And if you already have a last-gen version of the hit construction adventure game, the new-gen upgrade will cost only $5.

For those who don't own the preceding console ports, the full cost of PS4 and Xbox OneMinecraft will be $20. The new-gen versions will support bigger worlds and save transfers but there are instances where these features won't work. Here's the full rundown from developerMojang, with added emphasis on important differences:

For Xbox One:
  • Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will be released on Xbox Live Marketplace in August. It brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Xbox 360 Edition.
  • It will include all the features from the most recent Xbox 360 title update.
  • Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will cost $19.99.
  • If you've bought Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition from Xbox Live Marketplace, or played online with the disc version, you will be able to upgrade to Xbox One Edition for $4.99.
  • You will be able to upgrade for a minimum of a year after the release date.
  • Players with Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition saves will be able to import their worlds to Xbox One. Unfortunately, you won't be able to transfer saves from Xbox One to Xbox 360. We can make worlds bigger without too much stress, but shrinking them causes all kinds of problems.
  • Cross platform play will not be possible between Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
  • Many, but not all, of the DLC skins and texture packs you've purchased for Xbox 360 Edition will be available for use in Xbox One Edition. We'd like to say all your DLC would transfer, but some of the items are trapped in licensing deals that are too boring to get into here. We'll have more on this soon.
For PS3 and Vita:
  • Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will be available on the PSN in August.
  • It will include all the features from the most recent Playstation 3 version, including online play on Vita.
  • If you've bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition from PSN you'll be able to upgrade for free.
  • We are working closely with Sony Computer Entertainment to look into ways to enable upgrade from the Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition to Minecraft: Playstation 3 and Vita. We'll have more info on this closer to release.
  • This means everyone who has bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition from PSN will get it on Vita for free. Those fluent in Sony-speak might refer to the deal as "Cross-buy."
  • Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will cost $19.99.
  • It doesn't matter if you buy for PS3 or Vita first, you own the game for both platforms.
  • Saves are transferrable between the Playstation 3 and Vita versions of Minecraft. You will be able to craft at home on your Playstation 3, then continue on the bus/toilet with your Playstation Vita.
  • All of the DLC you've purchased for Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition will work on Playstation 3 + Vita Edition.
For PS4:
  • Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will be released on the PSN in August. It brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Playstation 3 + Vita Edition.
  • It will include all the features from the most recent Playstation 3 version.
  • Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will cost $19.99.
  • If you've bought Playstation 3 Edition from the Playstation Network you will be able to upgrade for $4.99.
  • You will be able to upgrade for a minimum of a year after the release date.
  • We are working closely with Sony Computer Entertainment to look into ways to enable upgrade from the Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition to Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition. We'll have more info on this closer to release.
  • Players with Playstation 3 Edition or Playstation 3 + Vita Edition saves will be able to import their worlds to Playstation 4. Unfortunately, you won't be able to transfer your saves from Playstation 4 to Playstation 3/Vita. There are technical reasons for this; we can make worlds bigger without too much stress, but shrinking them causes all kinds of problems.
  • Cross-platform play will not be possible between Playstation 3 + Vita Edition and Playstation 4 Edition.
  • Many, but not all, of the DLC skins and texture packs you've purchased for Playstation 3 Edition will be available for use in Playstation 4 Edition. We'd like to say all your DLC would transfer but some of the items are trapped in licensing deals that are too boring to get into here. We'll have more on this soon.

tl;dr: Owners of the Xbox 360 version can get the Xbox One version for $4.99. Most DLCs are transferable from 360 to One with the exception of some licensed DLC packs. Save files are transferable from 360 to One but not One to 360.

Owners of the PS3 version get the Vita version for free and can get the PS4 version for $4.99. Most DLCs are transferable from PS3 to PS4 with the exception of some licensed DLC packs, ALL DLC packs from the PS3 version will work on the Vita version. Save files are transferable from the PS3 to Vita to PS4 but not PS4 to Vita/PS3.

Nice for vita owners. Although I would absolutely stream from ps4, as its bound to be a version closer to pc, and the small lag wouldnt bother me at all.

Honestly, I would LOVE to have this on my gamepad. Well, very soon I WILL have it on my gamepad... Streamed from my pc...

But what Im saying is, why is a game, of which 80% of the music/art/level creations are fan homages to nintendo games... Only not available on the nintendo console?

NoA whats up with this?

Still wish it would go on Steam, but that won't happen.

Basically, Notch says "not now, maybe later, we're busy with the other versions we're taking care of"

But y'know, there would be absolutely no reason to bring it to Wii U. The gamepad totally wouldn't open up new opportunities... /sarcasm

Even completely ignoring the gamepad...

The nintendo exclusive content possibilities could have been amaziballs. From music, to sound effects, to items, to biomes, texture packs, enemies....

As always, its the players who really miss out.

I don't think he's said "no absolutely never" on the matter of bringing it to the Wii U (Dunno how a 3DS version would play in terms of FPS/world size, but it wooould be neat for Minecraft 3D) it's just that they're already creating/bug testing/optimizing Minecraft for the XBO, PS4, Vita, and I think PS3 around the time that IGN article above came out.

I'd be more surprised if they didn't, honestly. Not like they don't have money to burn. :L

Oh, I know a small team like mojang has their hands full. Im laying this out at the feet of Nintendo.

Easily. But im certainly with you on the notion nintendp failed spectacularly to strike while the iron was hot on this one.

I am so happy with the 1st party and Indie line up the Wii U has as that will easily satisfy me.... But I think Nintendo needs to pull off a big OUT OF FUC&ING NOWHERE 3rd party support that no one think would happen at E3 (I am talking GTA level AAA game which has never graced one of their HOME console). I mean it is pretty silly right now.

lol GTA on WiiU. Be a waste even if it sold well. Most AAA stuff is trash now days anyway. Can keep GTA. Would not mind Saints Row V tho. Would not sell at all however. Have a better chance selling an Air Conditioner to a Eskimo. I like how they are working with PG with Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 which is the big HOLY **** moment and people still not over it. Nintendo and Sony have a close relationship right now with Tecmo Koei. Nintendo published Razers Edge. getting Hyrule Warriors. Another WTF moment. Even tho it was Wii Nintendo published Samurai Warriors 3 in the US.  Nintendo pulled shin megami tensei x fire emblem another big WTF. So 84 they do but stop asking for GTA crap. If you want GTA and over budget western stuff then go Sony and Xbox. They bring new stuff to the table all the time. Just because it's not what you want does not mean it does not count. Tekken Tag 2 has Tekken ball in it and only on WiiU. Tekken fans were FURIOUS the mode returned but only on a Nintendo system. No matter what big AAA 3rd party franchise they would pull people would bash Nintendo and ignore it. Meaning not buy it.
