I think this is a really good explanation to the games names and the look of the pokemon! I cant wait to see if a third pokemon legendary proves their guess. What do you think?
This Nerdy Explanation for Pokémon X/Y Might Blow Your Mind [Update]

Posted Image Brian Ashcraft
Posted ImageAt first look, the titles for the new Pokémon, Pocket Monsters X and Pocket Monsters Y, sound like its creators are out of ideas. They sound like a joke—no wonder why they were perhaps suggested as such in 2008. But dig a little deeper (way deeper!), and things get interesting.
What if X and Y referred to biology? This could be a stretch by excited fans, sure, but as noted on Tumblr site Turnip's Tumbles, the new legendary Pokémon could explain the titles:

Xerneas and Yveltal look very organic.
Xerneas represents a Neuron, Yveltal represents Muscles and Blood.
That means 2 of the 3 germ layers are covered.
Almost all animals develop out of 3 layers.
The third missing layer is the Endoderm.
The third legendary will represent the Endoderm.

This is some seriously deep and geeky theorizing, which is nothing new to Pokémon games (remember that Ground Zero theory in Pokémon Black/White?). This latest theory also makes sense! Have a look at this image (click for full size):Posted Image Kotaku is following up with Nintendo and will update this post should the company comment.
Update: J.C. Smith, director of Consumer Marketing, The Pokémon Company International told Kotaku, "The theory is fascinating and well thought out! I'm just as curious to know as you are. The origin of the title names for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y is something GAME FREAK may answer down the road. I can say that the names help unify the experience internationally because they're the same worldwide, which is great considering Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be the first Pokémon titles to launch simultaneously around the world."-http://kotaku.com/5975396/this-nerdy-explanation-for-pokmon-xy-might-blow-your-mind

Wow, that's pretty interesting. I thought it would be X, Y, and Z because those are the variables for length, height, and depth. In a coordinate plane, Y is up which explains why Y can fly. X is across so that's why X covers some ground. I think Z will be a water dragon because it will match the shape of the Z. Also, since Z is depth it will live in the 'depths' of the ocean! Ahh yeah.

This certainly is interesting... But I would prefer a DNA theme. Take a look at the Japanese logos for evidence on that.

Surley though they'd all have to be released at the same time, because they are 3D

I thought it was chromosomes and that Yveltal was male and Xerneas was female hence the X and Y chromosomes. The third game could be Z which is a hidden chromosome that represents the unknown gender that most legendaries have.

I have seen this and it is very interesting. There is also the third one being something that is a snake but I was thinking underwater since that is the only place the other two havent covered. Land, air, and sea?

A lot of the theories mentioned in this thread seem more likely than the one in the OP...

Edited by CUD, 27 January 2013 - 06:04 PM.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

Another Idea is that X, Y, and Z are axis and Z is the 3rd dimension axis so that makes sense since it is on the 3DS..

Did you guys think that maybe all of these theories are true???

There could be the DNA theme, this theory, the coordinate plane (X, Y, Z), and etc..

The name works in so many levels!!!!! maybe its not as stupid as I originally thought. Hears to hopefully the most revolutionary pokemon game since the original!!
