Link and not Linkle, Linkle looks like she will have her own character traits and is not just a female Link.

If they want to make a game with Linkle then so be it, I don't think it will ruin the game unless you didn't get to use a sword.

#317330 Thoughts on Linkle

Posted by Hunter on 25 November 2015 - 03:03 AM in General Gaming

Linkle being the protagonist of a mainline Zelda =/= Linkle being Link.

Either way, Link as a character is not defined by his gender, so I don't know what your problem is here. It's not the same situation as in, say, Mario suddenly turning into a woman, because Mario in every game is the same entity while most Zelda games have a different Link.

Yeah but turning Link into a girl really is just for the sake of it unless it is a big part of the plot.

However, give people an option to choose. I don't want to be forced to play as a female Link but I'm sure some people out there would like it if they didn't have to play as a male link.

I've had it since launch and it's been a great three years. Best console since the PS2 imo.

#317189 The Truth About Zelda Wii U

Posted by Hunter on 09 November 2015 - 05:40 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Found this interesting video that analyses all the current information we have on Zelda Wii U along with some speculation.

What do you think? Dual release with NX? Or are Nintendo just being Nintendo and keeping everything secret in a poor attempt at building hype?

#317188 What games would make the NX launch successful?

Posted by Hunter on 09 November 2015 - 04:58 AM in General Gaming

Maybe they'll do a Twilight Princess and release it on Wii U and NX.

That would still mean Wii U was the only home console that didn't have an exclusive Zelda title. Nintendo like their traditions, they are japanese after all.

#317184 What games would make the NX launch successful?

Posted by Hunter on 09 November 2015 - 12:09 AM in General Gaming

Soul Calibur 6

Sonic Adventure 3

Virtua Fighter 6

House of the Dead 5

NFL 2k17

Power Stone 3

Skies of Arcadia 2

Sega Rally Championships

Super Mario Next

Madden

NBA

Waverace

Burnout Reboot

Metroid Prime 4

There the greatest launch since Dreamcast.

maybe for sega fanboys like you!

People keep saying Zelda will end up on NX but I don't think it will. Although a Zelda at launch would be beneficial.

#317170 What games would make the NX launch successful?

Posted by Hunter on 08 November 2015 - 02:05 PM in General Gaming

Obviously Nintendo needs to actually market this console and make sure people are aware it exists, but what games do you think would help the NX be successful at launch?

A real 3D mario (64, sunshine etc.)- since we haven't had one on Wii U

A new IP on the same level of quality as Splatoon

Animal Crossing- I am not a huge fan of this series but it is very popular

#317165 Is a PS4 worth it?

Posted by Hunter on 08 November 2015 - 06:02 AM in General Gaming

What do you think? I've been thinking of getting one but I feel like it's just because I want to play Battlefront and Arkham Knight and not much else. Maybe it would be worth it in the long run? I dunno. I'm just pretty bored with my wii u since there isn't anything else coming out this year.

The guy in GAME was trying to persuade me to buy one but most of what he said was just hype and he kept telling me how amazing fallout is. When I came home i looked up some gameplay of fallout and it just looks like a very bland rpg.

#316949 Starfox pushed to 2016

Posted by Hunter on 21 September 2015 - 09:51 AM in Wii U Games and Software

If your not interested in XCX then there is something wrong with you son. So this drought is on you.

I had no interest in Mario Maker but not blaming Nintendo for a September drought.

that's dumb, just because i don't enjoy jrpgs that means there is something wrong with me?

jrpgs aren't for everyone, xenoblade is a niche title for a niche audience and nintendo aren't really offering any alternatives for the majority of wii u owners. Starfox wasn't much, but with good marketing it could have been Nintendo's big holiday title.

You're allowed to criticise nintendo, they have messed up by having very few games scheduled for the rest of the year. They have no third party support so that makes it even more noticeable than when sony or microsoft delay games.

#316935 Starfox pushed to 2016

Posted by Hunter on 19 September 2015 - 09:07 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Wii U in 2015 still has

Yoshi

Mario Tennis

Shovel Knight Physical

Gianna Sisters Physical

Fatal Frame

Animal Crossing

Devils Third

Rodea Sky Soldiers

Skylanders

Lego Dimensions

Fast Racing Neo

Xenoblade Chronicles X

XCX man that game that is a game that will make me disappear a few months going to take all my time man. This is the game that made me get a Wii U in 2013 so it's already a system seller. Sold me one.

if you're not interested in xenoblade (like myself and probably the majority of Wii U owners in the west) then there really is nothing new to play on wii u for the rest of the year. Devil's Third and Yoshi are already out here in Europe and the rest of what you mentioned isn't very interesting (or is a physical re-release of indie games) apart from maybe fast racing neo. I mean Star Fox wasn't a title that really excited me but i was all ready to get excited about it because there wasn't really anything else.

I know that nintendo only delays titles to make sure the games are amazing, but when third party games are pretty much nonexistent on your console you need to make sure things are done on time by working efficiently/hiring more people etc. Of course a lot of nintendo's dev teams will be working on NX titles but this isn't really an excuse because the NX hasn't even been revealed yet.

To me, this is going to be like the drought of 2013 again. This could even last until spring next year since jan/feb are usually pretty quiet for new releases.

nintendo's holiday lineup is extremely poor now

it was already a pretty bad lineup because there is no big mainstream title that will sell consoles but now it's bad for the hardcore nintendo fans too

I think a lot of people got confused as to what they were meant to do. I used the bob ombs to break the stone, picked up the spring, got the star and ran through the plants with the star, then I sat the spring down and jumped up to the bowser jr fight before my star had run out and used the star to kill him in one hit. I don't know if this was how you were meant to do the level, as there was that path with the goombas below the pirahna plants, but I did it that way and it worked :P

yeah that is the easiest route i think

the path with the goombas is also a way of completing it, it takes you to an area where you get yoshi but i think it is slightly more challenging

Nice levels guys.

I would really, really appreciate it if you'd check out some of my levels. I created a very difficult level (took me at least 50 tries, finetuning and all.) I would like to apologize for an unfair death after the first blue platform, but all the other parts are fun tricky jumps. I spent a lot of time on it, but no one really seems to play it. I also have some fun medium-challenges.

The code is 70EB-0000-0038-2840. Good luck guys.

So guys over 120 ppl have tried and no one has beaten it. I really don't think it's impossible. Who's gonna step up and be the first to beat it?

Also, I'm following everyone who posts in this thread.

these are the two most challenging levels i've played, i really want to beat them both but i get so frustrated

#316916 Super Mario Maker: Course Sharing Thread

Posted by Hunter on 17 September 2015 - 06:37 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I take pride in being the only person who has finished this level. Only took me 6 tries :P

You should take pride in being the only one who kept trying until they completed it, it was pretty tough!

one thing i have noticed about Mario Maker is that a lot of people don't want challenging levels (ok fair enough maybe my one was too hard), it seems to me that more people are interested in novelty levels like "don't touch anything" or "just run" kind of levels. These levels totally dominate the most popular levels section and while they are quite cool, they are a novelty and you would never play them again.

I dunno if anyone else has any thoughts on this, I'm just having a rant really. I guess these are just the sort of gamers we have now.

#316815 Mario and Luigi characters in Mario Kart?

Posted by Hunter on 05 September 2015 - 02:55 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Meh i don't really think there's any point in adding small obscure characters. The next mario kart will most likely be "nintendo kart" (although it will still be called Mario kart obviously). So what we should really be asking is what other nintendo characters would we want to see in MK9?
